Comics Official YOUNG X-MEN Discussion Thread

I loved the Mags from Legacy. I wish he had stayed like that but then they went and made him a villian again in UXM 500. That appearance kind of confused me. I almost forgot about this one

I still say the Magneto in Uncanny #500 is a robot.

I decided to take a look at this book's sales from July-November. It turns out the Marvel ongoings that sold worse than Young X-Men (not counting separate imprints like MAX or Icon, or books that have already been cancelled) were Captain Britain, Ms. Marvel, Nova, and Punisher War Journal.

Also, despite sales usually sticking around 40,000, sales dropped big time in November to 30,000. Of course, every comic saw a huge dip in sales around October/November.

I guess they really did only cancel this because of the upcoming New Mutants series following X-Infernus. But if DC can pull off both Titans and Teen Titans, why not Marvel with New Mutants and Young X-Men?

probably because the entire cast of New Mutants is currently featured as the cast of Young X-men. But I agree. If Wolverine can now support 4 solo books, plus the 4 team books that he does, why can't the young'uns keep their one and only title?

The words Mary Sue and Marty Stu get thrown around alot, and most times the people using them don't even know what the terms mean, but Ink has officially become a character for which the word was created.

A new character incorporated into a long standing franchise that often up shows characters not created by his writer. Of course, the only quality of a Marty Stu he doesn't have is that, everyone likes him.

Well, there are lots of Mary Sues in Marvel exist forever, can't hurt to have one more as far as Marvel's concerned.

It's not that Marvel cares that I'm completely anti-Mary Sues/Marty Stus anyway.

But that terms get thrown away far too often with characters that ARE NOT Mary Sues. Mary Sues/Marty Stu is a term for only a NEW character put into an established universe that outshines all pre-exisiting characters.

When characters like say Storm, Jean, and Sue Storm get overpowered, they are simply overpowered, the Mary Sue/Marty Stu term can NOT apply to them, cause they for the most part were pre-established before their upage in power by the writer. That's just bad handling of a character.

All we need is proof that Ink is a self-insertion of the author, and we can officially call him the worst x-character ever conceived. I can easily see him becoming one of the characters future writers forget about entirely, like Gaia or Lifeguard.

or Adam X, the Xtreme, or Penance, or the St. Croi Twins, Risque, Blink, Morph, Mondo, Skin, Synch..ok...pretty much the entire cast of Generation X aside from Jubilee, M, Chamber and Husk...Jesse Bedlam,

Synch and Skin are dead. Skin died like he was a redshirt during Austen's run... :csad:

If you're talking about Exiles Blink, didn't she settle on some alternate universe somewhere when Claremont took over the book?

the point is, they are all characters that only got any good use out of the people that created them. after that, they were either written poorly, discarded or well, killed.

Don't add them to my list, then. I mentioned Lifeguard.

they qualify...so i added them. deal with it

oh and Lifeguard was awesome. her brother, not so much

Young X-Men #10 will arrive in stores on Jan. 21 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Marc Guggenheim, with art by Ben Oliver and a cover by Billy Tan.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"You think you know everything there is to know about Young X-Men? Think again. One shocker has been brewing since #1 and the pot peaks with #10. A landmark issue of Young X-Men."

Young X-Men #10 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99.

An all-powerful character and a retcon character?

Okay, Guggenheim. Where's your self-insertion, hm? Who did you model after yourself? It's practically the only remaining trope of fan fiction writing.

Is “Young X-Men” being canceled? If so, will there be somewhere else where we can see the characters?

Nick Lowe: “Young X-Men” is ending with #12. The previous answer deals with this question!

Previous answer(s)(I'm not sure which one he means:

John Barber: Hellion appears in “X-Force” #13. He might not ever appear anywhere again…

Nick Lowe: There aren’t any solid plans right now, but I’ve heard some inklings from our writers.

This is not looking good for the kids

Messiah War in general is shaping up to make me very angry.

Are they seriously going to kill Hellion? WTF

How are the X-Men supposed to run a school with no students? Do creators just hate legacy in general?

Well, the X-Men aren't running a school anymore. The Young X-Men are just a squad led by Dani & Bobby that probably gets private tutoring.

so...what power does the eye tattoo give Ink?
