I too think Kili's kind of strange looking, but he's only 1 of 12 dwarves. I think we can get over it by now.
I can't. Maybe if they keep him on the flanks of a wide shot all the time. But you know they'll give him his close ups, and at that instant I will check out for a while, cursing and thinking "this fool ain't a dwarf".

Maybe it will be a running joke through the movie, with the other dwarves treating him like he's deformed or something, like Ephialtes in 300.

Probably. Though there is at least one other involving the Dwarf with the axe embedded on his head making him speak only the ancient Dwarvish tongue or something.

If you mean the one slightly above and to the left of Thorin, he's not that handsome. With a better haircut and a nose job however, :wow:

I mean the one in the top row, second from left. Since you can't see his body he looks like a human who has inexplicably wandered into the poster.

Hahah Kili look absolutely ridiculous.

On a more positive note, I really like Oin and Gloin.

It's pretty hilarious at this point how Kili doesn't look like a dwarf at all except for his height.

Rank the Dwarf designs.

Me:

Oin
Gloin
Bifur
Balin
Bombur
Dwalin
Thorin
Dori
Ori
Nori
Bofur
Fili

honestly does thorin look any less human than killi?

maybe his youth is throwing people off

they are'nt used to a younger dwarf all dwarfs have always been old

Yeah Thorin could have done with a bit of a longer beard. I don't understand arguments that you wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

This is conceptually difficult, but I think that Thorin looks no less human but more Dwarf like. The actor has naturally stronger, heavier features. With the dark brow, the raven-like wig and the (admittedly short) black beard, he does at least look other-wordly.

Kili looks like a kid from a high school Metal band. He can't even grow a beard. As others have said, he sticks out like a sore thumb. He looks too soft to be cast even as a battle-hardened human like Aragorn or Boromir- he would have been better cast as an Elf.

I can understand the thinking behind making one of the Dwarves more human in appearance and thus easier for audiences to relate to. But I think the design for Thorin does that adequately enough. Why go so much further with Kili?

I felt that Thorin looked very human-like, too, but it's probably because he hasn't got that "stoutness" that was what we got with Gimli, who was basically the only dwarf we saw for the last 8 hours of LOTR. So when one isn't kind of fat it looks weird.

I just watched the trailer again, and in the wide shot where Bombur catches the food with his mouth and the rest of the company celebrates his success, Kili looks distractingly out of place. He moves too swifly, like a drunk fratboy at a party; a Dwarf should have weight to his every gesture.

It's that damn manly stubble. The rest of the dwarves have some kind of goofy visual flair, even Thorin.

White streaks in your hair? That is so 1980s.

Lol I think it looks pretty badass on him, but I do see your point. Adds some age to his look since he's supposed to be oldest dwarf while Balin is second oldest. I still have trouble believing that, though. He just doesn't look that old.

I'd say Balin then Oin look the oldest, and by far older than Thorin. The designer streaks in his hair don't look 'goofy' to me.

Dwalin looks by far the most 'bad-ass', and Nori's star-hair is almost as bad (in a stylistic fashion) as Kili's undwarfness.
