Endgame Okoye - Danai Gurira

I wonder if she will become an honorary Avenger or become a permanent one

I hope the Dora Milaje continue to feature where possible in the MCU with Okoye leading them.

Did you all see that "controversy" with the poster? She's not a main character, that was totally blown out of proportion.

I agree with John Campea on this: If we go to the movie and it turns out she’s in 45 minutes of screen time, then yeah, then there’s an argument to be made about why wasn’t she on the poster. But for now, she’s lucky to have made it onto the poster at all. And she could be in 5 minutes of the movie. We don’t know.

Ya, makes sense. I am just going off of the IW poster - I mean come on, can anyone really argue that she was more important to that movie than Ebony Maw was, yet she was on the poster and he wasn't.

The point was everyone featured on their poster had their name above the title except her. It was a legitimate callout as clearly they thought she was important enough to put on the poster.

And she didn't have her name on there because she's not a main character. But then the PC police showed up.

I understand that. I believe John Campea said that it has more to do with contract negotiations than anything else.

You’re missing the point that everyone else who had their face on the poster had their name listed above the title. It’s not about being PC.

I was just surprised she's on the poster at all. I know that a lot of the characters on the IW poster didn't have big roles (Wong, Shuri, etc.) but the point of that poster was to squeeze every character that they could on there to emphasize the fact that it was the biggest undertaking Marvel Studios had done (at that point, at least). The Endgame poster is keeping it simpler with the original six, plus the other important characters like Rhodey, Rocket, Nebula, Scott, Carol, and Thanos of course. Okoye could have a significant role to play, but out of all the characters on the poster, she's the only one we haven't seen in any trailer or TV spot. She may not have a big part in this, especially since T'Challa isn't around (for most of the movie, at least).

Plus I think Shuri's not on this because the Russos want to hide whatever it is she get up to in this movie, for those wondering why Okoye is the Wakandan representative instead of Shuri. But yes, like others said, having Okoye on the poster but leaving Danai Gurira's name off the list (when everyone else on the poster was named) was a mistake that was rightly called out and addressed. It happened so quickly that I didn't realize there was much if any fanfare to begin with.

The outrage was way overblown and Marvel quickly corrected it. Its crazy how something so small gets insanely taken out of proportion. Her face was on the poster just not her name. The fact she was featured on the poster at all when most would consider her role minor is high praise.

I don’t think anyone was outraged in the sense that they think Marvel is racist. Most likely what happened is that her image was a last minute add when they realized there was no BP reference and they forgot to add the name at the same time. Definitely not a nefarious plot.

Well she is in the new trailer, albeit in the flashback to T'Challa's death.

I concur. But why even have her on the poster then? Clearly used to promote the film to folks who were explicitly only BP fans.

Awkward situation for Danai, but she got credited so it'll only boost her career more.

was it really outrage? Some folks are saying it was, but I sense just a few rabid fans make a Ruckus and others deemed it controversial and Marvel moved in to make all nice.
