Rise of the Silver Surfer Official: Fantastic Four 2 Novelization Discussion MAJOR SPOILERS!

Whoa guys....you are both passionate about your opinion....and both have done well in giving your opinions....lets take it down just a notch....

Keep debating the issues, its very interesting....but lets chill just alittle...

ok??????

thanks......

Okay, tell me- in all honesty- which would you consider to most ICONIC:

1. You go outside, in New York City, and look up to see Galactus walking through the streets- gigantic. There's a storm raging. He's mobile. He's scary.

But, on the other side of the street- you only see a part of him.

2. You go outside in New York City, and look up to the sky to see Galactus looking down on Earth as though it's just a spec of dust for his taking. There's a storm raging. Think Day after Tomorrow type stuff and through all this you can still see Galactus looking down on you as if you are nothing at all.

But, he can't move...

- Now, tell me which one would SCARE you, INTIMIDATE you, the most?

1. Mobile City-sized Galactus.

2. Omnipotent Galactus looking down on Earth.

#2 is the image I have Galactus, it's scary as hell- imagining this- because you know, just seeing that image of Galactus looking down on EARTH that the end of the world is coming- very soon.

Hey, I'm up for either one if Tim can put it to screen...

There is clearly a LOT that is left out of the book. I'm not sure if it's by design or sloppy or rushed writing, incomplete information on the author's part or some combination.

I agree.... I don't think the author was privy to a lot of stuff so I will leave it at that and hope even better stuff was left out. :woot:

I was also very curious about the
two Americans. Why did he specify that they were American? Was it just to make a connection to the first film and his time in the US, or is there something more? Were they supposed to be CIA? Shield? Just a couple admirers? I have a feeling we'll learn more either in this film or a future one.

Personally I was hoping for Boris.

I would have liked to have seen that too. These days, you don't even see him in the comics anymore, with no explanation as to what happened to him. The few I have seen where flashbacks, like in Jeph Loeb's story "Stan Lee Meets Doctor Doom", which was quite touching in a strange way.

And I am confused about that
umasking scene in the castle and its meaning.
I hope this isn't something that gets no explanation in the movie either.

What I think would have been a cool idea is to have Doom disguise himself as the elderly retainer in order to cover up his damaged features and meet with people under the pretense of screening them from seeing Doom himself. Hey, he dressed as an elderly janitor once in the Baxter Building.

And to the poster above, referencing the shots- specifically the shots from Skyscrapper perspective of seeing Galactus walking through the streets from the corners of the sky scrappers- if you've seen the cartoons- this is what I'm referencing as the 'Godzilla' angles... I never meant to infer that Galactus is mindless, just that it would look like and have the same angles, most likely, as Godzilla 98'.

Thanks for clarifying what you meant. It's just that I've seen this Godzilla reference made before to deliberately mock the idea of using the traditional Galactus and it gets on my t#ts.

Have you seen Kel's theory that
he may be wearing a Victor mask in the scene of Ben putting him into the wall? I hope that's the case, and it seems to fit with what we see in the book.

And after he has made his entrance with that mask, he could put his battle armor on for theie confrontation with the Surfer.

That's what I'm hoping for at this point.

I must retreat from this thread. All of the spoiler tags are making me want to read them and pick up the novelization so that I can see what is so good about it. Please someone help me,,,,,help me.....so as I will not click on them...I must hold on until June 15, must hold on......helpppppppppp :yay:

2 has been done, it sounds like the Star Trek movie "the Final Frontier" one of the funniest (and I mean in a dumb way) movies I've ever seen, check it out if you want to see a face in a cloud shooting lighting from his eyes, what a joke lol. I hope we don't see a face in the sky. I want a walking Galactus or at the least a flash back of him. Maybe this storm is a conduit, siphon or sponge (a giant spunge bob in the sky now that is stupid) to transfer earths energy to him (Galactus not Bob). I hope for at least that much of him "a glimps." If I doen't get that this movie will be a joke! And Story and the rest of this crew will have butcherd the greatest comic ever made. And as far as his essence being a storm well thats been done, it was called the movie "Twister" another giant storm reaking havok on mankind lol. Sorry I can't stop laughing but this is what it might turn into. But I still have hope :-)

