I've just heard on one of those "insider news" shows that there might be a BLACK 007 movie.

I would be willing to bet any amount of money that would never happen. besides, don't they have Daniel Craig locked down with that franchise for the forseeable future?

I think I'll just stick to my Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett Sherlock adventures.

I lost any interest I had in the Sherlock flick as soon as I found out that the deerstalker look had been ditched.

Yes, I really am that fickle. :o

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have thought of that then.

I thought it was just me.

RDJ won't have a problem with the accent. He can do a perfect Aussie accent and that seems to be a lot harder for Americans actors to do than English. :)

I liked his British accent in "Chaplin".

And I've read some reports about a Sherlock Holmes press conference in which he literally humiliated a journalist who asked if he was capable of doing that accent. On the top of that, he was speaking in a flawless British accent while answering to said journalist.

It's not Downey that I have misgivings about - he's awesome. I mean, give RDJ enough prep time, he'd own the role of Mother Teresa; if anything - it's Ritchie that makes me nervous.

I sincerely hope he has it in his locker to resist using all those trademark flashy camera tricks and edits, given the time period and setting.

Yeah, so far all I know about Guy Ritchie is that if you give him a contemporary cockney gangster caper - odds are he'll hit it out of the park.

I havent seen him do anything good that shows that he's capable of anything else. I havent seen much in the way of subtlety or restraint.

Not sure how many films Daniel's signed for. I'm Just saying there can be changes to the old ideas to keep them new.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, British and black.
But it will take many years before we'll see a black bond.
So, bets for who's gonna win the Thor role?

EXCLUSIVE: Kenneth Branagh Says ‘Thor’ Casting In ‘Final Stages,’ Addresses Decision Process

Published by Rick Marshall on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 11:17 am.

While there’s still some uncertainty about exactly when the Kenneth Branagh-directed “Thor” will be hitting theaters, there’s even less know about who will be wielding the mighty hammer Mjolnir on the big screen. There’s been no shortage of casting rumors and teases from various actors and “Thor” filmmakers, so when Branagh dropped by MTV to discuss his PBS miniseries “Wallander,” we had to throw in a few questions about that other little project on his plate.

“We’re down to the final stages of it,” Branagh told MTV News of the “Thor” casting timeline. “The reason one has to be properly diplomatic, is simply that some talented peopled have been patient, kind, creative and really committed to working with us in this process.”

“My reluctance to say anything about it is simply out of respect for people who have been extremely respectful of us,” continued Branagh. “That said, I think we are extremely close and I hope to announce a decision sooner rather than later.”

As for what qualities would make the perfect Thor, Branagh maintained his diplomatic stance, explaining that the must-have traits of the film’s title character were a group decision — a very big group’s decision, in fact.

“There’s a massive fan base out there of devotees, enthusiasts and real experts who have all the answers to that,” said Branagh. “All I can say is that I bare all of that in mind with my Thor education. I read a couple of comics across the years every day, I read the Norse legends and sagas, and [the lead role] needs to have something from all that’s great in the comics and the legends, and needs to live in our film universe.”

“It’s a whole series of things that I could list, but I’m not going to, because I’d have to kill you,” laughed Branagh.

Branagh offered a similarly appreciative, yet noncommittal response when asked if he was aware of some of the various online campaigns for the lead role — including the much-publicized petition for actor James Preston Rogers to play Marvel’s God of Thunder.

“I am aware of certain campaigns, and I think everyone is grateful for them and knows that there is a great anticipation,” said Branagh. “We have every intention of doing everything humanly possible to live up to that anticipation.”

Cool! I hope they announce the cast soon, for a lot of reasons. One of them is not having to read about James Preston Rogers and his campaign anymore. :cmad:

This guy's so desperate.

You can say that again. The Bond fanboys threw a hissy fit and made hate sites when they cast a white Englishman with blonde hair as Bond. How do you think they'd react to a black Bond?

I don't know, gotta admire the enthusiasm. Cast him as a berserker or something. :woot:

But then, they would send the message that these annoying campaigns work.

Just imagine how irritating it would be if every meathead started campaigning for every comic book film role... :woot:

Sometimes it feels like they are though; I mean, it's happening right now over in the Cap casting threads.

This one, unchecked, has the potential to be worse than the whole Ben Ryan debacle.
