The link's to a short vid edit of the new trailer, using my fav track. It took all of ten whole minute to make and now I'm completely exausted. If you liked it, say so. If not, say nothing. (just kidding.)

He got the main theme dead on, but the othe stuff is just too plain jane for me. I mean, he is NO JOHN WILLIAMS. Johns score is epic. This is just plain. Johns score is sweeping and large. Ottmans stuff is Generic. It is the same for me as comparing Williams Jaws and Jaws 2 score to Jaws 3. Some themes are the same, and some themes are TV fare. And I even like a few of the newer themes in Jaws 3.
I am not blown away. Even when he does some of the gues, liek the kent farm theme, it is not grand. Comparing the Kent farm theme here and the kent farm theme in Williams score, there is no comparison. Williams is grandiose. Here it is just there but lacks the lustre. And I really thought Ottman's score would do for me what his stuff in Halloween H2O did. I mean that one blew me away, and I was cringing at a orchestral Carpenter score. Well actually an orchestral of Dan Wyman's score. Even though Carpenter takes full credit for his scores, I talked to both Dan Wyman in person and Allan Howarth on the phone and both told me they did the score and he just came in and whistled themes. Dan said that Carpenter tried to play the piano part when they where doing the main theme for Halloween in the studio, but he kept fing it up, and since they only had three days to score, after 30 mins. of john fing up, Debra Hill took him to lunch and Dan did the theme on his own while they were gone. He and Howarth said they also came up with new songs for most of the score.
But anyway, it Ottmans stuff, to me, is not as grand as Williams. Sorry, that is just what I feel. And it has nothing to do with my bias on the suit.

buggs0268 said:I know. They are just 30 second previews and the score may sound different. But if these are the 30 seconds they chose, usually it is the best of that track. It may be great, but from what I am hearing now, it is generic. I wish they could have just gotten Williams again for it as he is doing nothing right now till Indy 4 and the next Spielberg movie kicks in.
It is obvious Williams loves the score. He even wrote two new songs for Courage to use for the Superman 4 score. And he hasn't done it with any other sequel to a movie that he did the score for that he is not doing in the sequel. I think he said it is one of his favorites of his. It was the one that really grew on him.
and thanks for being honest rohitiyer and stating that you felt the same when you first heard it.

here's four more Superman score samples.

Now, tell me how indicative of the final score those 30 seconds were. Seriously. It's almost impossible to judge just how well the score OR the truncated soundtrack is going to sound, other than a superficial sort of estimate based on 30 second snippets.
Because I guarantee those 4 snippets I posted don't exactly do the Williams' score any justice. And it's not like I picked boring passages, either.
Yes, in my opinion they sound very generic to me. And reprise sounds great because it is just an exact redo of Williams score. the last track is the best for me.SpiderDaniel said:What? Listen to memories, saving the world and reprise. THEY ARE NO BLAND AT ALL!!!

Ottman's themes are never more than a few seconds long anyway...John Williams he is not.Cinemaman said:It is sad that we can hear onle some seconds from every theme![]()

From what we've heard of Ottman's score, it seems more respectful to the '78 score than Williams was to his own Star Wars material. But, I'm not the most educated score fan...
Williams is a far better composer than he was in the 70s. He apporached the prequels differently than the leitmotif method he used in the OT. The scores are much richer in texture. I think he said somewhere that he wanted the prequels to sound different than the OT, representing a different time in the SW timeline. I think the word I would use to describe the sound is "cleaner," I can't really say why...but it seems appropriate... Either way, Williams is a the best musical storyteller that film has ever known. It will take a lot for someone to achiece what he has musically... Ottman does not have the skill to even attempt such a feet. When ever Williams' themes chime in during his score for SR, it is so very clear that he is not as talented as Williams... Pick up the scores for Memoirs of a Geisha and Munich... Williams still has it.PSU442 said:has Williams really been living up to his hype lately??
