Eh, he doesn't look like an optimistic happy character... in fact, if anything, it looks like he needs the bathroom really, REALLY badly...

Surprisingly, Cap doesn't look too bad, it seems (no seams(:awesome:)) all they did was add a hood and replace the sash with a belt.

"sigh":csad:

Captain Marvel meets The Spectre....meets Electro

I'm looking forward to it still. I just hope that somehow by the end of the arc he has his old personality or something.

:(

Well, it looks like Billy himself won't be the same...but maybe through the gifts of his powers he becomes more optimistic or something towards the end?

I'm still hoping DC decides that this really does suck and uses their exit strategy to bring back the old stuff.

I know it's a fever dream, but they did show us that it exists.

Have you all seen the newest Gutters?

Yes ...I am with you my friend, but we all know that this is corporate BS guiding this. As unhappy as I am about it, I do get it (I believe in capitalism) as long as the sales figures reflect positively on this stuff, this is what we're going to be getting. I'm hoping that once the novelty wears off, the loyal long time fans (if enough of us feel the same) will get back that which we all loved for years. (This stuff just smells and tastes of "Heroes Reborn" to me.)
As for Captain Marvel (I'll never call him SHAZAM), I do not hate the redesign as much as I feared I might from first look, but I don't like the hood and he looks a bit Adam Warlock-like. I still feel a sense of foreboding due to the title "Curse of SHAZAM". The whole premise seems wrong. Billy was not burdened with a curse, but bestowed with a gift. He's like Alladin. Cap is not grim and gritty, he is a bigger boyscout than Superman. That's how he should be. I love the way he was depicted in the animated "The Return of Black Adam"....what was wrong with that?!
The worst however is the name change. Johns says it makes sense, cause many already thought his name was SHAZAM. Those are the ones that don't read the stuff. I'm a teacher and believe me there are tons of characters outside of Superman, Batman, & Wonder Woman that kids (and adults) get wrong constantly. So I say it's BS! I'm sure it has more to do with Marvel (really) reviving their Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell). Yes, more legal BS than creative improvement. Cap's name and look were perfect (and so was Ordway's origin).

THIS IS CAPTAIN MARVEL!

Why is every thing being darkened??:csad:

Is the costume even that different? He has a red jump suit with a gold belt and gold boots. He has a white cape which now, instead of hanging off one shoulder, is attached to both and forms a hood. Big whoop.
No body knows how that series is going to be so might as well and wait and ***** until you've read it.
And you can't blame DC wanting to rename one of their characters with a name like Captain Marvel. Especially since Shazam is more recognizable anyway. I'm sure the Wizard will just be called The Wizard. As for Freddy and Mary, they probably fell between the cracks, in the same way that Wally, Jade, Adam Strange, and many others have.

Because the image shown has lots of dark colors and the title has the word Curse in it. God forbid they do something with Shazam other than have it be whimsical. Besides, the comic could very well still have whimsical elements in it. The Captain Marvel shown in JSA during its Johns run had many darker elements and yet still made damn good comics.

great....another hero grimacing from the shadows. STOP TRYING TO MAKE EVERYONE BATMAN!

The fact that people are overreacting to this means that DC has already won.

Because I can't remember people showing this much passion for Captain Marvel, which is what DC wants, aside from money.

Passionate maybe, but it's really a protest....I don't see pissing off fans as winning.

They don't care about Captain Marvel, or Shazam, or whatever the hell he is this week. They can't even be bothered to get Superman right, so expecting anything for Captain Marvel is pretty silly.

The original Captain Marvel no longer exists. Period.

The old interpretation of Captain Marvel was not good (IMO.), despite having wisdom of Solomon, he was shown as naive and gullible.

His mythos had many campy elements and all Marvel family having powers at the same time was, a bit too much.

He need to be modernized but I do not want him to be dark and angry.

WB should try Justice Society movie firest, keep it in a separate universe where Superman, Batman, Flash and WW are not present.

Here is the team - Captain Marvel, Mr. Terrific, Dr. Fate, Dr. Mid Nite, Hawk Man, Black Canary / Huntress.

Alan Scott and Jay Garrick can be introduced in later sequels. (To avoid obvious comparisons with Hal Jordan and Barry Allen.)

Because most of us would much rather have quality comic books than MORE superhero movies.
