Dark of the Moon OFFICIAL Dark of the Moon REVIEW THREAD

I just got home from the 1201am EST showing.

It was definitely better than Revenge of the Fallen.

Michael Bay still sucks at making you care about the characters, but I did like how Sam was more "take charge" and actually demanded respect due to his past exploits in saving the world. Bubblebee is probably the only character I actually root for just because Bay portrays him as having the personality of a puppy and Sam treats him like the best damn dog a kid could ever have.

So Bubblebee was cool.

The new chick flowed into the movie well. Her acting wasn't any better or worse than Megan Fox so no harm there.

Since the movie ends with Sam considering marriage, it is a shame Megan Fox's character wasn't in Dark of the Moon since it would of been a nice end cap for Sam/whatever-Megan's-character's-name-was

The action was easier to follow. I liked how the stakes were higher and the situation more intense.

I thought Sentinel Prime's betrayal was handled well. Cool stuff.

Question...

Are any of these robots able to repair themselves? Megatron still had the injuries he sustained at the end of Revenge of the Fallen; Bubblebee still can't talk.... so does this mean Optimus Prime is now a one-armed robot permanently????

Well B lost his legs in part 1 and is fine now. But you're right about the other two cases not making sense. Maybe head injuries aren't as fixable. Either way, considering Bumblebee's repair I assume Optimus will be fine.

I don't think that it would be unrepairable. They mention, I think, in the first one that Jazz is not a candidate for repair, implying that had he not been so completely damaged he could have been restored. Plus, Ratchet has to exist for some purpose, I assume he can take care of it.

depends on the injuries i guess...i mean the decepticons were in bad shape after the first one and were still dropped in the middle of an ocean to keep people from finding them and repairing them

Some more thoughts on the movie...

I did like how some of the humans sided with the Decepticons in order to survive. I think Patrick Dempseys character was a good foil for Sam

One thing I hated:

I understand Bay is making essentially a kid's film, but all the adults being SO FREAKING SILLY was driving me nuts after a while... but then again I hated it in T1 and ROTF as well, so nothing new to complain about here.

I'm glad the parents were hardly used. I hated how they showed up for the end battle at the end of ROTF.

just saw the movie...

michael bay baaaaarely improved. his action is more comprehensible this time but just barely.... its still hard at times to figure out whos fighting who.

I wish i could strangle Bay for including yet again some ****ing ridiculously cartoony human characters that just belong in some other type of film... its sooo cringe-inducing and awkward(not as bad as the first two but still horrible)

Shia was good in this movie, but the blonde chick was awful...especially the scene where she pulls the biggest villain trick cliche in history.

the first half was edited together a bit weirdly... it just didnt feel right going from one location to another for some reason.

the whole climax with the cubes felt like they copy/pasted the script from the first two films..

with that said, i now applaud ILM and michael bays cinematographer for making this movie look so epicly gorgeous... and the 3d was amazing (and i hate 3d). I dont know how they did all this so quickly.

The action scenes were awesome too...at least the ones where robots werent wrestling with trash and metal flying everywhere.

this is the most epic and beautiful horrible movie you'll see this summer...

that said i have no idea what to rate this thing.
5-8 out of 10

btw wat was with optimus primes horrrible introduction?!?!... the first shot u see him he gets toppled over, and does the most laughable scream ever... "bllarhghghghghghg!!!"

and megatron was literally a hobo the whole movie... o_O

Did anyone one else have a problem with.

Optimus getting tangled in wires? That was stupid. The guy can take out that driller but gets stopped by a few wires.
Wreckers were awesome though. They jacked **** up a few times. Should have been in it more, just like the other autobots.

he was tangled for like half an hour too... and there were like 3 other bots helping him out

LOL I thought that was funny too. I just figured he was pretty much defeated in ROTF and now his only way to get revenge was to call in someone else to do the dirty work for him... which he does...

Sentinel Prime

The one thing this movie did real well was to show how in jeopardy the Earth was. Chicago got F'd up (and as Patriots fan thats what it gets for the 85 Superbowl). People got killed...like lots of them. As much as i liked Thor I never got a sense of doom or jeopardy from the movie.

Sentinel Prime

that was freakin dumb tho...

sentinel prime had NO reason to betray them... megatron was defeated! and the only way to work that machine was though prime.

plus why didnt he keep the matrix when optimus offered it to him.

lol somebody slap me for trying to think about how this mess makes sense

um he had already betrayed the Autobots...he was in the Ark bringing the tech to Megatron when he was shot down

yes he
betrayed them because they were losing the war.......not anymore, megatrons a hobo now

Starscream: Megatrons a hobo now. Didn't you get the memo?

Sentinel Prime: No.

WAWAWA! :woot::woot::woot:

There wasn't any. The movie is just about Thor's dad teaching him a lesson. It's basically a tale of a kid getting sent to the corner for acting up.

Transformers on the other hand is about 'splosions and sacrifice.

