Got to give it to Marvel, hiring well known and reliable actors is a simple tactic, but also a fantastic tactic at that. What better way to get the audience watching something they are not familiar with than hiring actors that they are familiar with.

Rene Russo has joined the cast of Thor.

The Lethal Weapon and Ransom actress will reportedly play Frigga, the step-mother of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the wife of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), according to Variety.

IGN Movies has also confirmed that Joseph Gatt has indeed been cast in Thor, as have Troy Brenna ("Avilas" in Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Josh Coxx (Lt. David Corwin in Babylon 5). Unfortunately, we've not been able to confirm their roles, although IMDb claims that Brenna will play "Kale."

We've learned that Gatt, Coxx, Brenna, Ray Stevenson, Jaimie Alexander and Stuart Townsend are currently in stunt training for Thor, which begins filming in January.

Yeah, it's not like she shows up in Thor's everyday activities, she's more tied in to specific storylines and/or events and could be featured in sequels. The same goes for Enchantress and Executioner
