Crud,

"Despite being a dead ringer for Thor, it seems like Alexander Skarsgård won't be wielding Mjolnir after all.

E! Online caught up with the True Blood
actor at the Paley Center for Media's 25th Annual TV Festival Monday night where he advised them that he believes he is no longer a candidate to play the lead in the Marvel movie.

Skarsgård met with Thor director Kenneth Branagh about the role and was reportedly a leading contender for the part, but that is apparently as far as it went for the Swedish actor. When asked about the possibility of playing the god of thunder, Skarsgård replied, "No, I don't think so. I haven't gotten the call, so..."

Marvel is reportedly interested in Josh Hartnett to play either Thor or Loki, but Skarsgård was among a group of relatively unknown foreign actors including Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Liam Hemsworth, and Joel Kinnaman -who had screen-tested for the film.

Skarsgård isn't the only actor who has ruled himself out of landing the role. Channing Tatum recently said that he thinks he's out of the running as well because the filmmakers are "looking for someone more Nordic-looking."

Alexander Skarsgård is Nordic looking and look what happened to him. No matter what I have abolute faith the Branagh will make the right choice, he is a very meticulous filmmaker, he will make sure it follows the source material to a T. He will make the movie right, it may take five more years, and be four hours long, but he will do good by the Odinson."

He didn't rule himself out for the role. I've seen three or four sites report that same quote that same way, and I'm wondering how some of these people think they're qualified to report "news"

I wouldn't go as far as saying Skars is a dead ringer tho, Vlad Kulich has that honor tho he's too old for Thor's part.

At least there's alist of who's tried out. We didn't even have that before.

Personally, I think he's a dead ringer :oldrazz: And we did have that list before, it was from Nikke Finke's site

But he gave a standard little non-denial/non-confirmation, so OF COURSE some of these "news" sites have to report he's definitely out of the running :whatever:

At this point I'm just waiting to hear who they choose, I'm a little tired of the will they/won't they game

That list surfaced a while back

Edit: Chewy beat me to it :oldrazz:

I love Taylor Kitsch to death like I love Josh Holloway...they're just not suited to play Thor...and Taylor is a total sweetheart with a really dry sense of humour, and Canadian to boot! lol. It's more Riggs, his character on FNL that can come off as arrogant. I mean...sure Taylor has the body, he's a certified personal trainer for Pete's sake, and he knows how to bulk himself up and it's evident in some of his Abercrombie modeling shots...but I just don't think he's the right guy for Thor.

I am amused that pretty much all my TV boyfriends have been mentioned in the casting thread though...too funny lol.

No no, its not his character, I worked with the guy and he seemed very popus and shallow. He may have just been having an off day at the time, but he didn't seem to care about anyone else but himself on set and was very rude an even kind of disrespectfull in some takes. Again it could have been an off day, but thats how he the person, NOT the character, struck me.

Yes, Alexander Skarsgard saying "No, I don't think so" about playing Thor is a bit disheartening. But I wouldn't lose all hope - or do I need to go find the quote where Mickey Rourke said "No, I don't think I'll be doing Iron Man 2" and threw us off the scent?

I'm 100% for Karl Urban. He's getting rave reviews for his performance in the new Star Trek movie, and he would be great as Thor. Anyone else still talking about him?

It really doesn't mean Skars's out. He may have to keep a lid on things OR they are just taking their time making a decision.

His statement is in no way a concrete no. If he said "no I am not doing this" then i would be worried. Someone saying "I don't think so" is in no way a no.

yeah that's pretty far from a 'no', I agree with marcvader...
unfortunately, I now also hate him for the 'Leo for Cap' thing, lol

hhmm...perhaps david wenham?

I'd really like him in this movie, Fandral perhaps but not for Thor.
