Weidman out of UFC 184. This fight's never going to happen is it?

UFC 183 a.k.a. See Nick Diaz get DESTROYED tonight!

So Diaz didn't exactly get knocked the f*** out like I wished, but he still lost. I'm a happy camper.

And the Spider is back. It's looking good for him. I'm happy for the man.

Anderson is a great counter fighter, but at his age he can't really press. Weidman would beat him again, easily imo.

Don't understand Nick Diaz at all. He tried to lure Anderson into coming to him instead of him attacking Anderson, but I don't really understand why because he isn't really renowned for having the type of power to drop someone & basically fighting a counter puncher fight. He's renowned for being a volume striker & pressuring guys with a constant barrage of strikes. Which is actually something Anderson is more likely to be susceptible to as it's been shown against Sonnen & Weidman that when he isn't given time & is smothered it takes longer for him to get into any sort of a groove.

But Nick taunted him, didn't close the distance, gave Anderson loads of time to pick his shots & loosen up. As a result Anderson pretty much chose when the engagements took place & ended up coming off better in 90% of the exchanges.

Then both Nick and Nate Diaz shook their heads as if the decision was a bad one, which was just laughable. You don't win fights by taunting, you win them by landing punches, the visible damage alone on Nick's leg, ribs and face was enough to tell you who was winning the exchanges.

Fight was killed I feel by Nick trying to fight a fight I don't feel he's suited to, he had a much stronger chance of being able to hurt Anderson by pressuring him, that would have come with equal risk though of Anderson actually landing something of substance that could have hurt him.

That was great seeing Silva so emotional when he won. This could be the perfect time for him to retire, and it sounded like he's considering it. Diaz did better than expected, but that's because he didn't give Silva anything to counter which made it a chess match.

I hope Silva takes the Belfort fight at UFC 184, but it most likely won't happen.

When Rogen was interviewing him, he had the audacity to say he should have won. This post is exactly why I can't stand Diaz. His brother, too.

I was thinking that as well, by the sounds of things if this wasn't his last fight, it sounds like it's going to be one of his last.

Is Weidman ducking Belfort? I'd heard he was out the other day of the fight this month & only stopped to think, isn't this like the 2nd or 3rd time he's pulled out of a fight with him?

I highly doubt Anderson would take the Belfort fight on 4 weeks notice given the history between the 2, but he didn't take any damage tonight against Diaz other than from the verbal damage Diaz was dishing out.. he perhaps has ear ache but that's about it.

Yeah I saw, absolutely no clue why he felt he won or why his corner would even tell him the fight was close. Nick's only substantial offense was that leg kick he kept throwing & the verbal barrage, aside from that Anderson was peppering him with shots.

There is no question Anderson won that fight, every round. Anderson took limited risks, but was landing & was hurting Diaz hense why he wasn't took keen to try to walk him down.

Weidman is clearly ducking Vitor. Dude will have the shortest reign in UFC history.

I'd like to see Vitor tear his ass up honestly (Weidman).

Nick can overwhelm smaller guys. He isn't going to overwhelm Anderson because he doesn't have the power to do it. Anderson would let him hit him clean in the exchanges because it didn't bother him. So he wanted to avoid being countered. Nick didn't really have many avenues to victory here. He was never going to outstrike Anderson. Nick was happy to not be stopped and then claim victory afterwards.

Unless Vitor is still on the juice, I can't see that happening. Weidman is kind of built to beat a guy like Vitor. Great chin, understands range, and can wear you down with his grappling. My money would be on Weidman staying out of range for a round or two, clinching against the fence, and wearing down a juiceless Vitor, before finishing him

I can't tell if you are serious or not. :woot:

Lackluster fight by all accounts to be honest. Silva took virtually no risks but this bout was more of a comeback fight. Diaz is a career welterweight fighter. In addition, he doesn't possess knockout power. So I never saw this one going to Nick but you gotta respect his boxing. Going into the third round, Diaz and Silva were neck to neck in significant strikes landed, and Nick's striking efficiency was 11% higher.

Diaz should have attacked more but he gave Anderson way too much cushion.

Vitor's camp explanation for why he is afraid to fight Machida are hilarious. They were begging for a Interim title match, but as soon as they heard the Dragon's name, suddenly they wanted to wait for Weidman. :funny:

While I'd agree that I don't feel he could have overwhelmed or pressured an elusive and elite striker as Anderson, I still feel it would have been a far better chance for him to win than to try to lure Anderson into a boxing brawl considering he doesn't have the power to KO welterweights reliably nevermind someone like Anderson whom has a strong chin.

It was a very hypocritical performance I felt from Nick, he took no chances at all which is kinda why he disliked the GSP & Condit fights, because they took no chances with him. He should have taken a risk and tried to cut Anderson off & try to land several strikes, even if he didn't finish him, he'd have still scored points.

I agree it was a hypocritical performance and I think he was fine with it. His biggest concern was not being finished. If he gets finished, he can't claim victory afterwards at all. Even though he comfortably lost tonight, he could still spout his BS about the judges screwing him.

Well, it would be the quickest way for Silva to get a title fight again no? 2 wins = Silva vs. Weidman III.

He might think it was a morale victory simply because he is part of an elite band of people Silva has fought & defeated in the UFC, but not finished. Don't quote me but I'm near positive the only other people he hasn't finished were 1 dimensional grapplers who didn't have the confidence to even attack Anderson.. thus nullifying his counter punching ability completely meaning they basically got the same sort of beating that Nick got in which they just got peppered with strikes the whole bout.

Nick wasted an excellent chance last night, I think he played it far too safe. It takes balls to get in the cage & even bigger ones to get in against the greatest of all time, but he had a rare opportunity that no other fighter has yet to have, he has fought 3 of the greatest fighters not only of his generation, but of all time in BJ Penn, GSP & Anderson Silva & I can't help but feel like he just threw it away in terms of cementing is legacy.

He was probably just happy with the paycheck & didn't want to get seriously hurt.

I don't think Silva will ever fight for the title again. The only way I can see Silva vs Weidman III is if when he actually finally faces Vitor, 2016 at this rate, Vitor beats Weidman.

I'd love to see Silva fight GSP, if GSP returns for 1 more fight & Anderson plans to only have 1 more fight, I'd love to see them go at it. Both of them were #1 & #2 pound for pound fighters in the world for so long it almost feels a shame that, that fight never happened.

You're probably right.

GSP isn't coming back for that. I probably wouldn't either.

About halfway through the 5th round, Silva started to look like himself again. Glad he got the rust off. His next fight should be great from start to finish.

This is exactly right. Nick doesn't really want to fight anymore. He's said so himself. Unless it's for lots of $$$. He got to do that last night and he'll probably get to do it again because he didn't get finished. Personally I'm hoping no one wants to see this clown fight again after another boring phoned in performance.

So here's the situation with Weidman:

Weidman tore some cartilage in his ribs during a wrestling practice, but was willing to be a tough guy, and push through the injury to fight Vitor. Somebody with the authority to prevent him from competing enacted that authority, and told him he's benched.

Now, as for Vitor, we all know he's ****ing nuts. He wants an Interim Title fight, Machida gets the offer, and Vitor says "Hell no! Anybody but the karate guy!"

The moral of this story though is that Weidman isn't ducking Vitor, he's just very injury prone right now, and needs to get his **** together.

Mousasi offered to fight Vitor too. Vitor now says he doesn't want to fight for the Interim belt, but he'll fight anyone for the real belt :whatever:
