That's true. Sometimes I do forget about these other films. Damn, will ever stop releasing movies one on top of the other this year?

Yes it's quite a log jam this year! lol

Did you forget movies like Chuck and Larry, Hairspray, The Simpsons, Rush Hour 3 and Bourne Ultimatum are being released in the coming weeks. It would have to have some strong holds and legs to reach that.

I don't see Hairspray as a threat to Potter at all. Chuck & Larry will probably be a small anoyance to Potter's gross too. Not sure on RH3.

Spider-Man 3 has done some solid numbers. Are these better than the previous ones?

Weird, the BO numbers seem to be coming later than usual the last couple days. We should have the friday ones already.

It looks like Transformers, at the current path, will end somewhere between Shrek the third and Spidey 3 at the domestic BO. Very good for a launching franchise, but let´s see what people say about it a year from now - hey, people were enthusiastic about Armaggeddon when it came out too, now try to find people who claim to like it...

If people didn't like it, WOM would suck and so would the film's legs. Transformers is here to stay. HOWEVER, I think every nonTransformers fan that saw it at the movies had pretty low expectations for it, sense in all fairness the entire franchise was created 23 years ago to sell toys. So, that being said, the sequel needs to be an all around better film or it will not experience the same success as other sequels (like Spiderman 2, X-Men 2, etc.)

Anyways, Spiderman's numbers are safe and will be the box office king for third time.

Box Office Mojo has the weekend numbers up.

I don't know, Transformers are creepying up to SM3 domestically.

I'm still not sold it'll beat Spidey yet. It has a chance to beat Shrek 3 though. It really doesn't matter because the respective studios are happy. :)

Armaggeddon had good legs. That´s Michael Bay, he can make a movie that impresses at first, but eventually people come to their senses and realize it´s all style and no substance.

At one point Shrek The Third was creepying up too. It may get close, but beating it will be pretty difficult.

(I'm guessing tomorrow's B.O. #'s for Transformers to be about $2.6 mil)

Transformers vs. Spiderman 3

7 days: $165.3 vs. $182
14 days: $228.9 vs. $253.3
21 days: $265.5 vs $289.6

If we're talking about straight up percentages, Transformers has better legs than Spiderman 3, but it is not closing the gap because Spiderman started with $151 million after 3 days. If Transformers only drops 40% next weekend and has a very strong week, it'll either keep the same distance or will fall even farther behind Spiderman. Transformers will end up within a few million either side of Shrek.

Which is exactly why I said the sequel NEEDS to be an all around better movie, otherwise it will neither won't enjoy the same success as the original nor other sequels that were successful.

Nah, people who saw TF were into the action, that's all I've even hear about a Bay film, action. Actually that's all there is to say. Do people ever really give a damn about the characters in his films?

People care more when they are seeing the same characters again and again.

You speak the truth my good man. Armageddon and Transformers are pretty much the same beast.

Somebody give this fellow a golden star. :cwink:
