Official Thor Casting Thread

Hoping for some casting before comic Con..or at least a Branagh panel.

I still think Oded Fehr would make a great Hogun. He's from Israel, though. I'm not sure if that technically counts for the "Asian" look Marvel's supposedly looking for.

Visually he's fine, but I really don't find him too good an actor.

And as for the Asian look, does anyone else think that's going to confuse the average moviegoer. I mean, their' going to be ecpecting Norse gods, not Samurai. I'd go with Karl Urban, Jude Law (with a less expensive backup in Kevin McKidd), and Brendan Gleeson for the Warriors Three.

No, cause isnt that what hes supposed to be. An Asian who was allowed into Asgard (IIRC).

I know, but I'm talking about people who aren't familiar with the character. I would prefer as true to comic as possible (meaning a Mongolian looking actor) but I'm just not sure how audiences would react.

As for the other Asgardians, I've got Henry Cavill for Balder, Camilla Belle (tentatively) as Sif, Winona Ryder as Karnilla (imagine Abigail Williams with magical abilities), Tom Hardy for Skurge, Kiera Knightley for Amora (for much needed star power but with a cheap second being Elayna Anaya), -though I don't think those two are even in the script- and finally a semi-cameo from Sean Bean or (dare I hope) Russell Crowe as Heimdall. I view Heimdall's role as about as much screen time as the little troll-in-a-wheelbarrow from The Golden Army or Sir Godfrey (proof the famous guys play small roles) in Kingdom of Heaven. Important, but not interrupting the story. More star power can come in Miracle Max type roles. Sorry if any of these ideas are recycled (I know the Cavill one is, thanks for an awesome call...)

I know what u are talking about, but the whole idea that audiences might get confused is silly. Its more than likely completely new territory so why wouldnt they except Hogun the same way they except the rest of them.

I'm just thinking most of these characters will be white and Norse looking. I guess a few lines of dialogue could explain why there is an Asian god, but it might get confusing. Either way, Branagh knows what he's doing. He'll craft a good story with good characters.

I don't think they'd have to explain anything. The other Asgardians will treat him as an Asgardian, just as they do in the comics, so it'll be fine. People have wondered why Hogun looks different from the other Asgardians in the comics as well, but they have no trouble accepting him in spite of that. It's more a mild curiosity than any big deal breaker.

Okay scratch Elayna as Amora. I forgot how thick her accent was. I guess it doesn't matter though, as apparently the Enchantress won't be getting the big screen treatment.

I think it's more a question of him currently being out of shape for an action role than being too old. More trips to the gym for KB and less to the doughnut shop and we're in business.

There were casting calls for Hogun and Volstagg but I can't remember seeing one for Fandral. Maybe it's already been decided.

As far as Kenneth Branagh goes, I would love a cameo as Eitri, Brok, and/or Buri, the dwarves who create Mjolnir.

But i don't think they'll go that old on the Warrior's Three, unfortunately.... they would be good choices....

And sorry, but no Danny Huston for Heimdall! He already ruined stryker....
I know I'll probly get flamed for bringing him up, but I'd like to see Dwayne Johnson do Heimdall, with the cool starry eyes and whatnot, The Rock has a great voice that I hear Heimdall having.

It was just an idea, I think you need cool, big name actors filling out the smaller roles. If Heimdall isn't a large role, I wouldn't want Johnson, but if it's a glorified cameo, then I think he could pull it off no prob

I think he's a decent actor. I don't think he works particularly well as any Asgardian, but he's been entertaining in most of the movies I've seen with him. He's hilarious in Southland Tales.