There were way too many humans is this film. They could have axed 5 easily. We literally got introduced to a new human every 5 min.

Another thing that pissed me off

When Ironhide goes down. Non of the autobots seem to notice or care. Prime, Ratchet, Bee or Sideswipe should have at least reacted or mentioned to his death. I would like to think there is some sort of camaraderie between the autobots. Guess not.

The original purpose behind Sentinel betraying the Autobots was still valid; it was the only way he thought it possible to save Cybertron. It wouldn't matter if someone pointed out to him that the Decepticons were defeated and Megatron was a hobo, Sentinel went on the whole movie about how the Autobots just "didn't get it" that saving Cybertron is what's important, and it was Megatron who wanted it saved, not the Autobots.

Plot was still epically insane and dumb though.

Good movie though.

No one cares about the characters in this movie; neither the audience or the other characters. lol.

In my opinion though, the robots are all soldiers... from birth to death, and nothing else. I would guess when an autobot dies, the other autobots simply say "He fought bravely" and move on right away.

That's the interesting, or perhaps uninteresting thing, about Transformers. At the end of the day, all they are are soldiers/killing machines. Take away the fact they are robots and they are all just soldiers from birth to death and no personality otherwise in-between...We never get a sense of what the heck these creatures do during peace time... Do they just sit around and tell jokes? Play target practice with their space cannons?

(I never watched the cartoons/played with the toys. I was born in 1983 and always knew who the Transformers, but I was never into them...)

Kinda agree....

I know! Twice he tripped or got thrown off and it was this odd mumbling sound-- bad no matter when in the film it'd happen, but terrible for it to happen when you're first introduced to him in the film. Very different than his intro in T2! :lmao:

Ironhide getting killed should be a pretty big deal. If it was a human character from the all the films we would have to endure some pretty cheesy ****.

But your right. Seems the intentions Bay has for the bots (except BumbleBee) seems very who gives a ****. I dont see these movies for the human characters, I see it for the bots. So this has disappointed for the past two films. I wanna actually care. But there is no reason too in the end because thats never been the intention of the filmmaker.

Rewatched both films to get ready for DOTM:

Transformers

What I liked:

- The amazing CGI obviously

- Ironhide

- Scorponok (wish he was bigger though)

- Frenzy (cool character, I'm glad that wasn't Soundwave though)

- Jon Voight

- Lots of humor especially with Mrs. Witwicky, who I could have sworn was
the film version of Bam's mother from Jackass

- References as a nod to original fans (The Volkswagon Beetle, Porsche, Prime having an energy weapon for example)

- Optimus Prime Vs. Megatron and no ****ing Hot Rod to interfere!

What I didn't like:

- Not enough Starscream

- Hugo Weaving being used only for his voice to be altered and sound totally unrecognizable. David Kaye was the best Megatron voice actor IMO, should have used him instead.

- Prime's mouth. I was hoping it would be just like how it was in Beast Wars, that was better.

- The movie was 30 minutes longer than it should have been. It dragged with dumb plot points that turned out to be a waste. The glasses subplot mainly.

- Tyrese

- John Turturro

- Barricade just disappearing

- In order to protect The Cube, they decide to bring it into a populated city. Really?

- Jazz dying.

- How quick Prime threw the fight as soon as Megatron got the upperhand

Transformers: ROTF

What I liked:

- Soundwave's cameo

- Wheelie not being annoying this time

- The forest fight

What I didn't like:
- The movie was way too long. It did not need to have a running time of two and a half hours!

- While I loved the opening scene, I strongly disagreed with Optimus Prime killing that defenseless Decepticon in cold blood. The Optimus Prime we knew was merciful. It would've been like watching Superman execute some thug he thwarted.

- Jon Voight, one of the best things about the first movie, didn't come back for this. I'm aware it was a new administration in The White House, but they could've found a way to bring him back or at least have him do a cameo.

- Skids and Mudflap. I know they wanted to give Transformers personalities, but this was just all sorts of wrong with them speaking ebonics.

- John Turturro. He came back and wasn't killed off! Double fail!

- Devastator, arguably the strongest Decepticon, is killed by humans! What the fu**?!!

- And finally the single greatest mistake of the movie, was the way they treated The Fallen. Throughout the movie, they made such a big deal about him, that he was this all-powerful being that even Megatron feared, but in the end, Optimus Prime destroyed him like a jobber. All that buildup was for nothing.

What they should've done is resurrect Optimus Prime, have him get beat up by The Fallen to show everybody how strong he was THEN have Optimus get Jetfire's parts to make his comeback and win the fight. That would've been a lot better than what actually happened.

Wow so no one acknowledged Ironhides death.

Well, it was very shocking how it happened. And it seemed like everyone froze. Then after it was done, everything "just got real" and no one had time to really acknowledge it. Although, I'd like to think off-screen they mentioned it to each other.

Unfortunately, I think the last time we saw the Autobots alone together on screen was in TF1 during the "Autobots, roll out! We rolling!" scene.
