Official Dishonored Thread

Really enjoying this game and the world is has created.
I do find myself re-starting missions after I F-up and get caught but there are times when I just want to finish the mission and end up taking the easy out.

Think once its finished I will try and be more patient and stealth it.

videos like that make this game look amazing but I just would never think of doing this stuff. I just wasn't creative enough to enjoy this game to its full potential. I played it very straightforward, just sneaking up on guards with blinks and taking them out silently. I got bored quick. Already traded it in to payoff my ACIII pre-order. Got nothing negative to say about this game though cuz I know it was the way I played it that was the problem, not the game itself.

Any reason to get the console version over the PC?

Yeah, the only downside a game like this can have is being too short and that's one thing it suffers from for sure. I really wish more developers put the time in to make games like this though.

Nope! Quick saves, 60 frames per second, slightly better graphics and best of all: Every loading screen takes literally 1-2 seconds.

Having some fun with this. The story is pretty cool. So far, the most fun I've had was using the whale oil power cells as bombs to get rid of guards. Toss one on a lone guard, BOOM! His buddies come running over to check, BOOM!!

I plan to replay this game...and that says something because I NEVER replay games.

I like that they are planning single player DLC!!! Stories and not just new equipment.

This makes me sad, whilst I knew that DLC would be coming it just makes me feel like, whats the point of getting a brand new game when I could wait 6-9months and get the fully loaded edition with all the DLC for a lower price.

If anything you supported a developer putting out a new IP so it was for a good cause. ;)

Challenge maps? Not interested Meh.

Extra story missions? Very interested. Cmon Spring.

Yeah I'm not a challenge map sort of guy.

I will simply twiddle my thumbs for a few months patiently.

So me getting the full game then paying for the extras is me supporting them ... not them taking advantage and putting out more story after releasing the game.

No sorry but DLC is the biggest joke in gaming, sure add more multiplayer maps I couldn't care less for online stuff, but adding more to the story, why not just take some extra time to add it in.

It's an insult not support.

DLC is coming out.

I may just wait for the second story-based pack in the Spring though, I like the gameplay but the trials don't sound too interesting. Getting to see more Dunwall is always a plus though.
I was interested in buying this game sometime this fall but news of this now makes me want to wait for the inevitable GOTY edition, since Bethesda seems to do that with their titles

No... you getting the game at launch is supporting a developer putting out a new and unproven IP when they need to show good sales numbers. :o

Regardless its the Spring of next year. Its not like if they had waited a month it would have been in. I respect a person's decision to wait for Goty editions or whatever, but acting like you've been bamboozled is honestly more than a little silly. If you felt that way you should have returned the game the second you saw it said DLC in the main menu.

Then I would never buy a new game as they all do this, its an industry problem not just for this game.

Take that extra time to add more to the story, develop things further, expecting people to just pay for it after to get the full story isn't great when they have just paid full price for a game.
Then 9months later the full edition will be out cheaper than when it was new with all its extras.

well thats not a valid solution as you cant return a game once you've opened it

DLC style content has been around for ages though except back in the day, it was called expansion packs and people ate that up. You buy a game, love it and want more and this way you get that quicker instead of waitnig a few years for a sequel. Would it be better to just throw all that extra content in one retail package for $20-30 next year, bc that would have been the alternative. Instead of that, now it comes through the internet. I dont really see that as much different than how things have worked for decades. I guess the difference now is that with all the consoles being connected to an online store, publishers do it more often bc they can bypass the retail chains and all the costs which come with packaging, shipping and trying to sell smaller chunks with no guarantee that items will sell. They dont lose anything on the digital front

I definetly feel your sentiments on the issue as some publishers do abuse it and are worse than others. I really dont think Bethesda though would be lumped in that category. I would say Capcom is about the worse in the business bc what they do is just downright ridiculous

So don't buy games new. There's no shame in being a patient gamer.

You did get the full story. I think the trials DLC is a bit of a joke but from the sounds of it the story DLC will be, minor story spoilers ahead,

from Daud's perspective.

You picked the wrong game to crusade against when it comes to DLC being used to nickel and dime customers.

Thats the thing though, I can't so they have my by the balls.
I've being a gamer for 20years and just got a degree in it, I can't let a good game hang around until a later date. As I then end up reading the story online, getting spoilers, watching videos so its easier just to play it and join in with the discussions ... or at least follow them better.

That makes your opinion even stranger lol, someone in your position should understand how game development works and why most DLC isn't included in the game.

You seem to be under the assumption that they're charging for content that should have been released with the title. There are cases of that but this is by no means the worst offender of squeezing pennies out of customers. Clearly the extra cash you pay for being an early adopter isn't worth joining in discussions and avoiding spoilers because here you are complaining about it, so feel free to wait for a price drop.

Just because I studied it doesn't mean I like the practise of adding in extra content to squeeze out more money.

Lets say the game utterly tanked and got horrible reviews and poor sales, would this DLC even be released/made?!

They were already developing it alongside the actual game, its not an after thought it was planned. Which annoys me as they know if it does well people will want more, so they can then release add ons.

You studied something to do with gaming but aren't able to grasp that "extra content" isn't always a code phrase for, "Let's get more CA$$$$H." If you want an example of that look at what EA did with Mass Effect 3.

"From Ashes" was launch day DLC and they charged $10 for it because they knew fans of the series would eat it up. That is s**tty. That is trying to get people to pay $70 for a $60 game. That is not what is happening here. You're acting like they cut out the last chapter of this game and said, "Hey, you'll have to buy the rest next year!" When they didn't do that and are planning to develop extra content that isn't essential to the core experience.

Lets say the game utterly tanked and got horrible reviews and poor sales, would this DLC even be released/made?!

Probably not. Why would they need to support the title with extra content if it was critically panned and nobody bought it?

But if you want an example of planned DLC that failed look no further than Max Payne 3. They had to re-think how to release their planned DLC because of lack of interest in extra multiplayer content.

They were already developing it alongside the actual game, its not an after thought it was planned. Which annoys me as they know if it does well people will want more, so they can then release add ons.

The challenge maps, maybe. Even then they're only $5 and offer no story content. Either way, planning does not equal developing, and there's nothing wrong with having a DLC business model to support a game after it launches. If you think there is a problem with that and don't like the idea of supporting developers by paying full price for their work then nothing is stopping you from waiting until the price drops.

Dishonored’s Corvo Attano was originally a talking ninja

Though not as ludicrous as a Victorian-esque assassin impersonating a British actor impersonating an American vigilante with halitosis, the idea of a speaking Corvo Attano flitting about Dunwall’s dankness in Dishonored seems unfeasible—especially after we learned his brooding silence brushed close into “creepy as hell” territory. But that’s what Dishonored co-creators Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith told OPM UK, even revealing the displaced royal protector’s original incarnation as a ninja.

So has anyone tried the self imposed challenge of Corvo the loudest ghost in Dunwall?

It's basically break/throw every bottle, cup and body around careless of noise but never be seen. Slam your sword on railings, walls and set off alarms. Throw stuff at guards, smack them in the face, knock them out and everything else.

It's hard but fun as hell.

Anyone else have challenges like this?

Funny enough I was planning on getting Assassin's Creed before I bought this at the last minute. I think this sated my assassinating needs for the year. :D

I'm getting ready to do my No Kill, No Detection run through and then after that once more for High Chaos and I should be more or less done with this game.
