Official Rulk Thread

It doesn't make any more sense than the Thor beating, though, and it's indisputably in continuity now. That's a little infuriating to me.

It was more acceptable cuz c'mon, who really likes Uatu? But with Thor, dude who just got his book back and who's rising in popularity; his beating was horsecrap.

why do they let loeb **** around with everything in 616 when he's shown he really knows how to **** **** up in the ultimate universe.

I like Uatu. The Rulk thing was something that you'd expect to find in one of those silly li'l Marvel comic strips in the back of some comics or in a What If or something--comics where you can get away with stuff you'd never be able to get away with in the 616 books. Except, apparently, when you can because your name is Jeph Loeb and you rake in boatloads of money for Marvel despite being a hack.

I liked seeing Uatu get knocked out cuz it was just for s**ts and giggles. But the way he pwned Thor was ridiculous and infuriating. Not sure what more to clarify.

What I'm waiting to see explained is how Hulk stayed unconscious underwater (under the Golden Gate bridge) for the 3+ days it would have taken the red phoney to...ugh...leap the distance between the moon and the earth.

Peter David (unfortunately) established that the Hulk's "healing factor" is actually an adaptation power and he can even grow new organs spontaneously to prevent himself from dying. So the Hulk's body probably just "learned" to breathe underwater or developed a third lung or some nonsense.

The arc basically wrote Bruce Jones' run off as a f***ed up dream Nightmare gave to the Hulk, though, so it's possible that even that bit was part of the dream.

PAD can do whatever he wants to Hulk because without PAD we wouldn't have grey Hulk, Banner Hulk, or the Hulk personality that was in WWH.

That's like saying Stan Lee could've written One More Day and it would've been good. The reason those things are lauded is because they were actually good stories. The Hulk being able to develop gills at the drop of a hat is not so good.

Remember when he would just get stronger as he got angrier? Those were the days...

It was more acceptable cuz c'mon, who really likes Uatu?

It was still stupid. Watchers are cosmically powerful mofos. I hope you weren't one of the people complaining about the Black Panther/Silver Surfer armbar thing...

I won't argue against it being really stupid. It made me laugh though. The Thor fight wasn't humorous in the slightest

Yo, that armbar was ridiculous too. I didn't laugh at that either.

I don't care what anyone says, the first 6 issues were fun reads

First of all, the story that PAD wrote was good.

Second, he's explaining the whole Hulk being underwater forever thing in a way that makes sense.

I don't think so. The end of Planet Hulk and the beginning of World War Hulk shows Hulk surviving in space. Before David's adaptation angle, a critical weakness Hulk sported is that he required oxygen even with his increased lung capacity. I also remember a comic scan where Nick Fury was observing the Hulk gagging in space and dismissed any immediate danger, as he'd just adapt to the vacuum within a few more moments.

Don't know how I feel about all that. I personally prefer stories like Incredible Hulk: The End, so I'm not really certain if his ability to adapt is an interesting extension of his accelerated healing or just a gimmick to make him more ridiculously durable than he already is.

Meh. Personally, I think the Hulk just held his breath underwater. What's a couple of days to a guy with lungs as big as the Hulk's must be?

I remember the Ghost Rider knocking Hulk unconscious by burning up all the oxygen in his vicinity, so either Hulk was raging too hard to hold his breath or he has a very dynamic lung capacity.

well, to be fair, if he burned out all his oxygen that would include what's in his lungs and pretty much instant KO him.
