They will make the date. I don't see why not. Consecutively for 14 months? That means they will finish filming Part 2 in May next year with a release of December 2013. Possibly this will take seven months? Seven for each? They should be finished by later this year with more than a year of post for Part 1. They're prepared. They've had so many months of pre production, and a crew and studio that could give them a country if they wanted to. Why in the hell can't they make this date?

It's not that, it's the amount of post-production time and 3D rendering that makes the delivery date questionable. (And then, weather issues and such in NZ could add delays.) I don't want to see a rushed film just to make the December 2012 date.

Conceivably, both Superman and Hobbit 1 could both be released in November and December (one in the pre-Thanksgiving slot, and the other a week before Christmas). But it's unlikely, and WB would like to focus on one big film. WB has to get Superman out in the late fall/Christmas 2012 date, no question about it.

What's so telling about the possible release date shifts? There's no firm release dates set at Box Office Mojo, for one.

They'll make the date. They have time, and if they're not shooting them at the same time, they'll at least be able to take a break and finish the film up on time and then get back to work on the sequel.

You know, I must say, I probably won't see this in 3d.

here starts the problem. in 2012 PJ should be focusing on post production and not on filming a movie for 2013.no matter how you turn this around PJ will not be 100% focused on Part 1 for december 2012. because he can not.

if i would be a LOTR fanatic i would pray that its delayed to summer 2013. because that would as a fan give me a 100% quality LOTR movie where PJ had enough time to finish.

IMO :woot:

Finally, dark_b has sense. Personally, I think The Hobbit- Part 1 could easily be pushed to the mid-July spot -- like July 12 or July 19, 2013 since WB hasn't locked in any 2013 release date yet.

I would gladly eat crow if both The Hobbit: Part 1 and Superman make their December 2012 releases.

I think both will. Both are being put on a fast track so they will make their deadlines.

The only thing that conflicts are Hobbit and Superman's release dates. They have more than a year on post production. That's alot of time.

seriously, why the hell are there so many discs for the extended edition blu-rays? couldnt they have just put each film on its own disc instead of dividing them up again like the regular dvd extended set? i was looking forward to them being contained on one disc much like king kongs bluray

well with the increased bit rate for the movie along with comentaries and such take up space so i understand that, but even if they aren't adding on new features, why not put the special features in standard def on blu ray discs rather than just repackaging old dvds? it seams rather lame bu not the first time I've seen it done.

Wouldn't it be outrageous if they gave Gandalf a beard down to his waist, like in the book?

I'd love it :awesome::up:.

I've made many posts on this topic in the Superman and Hobbit threads . I don't think that WB is going to allow Supes and Hobbit to be released in dec 2012 even though both movies can be made in that timeframe. It will be crunch time for WETA with 7 months of post but don't forget they've grown alot since ROTK. I doubt that Hobbit is as complex as Avatar ( they created the frikkin jungle from scratch).

You are right in saying that Hobbit can be released in July 2013 but i think WB will go for the december release. It worked with 3 LOTR movies so why take the risk when each Hobbit movie has the potential to hit 1 billion WW.
Plus while nothing is set in stone , it seems WB is looking at the summer 2013 date to release Pacific Rim.

Btw, slightly OT but what are your thoughts on the new War in the North game coming out?

Hobbit will not be realesed in the same month as Superman IMO

Superman can NOT be realesed in 2013.
it will not be in november

I thought The Hobbit will be released in Nov, while Superman in Dec. I don't see how that's not possible.

1) I wonder if Andy is glad he's not having to wear that awful green cat suit this time around.

2) Is it just me, or does the guy in the light blue shirt in the last pic look like Merry?!

I think the first unknown actor in the blue hoodie is Ryan Gage (Drogo).

As for the last guy, he could just be a crew member. He looks alot like Justin Timberlake - but that could be chalked up to the low-res quality.

Great to see Andy in the motion capture suit again. I'm guessing they're shooting some of the Misty Mountain stuff right now, I wonder how long it'll be before we see some goblins? :woot:

What's the difference between a Goblin and an Orc; aren't they the same thing but different terminology?

My impression is that goblins are smaller than orcs. I think another difference between them in the LOTR movies is that the goblins were green and the orcs were black. I think all of the beasties that were fought in Moria (in the movies, at least... it's been too long since I read the books) were goblins. They could scurry up those huge pillars and such, which I doubt an orc would be able to do.

Goblins live in caves, while Orcs live outside, I think thats another thing that differentiates them

I've never really thought about that before. But yeah....I guess so!

In the films? Pretty much what was stated above: goblins tended to be small, impish cave dwellers, while orcs appeared to be bigger and slightly more intelligent, as well as darker skinned.

In the books, however, goblins and orcs were pretty much interchangeable terms describing the same creature.
