Lesnar (as much as I love him) would not beat Fedor in his prime. Not a chance. Some can claim that his status by many as GOAT is disputed by the level of his competition, but he's still one of the best pound-for-pound fighters ever. Lesnar hasn't shown that he can hang with that.

Agreed.

How quickly some fans forget. Yeah, Fedor's final years were very underwhelming but when he was in his prime he was unstoppable. His left hook was ridiculously fast. If there ever was a gif or clip that could perfectly capture Emelianenko's intimidation, it would be that moment in the Fedor-Crocop bout where Mirko was attempting to mow down Fedor by pushing forward after connecting with a straight right. After looking wobbly for a second, Fedor responded by throwing that infamous hook (barely missing Mirko). That look Cro Cop had on his face as he was falling back to avoid it was priceless. He legitimately appeared to have pissed his trunks.

Let's not play MMAth, shall we?

By the time Fedor got to Silva and Hendo, he wasn't the same guy. Fedor's hand speed and chin were deteriorating by every match. I think that became painfully obvious against Brett Rodgers and even Andrei Arlvoski. Prime Fedor would absolutely wreck Lesnar. One clean shot is all it would take. In 2005, no HW on the planet possessed the hand speed that Emelianenko displayed. Fedor could throw three long looping hooks (haymakers) in 1.5 seconds. Keep in mind, these were really heavy punches and he still launched them with such velocity. Come on man, Velasquez's striking is extremely sharp but he never came close to Fedor's speed and you expect me to believe that garbage? Bruh... not a chance. If Cain could overwhelm Brock with punches in bunches then Lesnar stood no chance against the GOAT in his prime.

It's not MMAth, MMAth would be like saying Lesnar beat Mir, Mir beat Silva, Silva beat Fedor therefore Lesnar > Fedor.

What I'm talking about is that Fedor struggled immensely to deal with a skilled fighter fighter that had similar size & power to that of Lesnar, Fedor was completely smothered & overpowered by Silva in the clinch & on the ground. It's a fair assessment to say that if Fedor could be overwhelmed by someone like Silva then Lesnar more than likely would have been able to do the same given that Lesnar was far better at smothering people than Silva is.

One good clean shot is all it would take, that is completely correct & is the case for every fighter... including Lesnar. Lesnar wasn't exactly what you'd call slow himself, his power punches were deceptively explosively quick (for someone of his size) & as you'd expect when a guy that weighs probably about 275lbs on fight night, if they connect they aren't going to tickle you. Fedor was hardly what you'd call defensively sound in terms of his striking, looking wreckless sometimes in his persuit. If Lesnar had fought Fedor in 2009 when they were supposed to fight, it would have been Lesnar vs Mir like match all over again. Fedor's only chance would have been to catch Lesnar coming in as Velasquez did or to pull off of a miracle submission from the bottom like Mir did in their first bout.

The argument that Fedor wasn't in his prime when he started taking beatings doesn't wash, he fought Arlovski, Rogers, Werdum etc between 2008-2011. Fedor only would have been between 30-33.. that's still young for a fighter & your prime years as a fighter, especially for one as experienced as Fedor should be between 30-35. He would have had the perfect balance of physical ability combined with experience & confidence. The problem was he was no longer fighting donkeys & freakshow fights, he was getting thrown in with fighters that were actually still competitive & more evolved. Once he'd left Pride if he'd been fighting the calibre of opponent he should have been fighting for his fanboys to continue calling him GOAT, he'd have lost sooner & retired sooner.

Randy was in his mid 40s when he fought Brock.

Randy was still pretty decent even in his mid-40's. He was never a fighter that should have been fighting at HW but got away with it simply because there was nobody on the UFC's HW roster that really could have stopped him at the time he moved up to face Sylvia.

Even when Randy retired after the loss to Machida, there are probably still a handful of LHW contenders he still could have given a good fight to.

Randy's kinda like Dan Henderson, seems ageless.

Alright fellas, get ready for an embarrassing/hilarious story...

So, I'm a member of the Forum on MMAJunkie.com, and we have a game we like to play called "Last One Standing."

When the game begins, everyone has 3 picks, and we each pick 3 fighters from the closest UFC event who we believe are going to win. For every fighter you picked that lost, you lose that number of picks for the next UFC event, and once you've lost all 3 of your picks, you're eliminated from the game. The game will go on until a single forum member has outlasted all the others, and won the game.

So, leading up to the Bigfoot/Mir event last Sunday, there were 37 competitors still in the game (including myself). Some guys still had all 3 of their picks, some had 2 picks left, and the rest (including myself) had 1 pick left. Nearly every single one of the 37 competitors picked Alcantara and or Khabilov, while I was the only one who picked Sam Alvey...

In one night, the entire field was whittled down from 37 to 2 competitors; Me and JesusChrysler2000.

So, Jesus and I agreed that the main event of Rousey VS Zingano would decide the winner between the two of us, and he let me have the first pick...

I went with Cat Zingano, and it blew up in my face like a cartoon bomb. Jesus won, and now a new game begins.

And by the way, I honestly haven't closed the book on the possibility of Cat Zingano beating Ronda Rousey, but that book has certainly become a few chapters shorter.

I don't feel like Cat came into this fight with a bad strategy so much as I feel like she used an unwise technique to start that strategy off. A flying knee is a serious close-proximity technique, and when Cat's feet returned to the ground, she was in the perfect range for Ronda to Judo throw her. Granted, Cat was doing a good job counter grappling in regards to position, but she forgot to watch where she left her arm, and Ronda capitalized.

