because it is.
I thought fans didn't like her being a prostitute, but yeah, her new origin is quite bad

Scarecrow_King said:There was no prostitution involved. Basically she was a street orphan that got recruited into some seemingly altruistic corporate program that gave street kids jobs, which turned out to be not so altruistic. She did something to piss them off (I think it was looking through their computer files? It wasn't very clear), which led them to chuck her off a roof. Then yeah, she was licked back to life by cats

I'm so glad I stopped caring about Tim a few years ago.
...I could see them doing that. Just so people have to 'accept' the new origin.Unless or course they do a 3 year long character arc that ties into his origins heavily so you pretty much can't ignore it.![]()
I don't even remember that origin from the cartoon, but I agree, it sounds like the best one I've heard. I wasn't really a fan of her originally being a prostitute either, in part because it came from Frank Miller and every woman is a prostitute to him.B:TAS had the best version of her. Rich socialite that seemed to be doing it just for the hell of it. They never gave a full backstory for her, which I thought was great.
I'm glad that this title hasn't gone to **** like all of the other "New 52" books.
The twist worked for something that's always had ties to Gotham, to take it back even deeper. The twist would have worked better had Kyle Higgins put any bit of foreshadowing into his Nightwing run for some title synergy, but considering Snyder still writes a better Grayson than Higgins could ever hope to achieve, maybe it's for the better. So I just caught myself on Volume One of The Court of Owls.
- Could have done without the "twist" of Haly's Circus being relatively sinister.... but I liked the effect of it -- so I'll go with it.
Yes, yes, and I believe yes. They're all pieces from the most recent years of storyline (see below) and so are included within the realm of the reboot. At the very least, as you identified, Pyg is there. Snyder also uses Tiger Shark in #12, who was a villain Dick fought as Batman in Snyder's Detective Comics run. I don't know if they've been stated outright - with the exception of Barbara's crippling, which has been, and is a point of her title - but I believe they've been intimated. To that end...I need to ask:
Was Dick ever Batman? (Snyder just cites him as "Former Robin, Current Nightwing," not "Former Batman). Is Grant Morrison's run of Dick as Batman negated? Professor Pyg shows up, so some of it is in, but was Pyg a villain while Dick was Batman in this new time line?
Barbara was still crippled for a time and was Oracle, right? (Still pissed that that was retconed)
Did Bruce Wayne die (or was he Omega Sanctioned...) in this timeline?
These I'm not sure about. For whatever reasons, I don't think any of them have been referenced. We've seen nor heard anything about Bane, or anything about Azrael in the new timeline - nothing about Gordon being shot by Catwoman - nothing about Two-Face or Calendar Man - nothing about Cassandra.Did Bane ever break Batman's back?
Was Gordon ever shot by Catwoman?
Did The Long Halloween take place? This is basically "Year 5." So Two-Face will have been active for 3 years now, right? Or are they going to retell that origin?
Does Cassandra Caine even exist?
I'm not sure here. I believe other posters spoke to an editing discrepancy between two of the zero issuesWhen was Damian even conceived/raised? He's what? 11-12 and Batman's only been active 5 years? Did Bruce meet Talia and Ra's before he was Batman? Perhaps in his years training, taking influence from Batman Begins?
Except that was the point - that was the entire point of The New 52. They wanted a clean slate for the majority of their franchises. In the case of Batman and Green Lantern, I believe, the assumption was that the past few years of storytelling had been so strong - and, really, the obvious point is they didn't want to offend Grant Morrison or Geoff Johns (not to mention the latter's executive position now), and possibly Scott Snyder - they would still be included within the new timeline, but most other characters would be reset. They really messed up with this continuity overhaul. There are certainly ways to simplify it better, without having to erase some of the best and most classic stories from continuity.
