I don't want Pitt either, but it is hard to turn down the idea of Pitt as Thor and McKidd as Loki.

My choice for if they go with a famous actor would be Gerard Butler.

If they're willing to go with relative unknowns, I'd like either Kevin McKidd or this guy, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (he's Danish) who I posted in the other Thor thread:

This guy reminds me of a young Sean Bean. That said, I like him for the role. More so than Pitt, even.

Though I'd probably also prefer someone else, I wouldn't mind Pitt all that much. Just found that pic of him and never knew he could get that buff.

Like I have said on Pitt:

For Thor, Pitt is a good choice. Maybe not the best choice, but not the worst by any means.

For Cap: He simply doesn't work for me as Cap. Pitt doesn't look young enough anymore. Why I prefer Matt Damon (he looks younger than he is, unlike Pitt anymore). I know this is a Thor casting thread, but his names comes up in the Cap one also.

Now, for Thor, Pitt's age is not a problem at all. Now, you'd have to do some work to make Pitt a towering presence in the film, but he works no less. Cap must have a younger look, however.

Pitt doesn't have to be huge to be Thor. I know in the comics he's 6'6, but Wolverine is 5'3 in the comics and Jackman is 6'1! Pitt is 6'1 so the other guys won't tower over him. Plus he's suppose to be stronger than the rest of them so it doesn't matter if he looks normal..................I just dont' want HHH to get the part which I honestly think is going to happen. I'd rather Tyler Mane get it than him, although Mane isn't a bad choice at all.

You're right. Thor doesn't have to be 6'6. However, he should be bigger than the other members of the Avengers and at least most of the Gods. Thus some work would have to go into making Pitt seem a bit bigger than he is. Thor needs a physical presence, and if Iron Man is bigger than him, I think that is not right. Thor doesn't have to be way bigger than them. Just bigger.

He just needs to be slightly taller. Thor wasn't towering over everyone in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance cinematics, and he still looked great.

I agree...like I said, not way bigger. Just bigger.

I seriously doubt ANY jackass from the world of professional wrestling is going to get the lead in a marquee film for Marvel. Not when they've got Norton as Banner, Downey Jr. as Stark and McConaughey rumored for Cap. Marvel is clearly going after big name talent that has actual acting talent. That's part of why I find the Pitt rumor actually somewhat believable. At any rate, Pitt could probably do Thor the justice he deserves from an acting perspective. Thor's always had this sort of tongue-in-cheek, dry sense of humor where he's sort of the hero AND the butt of the joke all at one time (at least when he's on Earth, anyway) and that's something that plays well into the type of humor Pitt's exhibited in a lot of his previous works.

I want Pitt to play Thor actually but rumor has it that it's coming down to Pitt and HHH. If Pitt says no, then there's no doubt HHH will say yes which is a mistake waiting to happen IMHO.

Wow...I hope he says yes in that case.

HHH as Thor = Worst movie, ever.

Though I hope that McConaughey as Cap thing also doesn't happen.

I have not heard the HHH rumor. At all. Where did you read this? I must know your source or I will burn your house down. And what the hell kind of a final list for Thor is Pitt OR HHH, anyway? That's a casting director who doesn't know what the hell he wants if ti's true.

I hope this isn't the case. I believe if Marvel actually offers Pitt the role, he'll take it. He's never really been offered something on the scale of Thor and Avengers. He's also getting older and only has so much time to do films like this.

Someone posted a link over in the Avengers casting thread I think. I'll find it just for you.

I found it. It was from a Pro-Wrestling rumor site. Is it any wonder that Variety hasn't jumped all over that hot scoop?

Well I'm hoping it's not true. What site reported about Pitt being offered the role? I just can't see HHH getting this. I'd so much rather Mckidd get it if the rumor is true.

Pitt as Thor and MM as Cap really isn't bad and I can see with the star power as well as fanbase, they can both do well at the BO. Especially the Thor movie.

There is a difference between Pitt and MM...talent :o

Please don't make MM Cap.

