The Dark Knight Official Critics Reviews of TDK

Its no surprise its coming from WB/DC. Theyve really stepped up their game after Catwoman imo. This was inevitable.

I think is worth mentioning it might be easier to turn Batman into a great quality movie than other characters. In my possibly very biased view, there's no richer or stronger source material in the super hero world.

That's the thing that gets lost on some people.

Batman isn't a fantastical, superpowered hero. He deals with crime lords, serial killers, cops. Those are far more tangible elements to most filmgoers than, say, scientists with mechanical arms or weapons-enhanced gliders.

This is not to say you can't make those things tangible (because they certainly were made so in their respective films), but it's much easier as Merkel said to tell a cinematic story with Batman's world.

It is true that Batmans world is much more able to be adapted into a very down to earth character piece, but DC/WB have this attitude recently with all of their movies released since the disastrous Catwoman: dont settle for popcorn value, make a FILM, and that is one of the reasons new school batman has been interpreted so innovatively and brilliantly.

DC/WB = tour de force.

Any movie where the character has powers that no average human has will be viewed as campy by someone. That's just how we are. Because they're doing stuff that's not normal. The trick is making it relatable.

TDK just owned spidey 3 in the opening day dept, with 66mill. Is this finally the time where our hero is the king of the world, and we get to bask in its glory, god im so happy.

And since WALL-E got 96%, that means WALL-E pwns Batman!!

yes, I realize the RT scores of those two very different movies have no bearing on each other - I just wanted to raise a few Batfans' blood pressure. :oldrazz:

Sure pal, just dont look at the box-office between the two!:woot::o

The thing with the Oscar talk is that if a genre film comes along that seemingly transcends it's roots they (the Academy) have a history of embracing these films.

A horror film winning best picture seemed unlikely for decades until THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (one of the, to this day, rare films in the genre that appealed to MOST people). Likewise fantasy got a short shrift until the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy came into play and at the start of the year 2000 who would've thought a martial arts movie would see a best pic nom ever? Yet CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON got there.

It may seem unlikely but with the last 2 years (THE DEPARTED, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN) with them embracing films that quite frankly in the DRIVING MISS DAISY days would never have got a look in THE DARK KNIGHT getting into contention for the top award is possible.

Good comparisons, people seem to forget that occasionally films come along that take their genre to a new level and are generally rewarded for it.

As well as Best pic noms for STAR WARS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, ET,BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE FUGITIVE(an action movie that was praised at a time when action movies generally....weren't:woot:), THE SIXTH SENSE etc.

If anything TDK (having seen it) stands as the best justification (and imo goodness knows there have been many during this decade) for hiring character AND mood driven directors and writers to do action movies.

I'm not into fanboy hyperbole at all, but I can honestly say this film deserves nods for Picture, Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography, and a certified win for Ledger.

There's no friggin' way anyone can tell me this doesn't deserve consideration. No....friggin'....way.

I'm inclined to agree, but I think it's just too early in the year to say. It's definitely in the running for the short list, though.

okay so
wall e had roughly 210 reviews

so Im guessing this will have at most 5-10 more than wall E so in the next week

so theres roughly 10-20 reviews left am I right?

I know it can go up to 240
but theyve recently been capping around 210ish

It was good. I disliked the Joker's look, but Two-Faces look made up for that.
