I don't mind Thor being less powerful, but if he's still holding the Odinpower, it doesn't make much sense. I guess I'll have to stick with my fanwank explanation that the final Ragnarok and the desolation of the Asgard dimension has left it significantly weakened.

It would make sense why Thor's weakened. since all Odin's power flowed through ALL things in Asgard. Empty out Asgard and you don't have too much energy.
Wonder if the Odinsleep bed would even help?

When Odin died Thor got all his power. Who, if anyone, gets Bor's power? Someone like Vidar, showing up with all that power and a claim to the throne would really stir things up.

No Thor already had SOME of the Odin force BEFORE Odin died. Odin gave Thor some of the Odin Force to help heal broken bones Thor had.
Thor had to heal in this vat of mystic fluid and couldn't leave. Surtur attacked Earth, Tarene as the Desginate, boosted the healing factor with her powers, then went to earth to Help fight Surtur with Thor. Tarene boosted ODIN's power with the rest of HER power to kill Surtur.
Odin Died with Thor still HAVING the Odin Force Odin had given him to heal.
Thor lost the Odin Force for what happened in the Reigning arcs. THOR had to go through the same Trails Odin did to REGAIN the Odin Force which now technically is the THOR Force.

So if either Balder or Vidar WANT the Odin/Thor force they'd have to go through the trials to gain the use and KNOWLEDGE to control it. Which couldn't happen since Thor gave both his eyes in the trials where Odin gave ONE, either Balder or Vidar would have to give THREE of their eyes....they don't have three eyes.

The Odin force basically died when Odin's Asgard was sucked into the void at the end of Ragnarok, leaving Thor with his OWN version which has yet to be truely explored like Odin had done.

BOR's power is supposed to be even OLDER than the Odin Force, an ELDER energy we don't know too much about except that it's more powerful according to Thor. We don't really know if Bor's power can be gained like the Odin/Thor force.

I like the idea tho. Balder already has the ruling hand of Asgard without the OF. so it could be interesting if Vidar does show up what kind of fight would happen. Tho Vidar was more or less a farmer than a warrior like his brothers.

The Odinpower was created in the first place by the death of Odin's older brothers Vili and Ve. When they died their power passed to Odin, creating the Odinpower. This means that already possessing part of the power isn't necessary only blood relation. Vidar was powerful enough to hold his own against Thor and his enchanted staff withstood Mjolnir.

See what happened was AFTER Odin Died, Odin talked the Odin Force into allowing Thor to control the Odin force he already had since it was already in him, and the Odin Force agreed. After what happened in the Reigning Arcs I really doubt that the Odin/Thor Force will be passed so simply again.
I can see Thor choosing someone to use it while he's banished much like when Odin did while he was in an Odinsleep, both Balder and Sif had use of the Odin Force in case of an emergency, so it's not an issue of Blood relation since Sif was in Charge.

Then again, it's now the THOR Force, who knows if all the old rules apply in the first place. lol

I have no doubt Vidar is a worthy warrior, but he chose to farm over being a warrior. He died during Ragnarok in his Fields.

I just finished reading The Trial of Thor. Pretty good. The story wasn't anything groundbreaking, but Milligan handled the various character dynamics well, I'd say. I think Milligan could perhaps do well on a worthier Thor project - perhaps some kind of mini-series rather than a random one-shot.

Yeah I liked Trial of Thor. It just seemed to end rather quickly.

Odin didn't do too well by Vidar. He didn't tell anyone about him. Thor, heir to the throne, had to find out from Vidar himself after a chance encounter. Vidar wouldn't have a great deal of loyalty to people he didn't even really know. Besides he was half giant and may have had more relatives on the opposing side.

well in the Trial of Thor Vidar seemed to be VERY simple minded, but in Blood oath he was the complete opposite, he hated the Giant in that story.

this week is going to go SLOOOOW.
I'm HOPING nothing else delays 602, or Diamond don't mess up.

Doesn't matter to me anymore. I've long since given up trying to keep track of Thor's comics. If one of them shows up in my file when I go to the shop, great. If not, whatever.

Yes but, I'm really wanting to know what happens to Sif.
I pointed out on another board we don't no for SURE the panel FOLLOWING the one that LOOKS like Thor's taking off doesn't have Thor falling flat on his face because the lack of powers.

Review of Thor #602:

Really, at this stage an issue being filler that doesn't move the story forward is pretty much the cardinal sin. Having transitional issues like this is alright when you're running on a monthly schedule, bur people shouldn't have to wait 2 months for set-up for the next issue. Let's hope the comic is more substantial than this review suggests.

I wonder how many people who've never read Thor are gonna be like, "wtf, Loki's a dude now?!" in another couple months when this catches on with Loki's appearances elsewhere. :D

I'm kind of sad that happened off-panel.

I was initially skeptical of the whole thing but they won me over, especially because he looked so blasted sinister in female form.

Oh well.

I am still waiting for my issue of Thor. It is great being subscribed to a comic you never get....

OH HELA YES!!!!! 602 ROCKED to ME.

LADY SIF IS BACK!!!!Yes yes yes!
I'm loving the idea of Thor and Mjolnir being bond even more. If you think about it, Thor has more control over Mjolnir's enchantments, tho they're both more fragile now.
Looks to me that JMS is planning on making Bill into a new Thalifi. Bill giving alot of advice to Balder and receiving Kelda's Spear it just seems that Bill's becoming the Mortal advisor to the Asgardians.

And thus was Thor's powerset restored to status quo, freeing the writer from having to make a pretense of him having the Odinpower.

Seriously? That sucks. :( If the book starts to tank when he's gone, I'm dropping it. :down
