Adam Brody Remembers His 'Justice League' Flash Suit, Before The Project Sprinted Away Forever

Posted 2 hrs ago by Larry Carroll in DC Comics, News

In some alternate universe, perhaps Adam Brody did get to play The Flash. Maybe the “Justice League” movie did get filmed in summer 2008 rather than abandoned at the last moment, and maybe Common and the other stars did a pretty good job and our alternate selves are watching the results right around now.

Unfortunately, the Adam Brody of our universe never got to play Barry Allen, and is convinced he never will. But he did suit up—once.

“I put it on once, yeah,” remembered the affable 29-year-old actor when we caught up with him recently, a respectful whisper in his tone as he remembered the day he slipped into the Flash suit and thought he might be the first man to ever play the role in a film. “It was such a preliminary version that it wasn’t quite cool yet. It was only kinda nerdy.”

“I did some poses,” he laughed, remembering the costume fitting. “It was kinda what you’d think, without [certain features]; it was the first, rough-draft version.”

No sooner had Brody, a proud comic book geek himself who’ll be seen later this month in “Jennifer’s Body,” landed the dream gig than it was gone—and he still isn’t even sure why.

“I’ll never totally know; I mean, we’re always half in the dark,” he recalled of the high-profile, since-aborted project. “But how close did we come? We were in Australia for some table reads and fittings and whatnot for a few weeks with George Miller and his camp, and that was a great experience. I don’t regret a second of it; I had a really good time and a lot of positive things came from that.”

If anybody does have access to the aforementioned alternate universe, please be sure to sneak us a bootleg copy of the DVD, okay? Because as interesting as it would be to see Brody as Flash, the actor said he’s 100-percent sure that it ain’t gonna happen.

“I don’t think they’re doing that movie, that incarnation, ever,” he insisted, adding that it isn’t such a bad thing that the “Justice League” ship has sailed, because he may find himself another comic book role someday. “The world has plenty of superheroes, that’s what I’ll say.”

Agreed. I doubt JLA happens during the tenure of Reynolds and Bale

I doubt JLA ever happens, period. Just look at how long it has taken to get GL finally off the ground(assuming this version actually happens). And that is just one character. Considering WB has never done a superhero film outside of Batman and Superman, and they have yet to get Superman right, we are supposed to believe they will make a film that contains seven of their biggest superheroes? Whoever thinks that will happen, keep dreaming on that one.

Given how slowly WB is when it comes to making superhero movies it's hard to imagine them ever going the Marvel route and introducing JLers in separate films before coming out with a unified JLA flick. I think if we ever do get a JLA movie, it'll be like the Miller version and contain actors who haven't starred in a solo franchise.

A thought just occurred to me: does anyone think it would be a good idea to the opposite of what Marvel is doing, and come out with a group movie first, followed by solo movies for each superhero?

WB changes plans according to what direction the wind is blowing. First it was Miller's JL film which would have been a team-up film then a few solo superhero movies after that. Then the strike happens combined with TDK blowing the doors off of everything; WB sees this combined with seeing the potentially successful plan Marvel cooked up and they decide to try solo films first leading into a JLA film.

However, that will never happen. The second one of these solo films underperforms, WB will scrap those plans(of leading into a JL film) and go a different route. As it stands now, we are just lucky to be getting a GL film, outside of that, any superhero film that gets made that's not Batman or Superman will be a damn miracle. And a JL film is just a pipe dream. Too many factors have to go right for that to happen.

I wasn't aware this was ever their plan.

There is a quote from Alan Horn from not too long ago saying something along the lines of the studio's plan is too focus on solo movies first and that a JLA film would be much farther down the line.

Ever? Ever is a long ****ing time. Regime changes at WB would happen. New filmmakers and techniques that would make it easier would come about. A JLA movie in some shape or form will happen at some point.

probably so, also good find on that brody article. I still would love to see what these test suits looked liked. Maybe some day the costume folks would be allowed to release any drawings/pictures of the suits.

Yea i know we will probably never see that stuff. Its just a fan's foolish hope it makes it way online one of these days. If old burton superman stuff, or mcg superman stuff has gotten online now adays. i dont see why jlm stuff wont in the next few years or something.

Well that is nice to hear for them. Also in other news with the canned superman lives nic cage test suit being leaked out now. maybe we can get lucky in some time for maybe those test suits from jlm making it out some day.

I don't see Wonder Woman being made. Flash I can see being made if GL is huge, which it will be if it's made.....but WW.....just not sure how she can translate to film and even if she's done well, women heroins............or how ever you spell it, just don't do well at the BO.

yea i said that article the other day myself. My guess flash has a better shot at happening next compared to ww. Unless they get a new producer/director/writers on board that project that can actually get things going. I see flash and then maybe if shazam is on track again with johns(also doing flash) and other writer. But we will have to see how things go.

FlawlessVictory, that's great news! It'll probably never happen, but it's nice to know WB hasn't forgotten about WW and the JL.

^ More likely an assumption made by the journo than a statement from WB.

I will still be shocked if the Flash ever gets a movie.

So pretty much the fan consensus is that they'll be shocked if any DC superhero gets a movie other than Batman, Superman, or Green Lantern. Personally, I predict a lot of shocking in the future.

Same here

totally it blows it seems to be so hard for wb to get any dc projects up and running. Though i still think flash would/could happen alot easier then WW and the whole female lead heroine films blows deal.

What is WB doing with their animated stuff other than the direct to DVD outdated cartoons (which are still good but it's still outdated technology nonetheless)? Why aren't they competitive like Dreamworks or Pixar? Or am I missing something? Because I view Flash similar to Ant-Man in that I think its better as a family oriented animated if you do it at all. I still think you can bring the character seemlessly into live action in JLA even if his solo movie is animated. Not that I am going to care much about animated projects. Nevertheless, animated JLA may be the best way to go, but they still need to get to Pixar/Dreamworks quality.

As both an animation fan and an animator, I take offense to you referring to hand-drawn 2D animation as "outdated technology." :o

I am merely saying that stuff is outdated for major motion pictures released in theatres. It still has its place though.

oh i still enjoy 2d animation myself, and 3d cgi animation. As for flash i dont see any reason why the character couldnt be done in live action film. We have seen the character in smallville, and the flash tv show and his powers are not that difficult to do. Plus with the tech today could make a sweet sfx driven film.
