Damn. It sounded by the wording in the article that they'd chosen their Thor and would be making an announcement in the next month, and now they just needed to cast Loki, Odin and Sif. Either way, it's good to know this project is gonna get moving in the near future!

I'm curious about that "female lead" thing. They name Odin and Loki... why not name Sif? I wonder if something's changed regarding her in Branagh's rewrites.

Either that or Feige is just can't remember what the hell her name is.

Maybe for a bit, but Branagh is filming season 2 of Wallander this summer so I don't expect to hear much for a little while after this "casting news within the next month or so"

No, according to the article on the front page about the first quarter earnings conference call

I don't know... they said that no formal offers have been made to actors... but that doesn't mean they haven't chose their Thor. What makes me think like that is that normally all the supporting actors in a movie are cast based on their chemistry with the protagonist. And since they're already looking for Odin, Loki and Sif...

According to a local newspaper, Brad Pitt is the first choice to play Thor.

The other choices are: Alexander Skarsgård and Tom Hiddleston

Sorry if this is old.

Perhaps, but with Hemsworth saying he's reading for the part next week it's unlikely they have a solid choice. They probably have it narrowed down to just a few guys at this point if Feige expects announcements this month.

And if they are looking at "name" actor like Hartnett & Portman for Loki & Sif, it's unlikely that the chemistry with the lead will be the deciding factor,

Another thing to consider - if they are looking for an Odin, Branagh won't be taking on part himself

When/where did Hemsworth say he was reading for the part next week?

in the interview posted a page or two back

it's possible he was referring to this week, depending on when the interview was conducted

Yeah, I think this is the most likely scenario regarding the Thor casting.

I've read somewhere that in cases like this, they usually have a list of 3-4 "name" actors for each supporting role, and chose whoever has the best chemistry with the leading guy. I'm crossing my fingers hoping the same happens with Thor.

I know it's been discussed to death
but I just can't get past the Skars.
he's still my number 1 pick.

2. Hunnam
3. Hemsworth

I came in here to say something...but that gif distracted me :o
That promo is awesome.

Worst nightmare is true... Zack Penn still attached to Avengers... expect a cheezefest.

Does anybody remember that HUGE white guy from Gladiator? I haven't seen him in anything else, but if he can act beyond what they gave him in Gladiator, I think he would be an excellent choice.

^You mean the guy who starred as Conan on a TV show once as well as starred in the movie beerfest?

That was Ralf Moeller, and he is 50, now.

I'd take Moeller for Heimdall in a heartbeat. But yeah, he's too old for Thor.

Joking aside, you just know though that somebody at some point will see that pic of Mike O'Hearn and actually think he is a good choice for Thor.

And to them I will say nay.
