How the heck do you think you can go toe to toe with a boxer and not come out second best?

When you start to beleive your own hyps and say that youve improved your standup so much in interviews that you start to beleive it's improved more than it has, I guess. And if her corner from yesterday is to be believed, the possibility of people in her camp being other than yes men who tell her that everything is great and not tell her a few home truths cannot be discounted. Just like with Tyson and Buster Douglas. Ronda now needs to reevaluate her camp and her training.

That shows you how deficient she really is. A solid striker beat her badly. How many times can you walk into a left hand? Once the TD didn't work, she was done. Still think Cyborg mauls her.
Then how deficient is Holly Holm? She barely beat her previous opponents in less than impressive fights.

I wouldn't go that far, Holm was just vastly different style wise than Rouseys last 3 opponents, Id say

success breeds some form of complacency and I think that's what happened here

I think Rousey's mother was the only one who didn't think it was going great, by criticizing her coach. Maybe now she will listen to her mother and get a new coach, as well as learn some good sportsmanship and touch gloves the next time she's in a match.

I think Ronda's corner needs to shoulder some of the blame, I mean if the gameplan her corner came up for her to nullify Holly's striking advantage was to move forward in straight lines trying to constantly pressure her then she should seriously consider taking her bags & moving to another camp.

You don't just try to march forward, in straight lines, against even a mildly experienced boxer/kickboxer in an attempt to pressure them & certainly not one who's fought at the level of Holm. Footwork & movement are pretty much kickboxing/boxing 101, to have a gameplan that relies on the other person not having good footwork is ignorance on either her, her camp or both's part given that Holm is a former world female boxing champion.

I could agree, maybe the thinking was since Rousey has taken shots before, but none of her previous opponents were professional punchers, that trying to power through it would work

can we stop acting like sportsmanship will win or lose fights?

I dont think anyone is acting like that; its just nice to see from a sportsperson. Its that little difference between being a **** everyone hates and being someone a person can root for.

Give me someone whos good but doesnt make a big deal out of it over someone whos good but acts like a **** because theyre good any day. Alot of people are over the moon that Rousey not only got beat but that she had her ass handed to her. Why? Because of the ungracious way she conducts herself sometimes. Its basically as simple as that.

Rousey already predicted how Holm will fight, even down to the kick to the head part. The fact that she still fell into Holm's trap and played predictably is beyond me.

I love how salty the Rousey fans are. They are legitimately pissed and attacking the opposition. Honestly, s*** happens. People love to see someone fail, especially one that hasn't made it easy for the majority of people to love her. Look how hard she tried to play the villain role leading up to this fight and that pseudo-beef at the weigh-in.

Now Rousey will return to Earth and we will either see the phoenix rise from the ashes or see her career burn in flames.

She should've gone "Full Ali" and predict the round, time and the type of win she would get.

Pretty big upset. Don't think Rousey showed Holm's striking anywhere near the level of respect it deserved, she was pressing forward in straight lines as if she was fighting one of her previous opponents who don't have the level of striking experience as Holm. It would have been fine if she'd been trying to close the distance quickly to force a clinch, but moving in straight lines against someone coming from the sort of boxing & kickboxing backround Holm has is a massive no, no.

Holly Holm did fantastically though, she controlled the range & distance completely, there were 2 clinching exchanges & she did get put down by Ronda but luckily managed to wriggle away as she was working for position, the 2nd time Holm put Ronda down.

The deciding factor in the fight wasn't that Holly Holm is the hardest puncher or kicker Ronda has ever faced, I mean she probably is, but the thing that decided it was Holm's movement & control of range, something you'd expect from someone coming from a striking backround.

I'm not really sure what sort of gameplan Ronda came in with, but I thought she'd have done things the Jon Jones/GSP way & did things smart by trying to get Holm out of her comfort zone & when she did close the distance rather than try to take Holm's head off with a haymaker, try to force a trip or a clinch.

Best thing that could have happened for the womens division, I thought Ronda would have just taken her down & eventually submitted her, but through perhaps some arrogance she tried to fight Holy at her game & she has been taught a lesson.

See, this kind of comment I think shows some insight -rather than Ronda simply got on the wrong end of karma. Nicely put dude.

Do you think RR will come back from this ? I agree that it's good for the division, (and I'm an RR fan, although full credit to Holm for making Ronda fight her fight - a great gameplan, worked perfectly) because having a champion who's too dominant effectively kills off the up and coming competition.

One of GSP's great moments was losing to Serra, and having to rethink his gameplan - hope RR can do the same. I think that the one thing that is perhaps even greater than an undefeated champion, is the champ who wins, defends, eventually loses and then regains their title - an enormous test of character.

As for Holm, she reminded me a little of Chuck Liddell, in terms of her ability to keep things standing up, and unload (albeit with a kick rather than a punch). Good on her !

It's mind boggling how she could predict exactly what would happen, and still lose.

Happened in Bisping v Henderson after the Ultimate Fighter. Bisping was told by his camp not to circle right towards Henderson's power hand, and instead did just that and....POW ! After the fight Bisping was gracious and admitted his mistake.

Hopefully Ronda will show some grace in defeat !

This!

I swear i've seen many ufc folks talk smack about boxing, but it's still superior when it comes to foot movement and skill. Wolfe would have had a field day with Rousey back in the day.

Very deficient. There are no real well rounded fighters in Women's MMA. Heck, there have been very few in Men's MMA, and they have been around quite a bit longer and have much better athletes.

The more I watch Holm interviewed the more I like her. So much class and humility. She the type of champion people will like and frankly is a better roll model to women than what Ronda is.

Holm's forced here. She hit Ronda early, this stunned Ronda, who then looked for TDs on multiple occasions. She got one, but Holm's stayed calm and got up. Holm's actually put Ronda on her back.

Ronda did not respond well to be hitting. She gassed very quickly. She can't take punishment. She reacted exactly like how Brock reacted. Some people just can't take a good shot at all. They get flustered.

Ronda being a crappy person is the fans fault. The fact that Rousey disappeared last night was so predictable.

its fighting, and someone always loses

I think Rousey comes back, I think there are many who are hoping for her to pull a Michael Spinks who walked away from boxing after Tyson beat his ass

she got knocked out and had her face split open, so I assume she was getting treated

Dana White even bought that up when reporters got snippy about her not being at the post fight

I am hoping she comes back because I still want to see Cyborg rip her in half. Though as more time goes by, the less likely that is.

She went to the hospital. Apparently she is fine. Plenty of people are knocked out and get worse done to them in MMA and Boxing and still talk to the media afterwards. There was no way she was going to talk to the media.

Those that talk the most before the fight are the ones who have nothing to say after they lose. It was just like Broner shaking his way to the back after Maidana beat him down.
