Don't see what people see so wrong about Snyder, his Black Mirror storyline was slow as hell, yet it was very well praised by fans, now the story's having a good pace and you complain that it's boring

His story is constantly keeping me on the endge of my seat. Can't say the same for the rest of the Batman titles.

I thought his Black Mirror arc was fantasic and the pace was fine. The fact that it was broken up into 3 issue mini arcs within a bigger narrative helped it very much.

With Court of Owls, Snyder undermined his own secret society of villains and his compelling narrative by abruptly turning it into a cliche ridden revenge scheme. Not only that, it felt two issues two long. 7 & 8 were nothing but a big fight sequence with cannon fodder Owls. And issue 11 was overly verbose. By the time it ended, it was exhausting and disappointing.

His Joker arc is nothing we really haven't seen either, atleats so far. As some have pointed out, the dialogue really sucks. And while some of the ideas presented in the story are cool, I just find it funny that Batman's always so damn shocked by the Joker's actions every time he pops up. The Joker's back(again). He's worse than ever(again). Batman doubts he can stop him(again). I just don't find myself as engaged as I was by what I'm reading. Given that, I have no interest in reading a 9 issue Riddler story.

And for the record, Dark Knight kicks ass.

Sure, Grant Morrison was kicking ass on B&R, but Tony Daniel was sucking on Batman, Detective was bouncing around between David Hine and other no name writers who wrote entirely forgettable stories, Batman Confidential was a waste of paper, and Streets of Gotham was mediocre at best.

But there was variety and cohesion,Dick had 3 books so did Bruce. Now Bruce has 5 books while Dick has 1,and that change was abrupt.

Variety is the key to me,I could read those books without worrying about the existence of Cass or Steph and a nonsensical timeline, and like I said hand it to Daniel and Hine atleast they were trying to do something new.

Now we have the same dull, dark stories about Batman's adventures in Gotham and the books constantly needing crossovers to sustain themselves.

Streets of Gotham was far from perfect but that 3 issue story involving Damian and Colin beats the hell out of Batman in Crane's basement.

To think that variety has anything to do with quality is an inherently illogical and foolish concept, IMO.

You seem like someone who's more concerned about books catering to your personal preferences and desires than the actual quality of the writing and art.

Because of capullo

Capullo helps a lot.

I just dig Snyder's sense of Gotham, really. Black Mirror was sort of this great thesis of what Gotham is as an entity and he's been expanding on it in the new series. I get that there's a lot of hate for the book, and the people on this board who don't like Snyder are mostly even handed and fair about why, but I just can't wrap my head around it. Can't wait for issue 16.

No it really is not as foolish as you think, take a look at Pre reboot Batgirl and current Batgirl.

I can set aside my personal preferences while judging the quality of something, but TDK is painfully mediocre no matter how you cut it.
It's the same bland Scarecrow story that I read years ago,Crane hasn't improved his game,he hasn't come up with new toxins,he has not done anything new aside from stitching his face(no meaning or theme behind this) just shock factor like Snyder's Joker.
Generic story where Batman ends up getting gassed, hallucinates about his horrors and then shows of his "escape artistry".

I actually enjoyed a bulk of David Hine's 'tec stories. Then again I find Arkham Asylum and it's players interesting and I like psychological thrillers. Tony Daniel's Batman I read 2 issues of and never looked at again. I also liked the early Streets of Gotham arcs.

TDK I was giving a trial run to with this arc and decided to keep buying it as of this past issue. Before that issue the story was off to a shaky start and no better than what we saw back in 2010.

I still can't get over the sewn lips. It was too much for too much's sake. The insanity of Batman putting a grapple line through Crane's lower jaw and Crane still surviving that without a hitch made me lol. But I'll keep reading because again last issue picked up the pace and entertained overall.

Layman's 'tec I'm really enjoying. I'm curious about this Emperor Penguin character and how Cobblepot will respond to him in the long run. I am regularly buying more Bruce as Batman books now than I was in 2010 so I would have to say I prefer the books today.

Not at all. That's purely an issue of quality. Put a better writer on Batgirl, and it can be creatively successful.

That's hardly the point, though.

The point is that even if the current TDK is little more than a retred (but a well-written one, I'd argue), even being mediocre, it's still better than Daniel's downright awful stories (which were also quite uninspired and trite, btw), the terrible Confidential title, etc.