He's a strong actor. I liked him a lot in John Amsterdam. If he bulked up some, I could definitely see him as Thor.

I think Marvel has figured out that they need talented mainstream actors to serve as strong leads in their films because they not only bring actual acting chops to the table but a built-in mainstream audience of fans that may not be familiar with Marvel's properties but will go see just about whatever films those certain actors star in. Thus you get names like Pitt and McConaughey bandied about and, really, they aren't bad fits. I know that they have their detractors and often get type-cast, but both Pitt and McConaughey are both talented.

McConaughey has become more type-cast than Pitt, but his performances in "Frailty", "U-571", "Contact", "Amistad" and even "We Are Marshall" show he's capable of playing more than the pretty-boy goof-ball jock most people think of him as. No, he's not the most talented actor in the world, but he's by far not the worst either. I can see him doing Steve Rogers justice. I wouldn't be against Matt Damon, either, but I think he really is too short to play Cap. And Pitt has played every kind of character imaginable and I could really see him bringing Thor to life. Triple H's emotive range is somewhere between seething and angry from everything I've ever seen from him, and he's not a household name outside of wrestling pukes and people who have seen "Blade 3" (and let's face it, he was lame in that film). Marvel is not going to give one of their prized properties to a VERY amateur thespian who happens to have long blonde-hair and a steroid-pumped body. There's a lot at stake, and Thor is a pretty complex and complicated character to pull off believably. It's going to take someone with infinitely stronger acting chops that Triple H to do it. And, it's going to take someone with some star-power that will attract an audience to a film that the vast majority of the mainstream population will almost definitely overlook otherwise.

Nice post, Jag.

I agree completely; as far as MM goes - I don't understand some of the furvent resentment towards him that I've seen posted by some people. I'd also like to add 'Reign of Fire' into the mix of films were he's played agaisnt his 'rom-com' image. As I've posted before on the Cap casting thread -I think he'd be good as Cap; in my view, he has a lot of attributes that make him a superior choice than many that have been mentioned imo:-

But I digress, this is a Thor casting thread so;

In regards to Brad Pitt; Yeah, I could see him as Thor (especially if he got back into his 'Troy' shape - as seen in that pic posted previously) but truthfully, that's only because he's the best out of a poor/mediocre bunch of candidates - I mean, c'mon, ideally what we'd be looking for would be someone who has the face and body of Dolph Lundgren circa 1987 but can act to the standard that we, the fans, would expect for the role.

Trouble is, is there such a guy out there?

If not, Pitt's the man.

Playing Achilles in Troy definitely got Brad Pitt a lot of Thor-cred, and it's probably the main reason (along with his inherent star power) that he's reportedly a favorite by Marvel to play the big guy. But honestly, I don't think he was a very good choice for Achilles, let alone Thor. Achilles as a character was pretty well written, but Pitt didn't seem as interested in playing the guy as everyone else in the movie.

Anyway, I wanted to renew Karl Urban as my favorite choice for Thor:

Eomer_133.jpg

Of all the actors that look like Thor, I think he's the best actor among them. He's played exactly the kinds of roles that one would hope for from the actor who would play Big T (especially Eomer in LOTR), and he's played them better IMO than Pitt played Achilles.

Anyone else worried what celebrity baggage Brad Pitt would bring to the party? It seems to me that either he or Angelina are always one crazy liberal rant away from being in Tom Cruise territory. We all know what a bullet Marvel dodged when Tom Cruise turned down Iron Man. Pitt's a fine actor and a nice draw but the intangibles turn me off. Also, how much input and control would he want?

Is there any chance that Marvel is casting both Thor and Donald Blake as separate parts? That WWE rumor has me wondering. BTW, put me in the camp that HATES the idea of HHH as Thor. Cast him as any other character but keep wrestlers away from leads at all cost.

I'm in agreement that HHH wouldn't make a good Thor. However, maybe he could play a bad guy. There's got to be some brute in Thor's rogue's gallery, like Ulik or Executioner, that a wrestler like HHH would be suited for, right?
