Other than being a little skinny, Skarsgård face looks too feminine. Trim the facial, elongate the hair, make some bump in his chest you'd check him out like a girl.

For Scandinavian, I like Danish Nikolaj Coster Waldau of New Amsterdam better. A little shorter but more built, and his face is rugged like a Vike.

I don't think he look that feminine. His head is very square with fairly strong defined facial features. He does have a pretty long neck though, I think that's where he can look feminine. It's less pronounced in pictures where he has more weight on him.

I think anyone who is going to be thor, has to be believable as a rugged warrior, YET smooth enough to be a dr. There may have been ONLY 2 people who fit that profile, mckidd and urban maybe?

I like Josh Holloway for he role personally. He's a dead ringer for Ultimate Thor.

You're going to have trouble finding a dead ringer for 616 Thor; men who have 10 inch across jaws and are built like a tank are hard to find; and most cant act.

I'm on the Kevin McKidd boat myself. I think he's got the talent, and can do the physicality of it. Watch Dog Soldiers if you doubt it.

Ditch old Sean Bean and give Nikolaj a chance. The guy looks like a young Sean Bean and 3 inches taller.

There are people who are suggesting actors that only stand at around a mere 5'10" (or therabouts - certainly the wrong side of 6' anyways) as viable options to play Thor.

My I humbly suggest that these people get a clue.

I'm tired of the old 'they could use forced perspective like in Lord of the Rings to make him seem taller' twaddle - how about just simply cast a foreign unknown actor who's actually close to the height required? Why needlessly complicate things?

Then surround that 'unknown' lead with a well-known supporting cast..........


In that respect, Brian2887 - I applaud you for your suggestion of Alexander Skarsgård .

I've got no worries in terms of his build either - I don't think he'd have any problems buffing up (obviously he's not Thor size in this pic but he's certainly not the beanpole that he looks in the pics that Brian2887 posted) :-

He's not that purist... I remember him saying something about all these great stories being Universal, and adding that, after all, he was a northern irishman filming the most english stories (the shakespearean ones). Plus: in "Much Ado About Nothing" he had cast Denzel Washington as the prince, and Keanu Reeves as Denzel's brother. The amazing thing is that it worked. t:

Out of all the people that are on that poll, Sean Bean is the only one I would like to see as Thor. He's a really solid actor, but may be too old to fill the roll. Then again, Robert Downey Jr. was well in his 40's when he did Iron Man, so who knows.

Now that Kenneth Branagh is negotiating to direct, I have faith that a good actor will fill the roll.