Had Cat decided to start off with a rangier technique, like a superwoman punch, or a flying front kick or flying side kick, Cat could have potentially returned to the ground within a safer distance between herself and Ronda. Cat's feet could have landed at a distance that was close enough for her to establish a Muy Thai clinch, but far away enough that Ronda would at least have to extend herself in order to use her Judo effectively. And then, this fight could very well have played out A LOT differently than it did.

But, nevertheless, Ronda Rousey is a ****ing beast, and she could very well surprise some of the men, if given the opportunity.

It's never going to happen, and rightfully so...

Rousey: I'll never fight a man
"It's not a reality," Rousey said. "They're not gonna do anything like that. Fights are chaotic. Anything can happen. And there's no setting in which we should condone a man hitting a woman."
UFC president Dana White joked about Rousey fighting a man before and after Rousey's 14-second destruction of Cat Zingano at UFC 184 on Saturday in Los Angeles. But that's all it was -- a joke.

Even if he were serious, Rousey (11-0) would absolutely not be down for it.

"I really just don't think that any athletic commission on Earth would ever condone something like that," Rousey said. "Fights are going to go both ways. You're going to see both people hitting each other. I don't think we should celebrate a man hitting a woman in any kind of setting."

The fact that people are having this debate is playing right into the UFC and Rousey's hands. Mission accomplished.

Fedor Emelianenko on female fighters: 'MMA is for men. It’s a man sport'

By: Brent Brookhouse March 10, 2015 1:00 pm

Fedor Emelianenko’s legacy as one of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA is cemented. He may well be the last fighter who was able to establish his greatness without ever setting foot in the UFC.

But his conservative take on women’s MMA could have an impact on the way Emelianenko (34-4) is thought of by a new generation of fans who didn’t see him dominate the heavyweight division during his days in PRIDE. Emelianenko ran roughshod on the heavyweight division from 2001-2009 with a 28-fight unbeaten streak.

During a lengthy interview with WHOATV, the MMA legend was asked about UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. He explained through an interpreter that he doesn’t support women competing in the sport that made him a star.

“He saw her fight,” Fedor’s interpreter said. “She has really interesting fights. Maybe a little bit of improvement to striking, but he doesn’t support women’s MMA.”

Rousey has become one of the biggest stars in the sport while dominating challengers in the UFC, a promotion which company president Dana White once famously said would never play host to women athletes.

Emelianenko offered up a cringeworthy explanation of his objection to women’s MMA while bringing a physical aspect to his criticism.

“Women shouldn’t compete in UFC/MMA because this sport is for men,” Emelianenko said through his interpreter. “There are a lot of sports where women look like women – like gymnastics, water sports, maybe some athletics.

“He’s telling that women shouldn’t fight. MMA is for men. It’s a man sport.”

Throw in that Fedor is a personal friend with Putin, and you have a real candidate for the Republican Presidential nominee in 2016.

He has a wikipedia page, and he has repotedly been stabbed once, and was saved from being shot thanks to his ballistic vest.

I think he's doing his hero thing for all the right reasons, but he knows he can't keep being a hero if his income didn't allow him to do it. Hence why he's going public.

He was probably thinking, "What I do is unique, and there are people out there who would happily pay to hear my story (ESPN). Once my story is out there, someone might pick me up (in this case, WSOF), and I can start making more money to invest in a Phoenix Nest. I can move out of the realm of Peter Parker, and move closer to the realm of Bruce Wayne."

Yeah, the Sports Center video on him in the link I posted was pretty cool. He seems like a really great guy...and a really good fighter too, so I hope he does well. I wonder if he'll walk out in his mask.

Apparently the latest PPV did north of 600,000 buys. I think it's fair to say that Rousey is a mega star, because that card on paper was terrible.

She's definitely really popular. I just wonder if her super quick finishes might hurt her future PPV buys. Especially on cards like that one where she's really the only name. I know a lot of people who said they'll be skipping the next one she's on and just watch the replay since it was only 14 seconds long and most of her other fights are under a minute.

I didn't know people were doubting her star power. The people I know want to see her fight Cyborg, or Leila Ali since she called her out and said no woman alive can beat her. She'd beat both IMO.

I though Cat would have put up a better fight.

She's never fighting Ali and they both know it so its safe to talk trash. It is interesting that she now refuses to fight Cyborg though. I personally can't stand her. Why not fight the judokas who beat you in the olympics if we're playing the cross sports call outs?

Oh I know it'll never happen but I'd like to see it. And she should fight them. The fight with Cyborg will happen sooner or later IMO.

Leila called out Ronda, not the other way.

Carla got fustigated.

When did RR refuse to fight her?

At least that one chick won tonight. Was hoping she would. Hope she gets her wish of being on the same poster as Jon Jones in the future. Two JJ's on one poster.

So happy the women finally have a striker wearing a belt, not named Cyborg, who can defend takedowns, and deliver a serious ass whooping on the feet!

Hooray Joanna!

Looks like Bethe Correia won the Ronda Rousey sweepstakes... There's a little drama in this fight too with Bethe beating two of the four Horsewomen and calling out Ronda both times. And it's in Brazil.

My biggest concern about this is that the event is in Brazil... in the SUMMER!

How many times this past Winter did the UFC go to Brazil, and the arenas got as hot as 102 degrees?

Now granted, I understand that this is the HSBC Arena in Rio, and not some low-class arena in a dumpy part of Brazil where air conditioning is too expensive to install. Still though, I'm nervous that the heat is gonna become a serious safety concern, so hopefully the HSBC's ventilation system is inspected from top to bottom by fight week.