That's my point. We don't currently have a single bad title staring Batman. But we had multiple bad titles in 2010, and 2008, and 2006.

I agree

Besides Batman.....

Yeah, I misspoke there. :o

I'm of a completely different opinion where I feel that Batman is by far the best title out of the Bat titles. I feel like Snyder is doing an awesome job with the character and I loved his stories. Really, the only criticism I have of his titles are generally little things (like Batman hanging onto an airplane in issue 11) and I've really, really enjoyed everything else. I feel like ish 15 was just a little slower than the first two issues of this story arc, but that's because it's setting up for issues 16 and 17 where the **** will go down.

The other Bat titles have been hit or miss for me. Batman and Robin started great but sizzled out pretty quickly. I was especially bummed by the Terminus/War of the Robins arc, which seemed like it had a lot of potential (especially the War of the Robins part). Ish 15 was pretty awesome this week, but it had many of the a big fault that you guys have with Snyder's Batman: A lot of dialogue in which the characters spell out every single detail to the reader. Still loved the issue though. Batgirl has been meh pretty much throughout. Not bad, not good, just there. Detective Comics was really bad until Layman came on and now it's very good, just not as good or interesting as what Snyder's doing, in my opinion. I've only read the Scarecrow story from The Dark Knight because of recommendations from people in this thread, but I feel like its been a pretty bland story. And Batman, Inc. has been hit or miss for me, too. Some issues have been pretty boring, but others, like Batman, Inc. #5 have been ridiculously awesome. I love where this series is heading now, though, and it seems to be picking up fast.

I mean, I can see where a lot of you guys are coming from and I definitely don't think your opinions are invalid, but I just don't feel the same way at all. I feel like Snyder's run has been an instant classic for the character. The Black Mirror was a great detective procedural that was broken down into very interesting smaller arcs that led to a great finale. Not mention Jock's amazing art that perfectly fit the tone of the story. His Batman run has definitely changed up his style from his Detective run to make the stories to be more blockbuster-type stories, but I don't think his work has suffered from it, it's just great in a different ways. I felt that Court of Owls was an awesome idea that Snyder executed awesomely. I absolutely love how he's made the city of Gotham almost like a character in his run. Batman #5 is one of my favorite issues of Batman ever... Just a flawless issue, in my opinion. While the second half of the arc obviously got more action oriented and was admittedly, not as great as the first half, I still feel that it was absolutely fantastic. And his Joker run has been great thus far, too, to the point where I have a tough time seeing people hating it. Like, I can understand if you don't like it or not interested in it because it's not your cup of tea, but I don't get the hate. I feel like its doing a great job of exploring the relationship between Batman and Joker and presents a really interesting concept in which the Joker might actually be right about. Plus, it all seems to be building up to an awesome climax in #16 and #17. Also, I'd be an ass if I didn't say Capullo's art didn't add to Snyder's writing. I feel like Capullo and Snyder play perfectly off of each other and compliment each other very well.

So like I said, I'm definitely loving everything about Snyder's run so far and hopefully he won't let me down anytime soon. I can't wait to see how he ends this Joker story and I'm excited to see how he handles the cerebral Riddler that was presented in the backup to #15. Maybe that'll be a less action movie-y arc. But yeah, I think it's a case of different strokes for different folks.

We don't hate snyder. We just think his work on Batman is boring.

I dig it. Detective Comics has been boring the hell out of me and The Dark Knight is good but good lord this Scarecrow arc has been going on ****ing forever. It's a good Scarecrow story and damn creepy which I like but every time I get a new issue I'm like "****! This Scarecrow story is still going on?!?!?" I guess because it doesn't seem to be tying in with any other Bat titles at all right now I keep forgetting about it or something, I dunno. I dig Batman, Batman Inc, Batman and Robin and Batgirl. The War of The Robins story should have last longer no doubt, that arc was getting pretty damn awesome. I actually dig Batgirl too ive only been on for 3 issues now but i dig what has happened so far plus, the art in Batgirl is great especially imo

The latest Batman & Robin issue was great. Loved how Joker was playing with his face - visually interesting stuff, haha.

I'm not fond of batgirl, but I agree about the art, it's really good.

higgins does a decent joker

he doesn't talk too much and he actually makes jokes

I'm behind on my Nightwing issues, because while I love the character, Higgins is a terrible writer.
