Sequels Official Gambit Casting/Speculation Thread [merged-6]

Enough with stinkin' pretty boys and male models already. I'm sick of it. I could slap a Gambit costume on a mannequin and it would look just like him but if I put it in front of a camera next to the likes of Sir Ian McKellan and Halle Berry it would look f'in ridiculous!
This role, like any other, needs an ACTOR. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck that doesn't necessarily mean it can look and quack like any other duck!! Look at Christopher Reeve as Superman, Jack Nicholson as the Joker or Micheal Keaton as Batman. None of these guys really looked much like the dudes they portrayed in their respective roles. But they did the work, the research, they got into the character's head and they became the character. Reeve, Nicholson, Keaton these are actors; actors who when we watched these films convinced us that they actually WERE who they were portraying. They helped us to maintain the illusion so that when we looked at the screen we thought "hey that's Superman up there." or "Gee there's the Joker." If I saw Matthew Lawrence playing Gambit all I'd be able to think would be "Holy crap the kid from Mrs. Doubtfire is playing Gambit!?!?" And then I'd vomit.
An ACTOR people. Come on we all love Gambit right? So, how about someone playing him who will do him justice, who will bring to the character the credibility that it deserves. Not someone who will ham it up and turn the dude into a big joke. (i.e. Val Kilmer as Batman, Jim Carrey as Riddler) Remember everybody, ACTOR!

OMG guys, I only mention matt half jokingly, for a young gambit (like for a x-men evolution style gambit, for a movie or show, after someone said they wanted a young 24-25 y.o. gambit), of all the random and stupid suggestions on the broad, why is everyone keep going back to my joke of a commit about the damn lawerence kid, what part of my post about him, came across as being serious
and come on Mrs. Doubtfire, that was like 13-14 years ago, do you say "Holy crap that Mrs. Doubtfire" every time you see Robin Williams too, or how about when you saw Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan as bond, did you think "Holy crap the guy from Mrs. Doubtfire is playing bond" LOL

I don't think of Mrs. Doubtfire every time I see Robin Williams or Pierce Brosnan because they were actually IN SOMETHING ELSE.

Jeez, Josh Holloway, Ian Somerhalder, Rodrigo Santoro; the odds of somebody who was on "Lost" keep going up and up.

p.s. I just watched "the Departed" and if I thought they could afford him and if I thought he'd actually do it I'd pick Leonardo Dicarprio to play the ragin' cajun over all of these suckers any day.

well, if were looking for a semi well known name, of someone who’s a good actor (even though they don’t necessarily look exactly like the character)
Josh Hartnett, might be interesting

Ick. I'd prefer Holloway ove DiCrapio and that's saying a whole lot.

Oh my god. DiCaprio for Gambit.
About Rodrigo, Jesus Christ, there's a lot more to him than effin Lost. Actually, if there's one little thing that counts against him is Lost. But this guy has gone from playing a prisioner who became a drag queen in jail to a junk addicted to a troubled teen who goes to an asylum to a bad boy, and he made all these roles greatly, winning tons of awards in Brazil.

Of course that making a good drag queen doesn't make him a good cast for Gambit, but at least it shows he's got some talent as an actor. :p And he looks the part imo...

hes in touch with his feminine side. Isn't that precious, my goodness! :)

lol

Rodrigo is a huge celebrity here. God, he was betrayed live in a Carnival, his girlfriend (stunning and good actress Luana piovani ) was phtographed kissing another man on Carnival. lol. But now he dates a beautiful model.

very gambit there!

ian somerhalder or rodrigo santaro for gambit :o
oh and jared leto too

Oh sheesh. Does someone else want to explain why we want Gambit in the movies? Gambit can crack any code, break-in anywhere, and escape most anything because he is a master thief by profession. He has a smart mouth, which doesn't exactly win over some people. He and Cable are the two characters who came into the series and challenged the way the X-Men do things. Gambit doesn't respect authority and often does his own thing.

He really is a senior member. He has even taught a class of students. Gambit is the outsider, who has only stayed with the X-Men for the sake of Rogue. No one has ever loved Rogue as much as he has, and he has consistently stuck by her, except for right now since he is Death. He's the only one not afraid to touch her. But, Gambit is much more than Rogue's lover, and she's much more than his lover. He is refreshingly different from the other guys on the team. Gambit is the only criminal bad boy to ever be a superhero. No other superhero wears a trenchcoat and throws burning playing cards. And he is by no means similar to Wolverine.

Gambit is good for a lot and has played an essential role in several X-Men stories and even had two solo series and two limited series before then.

I love him because he's gorgeous, has shown Rogue the greatest love she's ever known, is interesting, Cajun (He's one of only three Cajun characters to have ever appeared in comics), witty, has a heart of gold, thinks outside the box, and has done good despite being raised as a criminal and having worked for the evil Sinister. He had a choice to do good things, no one made him, and that is what makes him admirable. The same goes for Rogue. Gambit walks the line so to speak. I can't really say that for any of the other X-Men.

If that doesn't answer your inquiry, I hope one of the other posters can.:yay:
Good gosh...i don't know where to start...^^
You bring up everything i hate about him as an argument to love him.
:whatever:
He is a criminal...he is a nosewise stubborn motormouth...a none teamplayer doing "his thing"...he don't respect people.
He has nothing in common with Cable....Cable IS an authority fiugure.
His love for Rogue is pathetic.
He is NOT the only Ex-criminal-superhero...switching sides is a common motive in comicwriting.
(Even Archangel served Apocalypse.)
In most storarcs he could have been replaced by Wolverine who shares his positive traits.
I am glad that he is the only hero wearing a trenchcoat regulary, because it looks...odd at best.
The playcard-throwing motive has come up with some other characters before, for example Bulseye.
And all that Cajun-talk...what's a Cajun anyway?!
I hope somebody else give it another try to explain.
:woot:

PS:
Still...please no offense...I'm really interested in how someone can love that character at all.

...
Here's a guy living on the edge, a thief, often depicted as coming up homeless and/or as a street hustler. He has a checkered past and sees using his mutant ability as an X-man as a redeeming opportunity; an opportunity to make something of himself. Hell this guy is the poster boy for the confused, disaffected and eager for purpose youth of generation X and next. People (especially teens) can relate to a guy like this, a multi faceted fellow trying to make something of himself, trying to prove himself. He's exactly the hero we need in these confusing times we live in. That is why Gambit deserves a featured spot in the next X-film, ...
Ok...THAT are some points I do understand...

Even if the story is still not new (inovativ) to the X-Men (Storm startet as a stealing streetkid) , but it is modernly refreshed to the Gen-X-point of view.

But I don't believe that a spot in a movie between the X-Men can flesh that out.

hes bound to be a movie so..i guess it sux to be you lol

That's mah man for ya. Gambit's like no one else. Gibby clearly expressed some of what I was trying to say. I'm bad a debating. Cajuns are descendents of French-speaking settlers of Eastern Canada who were exiled for religious and political reasons and who later found their way to Southwest Louisiana.

When I see Gambit on the big screen, I will probably pass out from happiness. Of course, I loved having Rogue in the movies if only they hadn't thrown out the actual character and put someone else in her place. I love her just as much.

Rodrigo Santoro is gorgeous; he can play Gambit any day, but they should give Loic Gisselere (the guy from the video link) a chance to read at least. He has all the skills.:o
