Apparently there is even more that they want to add.

Not to mention that Jackson is probably going to reshuffle the ending for "Unexpected Journey" and shoot more scenes for the third movie. Of course, when Jackson was shooting the LOTR trilogy he always had reshoots and pickup shots conducted for each film as it was being completed.

So this isn't really surprising.
