Snikt, since when was the size of the character a priority? Wolverine is supposed to be short, but Hugh Jackman is like 6 ft something. Physical stuff doesn't matter if the actor can properly embody the character. And Thor was portrayed as this massive, towering and intimidating figure, how boring would that be for a movie? Where's the human side that people are actually meant to relate to on some level? While I agee that physicality can be important, it isn't if it comes at the cost of depth of character.

And with the accent thing, I meant british or scottish because they seem to be the standard accent for Fantasy type movies, eg LOTR, Narnia. Could you imagine if Frodo had Elijah Wood's normal voice?

I don't care how they have Thor speaking. I agree the classic Thorspeak is nothing but fun when it comes to Thor bragging, and using a Scandinaivian accent makes sense, but, I hope he doesn't end up sounding like the Sweadish Chef from the Muppets.

What I've gathered from reading through the majority of posts in the thread, is that the only major concern for Thor is that he emulate characters from TROY and 300.

Nobody seems to care about the larger than life physical and mythological aspects of him or his Norse dialect.

As long as he's Brad Pitt, people are happy

I'd love to see Wolfgang Petersen do Thor. I was watching Perfect Storm the other day and the image of Thor hovering over that giant wave just popped in my head and I thought to myself, wow, Petersen should do Thor.

Wolfgang Petersen is the biggest hack in hollywood. The only movie of his I can stand is "Enemy Mine"

I hated TROY.

Such a generic and pretentious way to shoot a historical epic.

300 I enjoyed because of the mythological aspects it embraced.

The Immortals, The Giant, The Head Cutter, Xerxes' height.

I also liked the brutality The Spartans demonstrated.

The actual story is yes, a bit bleak.

I thought In The Line of Fire was very good.

Then again, anything with Clint is good.

Yeah, you're right, I guess I just got caught up in the moment when I was watching Perfect Storm and over reacted. I retract my suggestion for Petersen as Director.

It makes sense like that, I tend categorize movies the same. I just assume somebody doesn't like a movie if they say it's awful.

Well, if Dolph had a son with an incredibly talented actress, it's possible that the son would inherit some acting skills. Honestly, if you want your casting suggestion to have more credibility, perhaps you shouldn't call a notoriously bad actor "perfect 80's Thor". Yes, he would have looked the part, but his only good roles have pretty much been in Rocky IV where he barely spoke and Ultimate Soldier where he was entertainingly over-the-top and made to look good by playing against the always awful Van Damme.

Dan, You clearly know nothing about Dolph or his career; you merely seem content in believing a ridiculously outdated stereotypical reputation.

Jeez, after all these years - It still gets me that some people see Dolph as a bad actor. Sure, he's not going to win any baftas anytime soon but he's certainly a competant actor at the very least.

I suggest you watch 'Men of War' and 'Pentathlon'; it might change your somewhat closed minded viewpoint.

Dolph grew as an actor. Not great, but not bad either. If he was young, I could see him getting an audition.

Look, in all honestly, the fact that these discussions are suggesting oscar winning actors, wrestlers and 80's has beens (really dolph fans, lets me honest, his best work is behind him) and that there is no balance between casting suggestions, the best thing for Marvel to do would probably be to cast an unknown. Brannagh has done lots, and lots of theatre work. How many fantastic actors do you think are out there, perfect for Thor, who just haven't been given a shot yet? I'd just have faith. Marvel isn't going to screw it up when they have so much riding on this. Think how good Ray Stevenson is for MAX Punisher... Plus he's a great actor, if you've seen Rome. There are loads of people like that around.