Why is everyone acting as if walking automatically means Galactus is a B-movie monster :whatever:....I mean seriously, its not a big deal, that wont make Galactus a B-movie monster, what will make him a BMM is bad writing in the script.
Also I dont want to see a giant Galactus just looking down at Earth because that would be just WAY too cheesy...Id be so upset about something like that. Bottom line is comic books does not equal movie...not everything will be translated well to screen

The novelization describes that scene, more grusome than I ever could....that scene alone will keep it at a PG 13 rating, and could easily hit on an R.....Doom with the board will be amazing if it comes across on the bigscreen

as far as the family dynamic, its all over the novelization, in every relationship...
Oh thanks...
Umm..
more questions
Do the 4 do normal superhero work (like spider-man fighting off bank robbers)? And how much do they use their powers often?

They don't really do any other superhero work besides mess with the Surfer, there is alot of mention of them fighting other monsters and stuff but they don't go into detail. They do use there powers alot, but mostly just for like well.. you know stupid everyday stuff.. They're mostly like Celebrities the novel wastes alot of the first chapters being emo about paparazzi's.

They use their powers throughout. Sometimes in everyday situations and, of course in the action scenes. They seem to be at full power and use their powers pretty much exactly as they do in the comics.

There aren't any scenes I can remember in which they are chasing bank robbers etc., but there is one scene in which Sue questions Reed about a bill from the city . . . apparently from some damage they caused fighting crime.

They generally seem to be experienced super-heros - just like in the comics. At the end, they have to rush off to fight a monster that's attacking Paris: A seeming nod to the Mole-man's monster of issue #1.

I read the first few pages of the novel today standing in walmart. the part where sue is thinking and talking about her wedding and people on tv talking about her.

But i'm gonna get it tomorrow i have some money so i'm gonna buy it!:yay: :woot:

Movies like 300, Sin City, X-men 2 and Spiderman 1+2 have shown me the problem isn't comic to movie translation. These movies didn't have that problem, It's the vision and genius of a gifted director and team that makes the diffrence. Something Story and his team failed to show in the first FF movie, they came close but played it to safe thus failing to capture what made the comic great. I'm a huge FF fan and am proud to be called a 50+ "fanboy" a word some folks here tend to toss around like the far right toss the word liberal around, as if it meant your a communist or something ha ha. Fanboy to me means I'll hold them to a higher standard now that they have taken on the challenge of bringing the greatest comic, done by the greatest comic artist Jack "the King" Kirby to the big screen, thats my right as a paying customer "Excelsior"

Big question from me:

How many action sequences does this movie have? The first film basically the bridge sequence, the climactic battle and possibly the transformation on the station, although that's pretty debatable. So basically 2.5 sequences. How many are we looking at in the novel?

They just added several new pics to myspace and the nightclub scene looks just as funny as I imagined it. Johnny have a hell of a time, Reed uptight, and Ben feeling out of place. Lol.

i read on the board's that Jessica alba has another nude scene, can someone alabarate? I hate when movies just stick them in there so if someone can tell me how this in the book that would be great!

After the Silver Surfer interrupts the wedding Johnny chases him. The Surfer messes up his powers to where when someone touches him they switch abilities. Johnny and Sue accidently switch their powers where Sue's body is in flames. When they switch back Sue's clothes are burned hence her being naked.

That's a little hard to say, because things are happening throughout, but I would say (counting the chase we've already seen), there are about 4 "action scenes", but there are many other scenes (comparable to the transformation scene) with interesting things going on.

I just read the final chapters and I am dissappointed in the way certain things were done. I will still see this movie but certain aspects have curbed my enthusiasm for it notably the ending, source of powers and the name Gah Lak Tus as it appears in the book. Of course, the movie could change this but i doubt it.

I was planning to suggest the very same thing when I saw the reviews over there today. I want Willie to submit his review to AICN. Two major reasons...

1) It's actually positive.

2) He'd actually disagree with the notion that the "cloud" MUST be Galactus.

And I kinda doubt they'd print either one of those notions. But if they did, it would certainly help the film in the eyes of the fanboys over there. And that can only be a good thing for the franchise.

Sorry, I don't have an account over there and I'm not really interested in getting one.

I did take a quick look at those reviews, and they seem fair. Just from the wording, though, you can see that they're trying to stick to the soundbites they've seen on AICN and don't want to stray to far from the AICN party line.

I think the film has some potential, and that's all that really matters, isn't it?
