Official JLA discussion thread - Part 3

I really didn't find the dialogue all that problematic or problems with novice superheroes acting cocky or head first. And Hal's personality turn really wasn't random, it was from Batman's talk with him.

That said, Batman taking off his stuff was pretty damn stupid. That's all Johns' fault. Justice League was nowhere near Johns' best, but I really didn't have a problem with the writing as opposed to the problems I'm having with the writing in Johns' Shazam backups.

wasn't batman undressing so the parademons would abduct him?

Lee didn't write the terrible dialogue, the cliched as hell storyline, the piss-poor and heavily forced-in version of Darkseid, the dull and frankly idiotic brutish Superman, the painfully jackass Hal Jordan, the underdeveloped Cyborg, the random moment with Batman taking off his cape, cowl, and chest insignia that was never explained in the least, the cheesy and nonsensical ending with the random turn of Hal's personality within the last few pages...

Seriously, how in hell is any of that pandering to Lee's limited abilities as a storyteller? At all? At any point whatsoever? Explain this to me, because I'm having a really hard time seeing it. Is Lee just so bad that he forced Johns to write "WE GOT THIS!" into the story, too? Because that may be one of the worst lines I've read in a comic since the days of Austen's Superman.

I think there's a difference between an artist's failings and a flat-out dropping of the ball by the writer.

i get what hippie hunter is saying. an artists' work can lend themselves to specific types of stories better than other types of stories. it's understandable that a writer would then craft their story to that specific artist. Lee's artwork is essentially the jerry bruckheimer/michael bay summer blockbuster popcorn film. so thats how johns wrote the story.....unfortunately.

And even though I personally don't quite get how that happens...he's right.

Because a Geoff Johns book drawn by George Perez reads totally different than a Geoff Johns book by Jim Lee.

It worked didn't it?

Had he kept it on, they woulda tried to kill him. Take it off, he's just another hairless ape making a run for it.

I honestly think that with The Avengers being as successful as it's been already... the next DC project we're gonna be hearing about is Justice League. And like I've said before... instead of going the route that Marvel has done (solo films first then a team up movie) we're gonna get JL and then spin-offs for all the characters (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern reboot, Flash, etc.).

I don't like that idea because I think it would be harder to attract prestigious acting talent and harder to pay them.

You wouldn't see the casting quality of something like nolan's batman or man of steel in a justice league movie. You'd see young relative unknowns, probably along the same lines of that justice league mortal thing.

From a psychological standpoint, I believe spinoff movies would be a harder sell than a team up movie combining all these heroes that can stand on their own. What if half of the heroes in the movie fall flat?

But I also think WB is screwed if they try and copy marvel's approach, because marvel did it first and lucked out big time. If they fail then it makes them look that much worse.

Either way, we're better off seeing WB stick with individual hero movies. In comics I prefer projects that spring from creators, not editorial, and I want the same for the movies comics characters star in.

I don't think there's much chance of a live action Justice League movie being made any time soon

making a justice league movie as a reaction to the success of avengers would be the complete wrong reason to make the movie, and im sure it wouldnt turn out well.

I'm still waiting for a good live action Wonder Woman movie to help erase the memory of the abomination that was the live action tv pilot

I saw it on the Atop the Fourth Wall review of it

Pants to be darkened! :o

It's not a guarantee it would turn out badly.

I mean, I was always of the belief too that - if a film didn't have an impassioned director who had some great hunger to make the movie, it wouldn't turn out any good.

However, Marvel structured their movie series in very quick succession (IE, they did kind of rush it), with no concrete directors or scripts lined up for any of the projects originally, and yet most of them turned out pretty damn good.

nothing is a 100% guarantee, but it'd be them making the film for the wrong reason, and chances are that isnt gonna work out for them.

personally, i've felt that vast majority of marvel films have been very sub-par. avengers was a lot of fun, by and far the best. but there was a lot of passion on whedon's behalf, he was the perfect man for the job. and i feel he had to the appropriate amount of time and space to make it happen.

Anyone read the Free Comic Book Day story?

Ya it wasnt bad, gives major insight to the new magical heirarchy of DC.

I thought it was actually pretty cool, was the second guy supposed to be Vic Sage?

So the three Sins are Pandora, The Question and the Phantom Stranger?

Yep I'm assuming that other guy was the Question as he had the same look

So the Question is now associated with magic? Did he previously have a connection to mysticism? I don't really remember that. Maybe I missed something.

Nope he's never been a magic character before now so this must be something new they're doing with him

I wonder if all of the black room items will play into the Trinity War or show up later.

Look forward to Hawkman joining the League too, it'd be nice to enjoy a story with him in the new 52.
