I know I may get flak for this but I have to say it... Reed is a great character, but his powers suck. They're easily the worst thing about him and no matter how good the effects are, they will always look ridiculous in live action.

The other way for me. He has great powers (watch Elastigirl in the Incredibles movies) but he sucks as a character.

Are Fox even going to bother to make that Dr Doom film now? And what about all the other planned X-Men films like Gambit or X-Force?

There's no chance they will be able to get it made before Disney completes the Fox purchase. If Marvel wants to have a go at it then they might retain Hawley and get him to tweak it for the MCU.

Hell, they can't even get the New Mutants movie done. That was supposed to be out by now.

If we want our favorite picks to be chosen, why not use fanart and send it to Marvel? It worked for Joe What’s-His-Face as Slade.

Jon Kraksinki as MCU Reed Richards.

What do you think about Payton Reed wanting to direct fantastic four? I couldn’t be happier to be honest. At first I thought it might be artistic inbreeding if he does more than one marvel property but he showed in Antman and the wasp he can handle big science and silver age concepts while at the same time not being afraid of smaltzy family moments done right

You can tell from interviews that Reed is a fan of the material and I do appreciate his passion but nothing from what I’ve seen from him makes me believe he’ll be able to make a great FF film. He could make a good one or at the very least an okay one(better than anything we’ve gotten before) but not a fantastic film(pun intended)about the first family.

I'm mixed. I haven't seen him do anything quite like the FF before, and I think he's a good, not great, director.

But I love his enthusiasm, and I do think he has the basic tools. And his experience working in this genre and working with Marvel (and knowing some of the artists, special effects people effects people and their strengths etc. is very useful) gives him an advantage over other directors.

With Feige and Marvel behind him, and a solid script, I'm confident he could make a film that pays proper tribute to the FF.

Bottom line, I feel better about him than 80% of the directors they're likely to be considering.

If Peter Jackson steps up and says "I really want to do this!" well then I'd have to go that way, but between Reed and the journeyman directors they're likely to be considering, I'll take Reed.

The thing with Marvel directors is they don’t hire amazing, big-name directors. They turn nobodies into amazing big-name directors. Nearly every other Marvel director made a bigger leap going from their previous effort to their Marvel film than Reed would be making going from Ant-Man and the Wasp to Fantastic Four.

I can think of directors I would rather have than Reed, but those directors don’t want it and won’t be considered.

If I compare Reed to the no-name that’s likely to do it if he doesn’t, I have a lot more reason to trust Reed than that no-name.

Bottom line - I don’t know how they do it, but Marvel has shown that whoever they hire will do a very good job working within the Marvel structure.

So I’m behind Director X no matter who Director X actually is. If it’s Reed, great. If it’s someone else, I trust the choice.

Maybe they'll get Scott Buck. He can make a big leap from his low budget efforts with no costumes and barely any use of powers to something that is big budget. Maybe working on a big movie will turn him into an amazing big-name director. :woot:

Scott Buck is clearly the best choice.

Maybe they’ll get Kevin James as Reed Richards as well.

Et tu, Detective Conan? I expect this sort of behavior from Dark Raven.

:funny:

See I would love to see peter do a comic book film but I’m not sure if this is the perfect one for him. Maybe because I don’t want an FF film that’s eight hours long lol

Peter has already stated that he’s not interested in doing a CBM, so we can cross that off the list.

What if they were both black?

What's the point in that? What's the storytelling reason behind it? I don't really see a need to change the race of the characters when there are plenty of black superheroes yet to be introduced in the MCU anyway.

You know who would be fun to see on screen?

Terrax the tamer. I reckon he would be a really fun memorable villain who would really show off all the FF’s powers

Exactly, and this is why I want to be careful not to cross Peyton Reed off the list too quickly.

It's easy to say: "I don't want Peyton Reed. I want Peter Jackson or David Fincher or Guillermo del Toro."

But those directors won't want to work with Marvel and Marvel won't want to work with them.

So the real question becomes: "Do you want Peyton Reed, or do you want a director you've never heard of who so far has directed an indie coming-of-age film and a B horror movie?"

From that perspective, Reed brings a lot to the table.

1. He has shown he can direct a medium-large budget film with fantastical elements.

2. He has shown he can translate some of the most potentially laughable comic-book elements to the big screen without them being cheesy.

3. He has worked within the Marvel framework.

4. He knows people at Marvel. He knows management and he knows the special effects people, design artists etc. If he needs to get something done, he knows who to talk to and he knows who he wants on his team.

5. He has shown a real knowledge of and enthusiasm for the FF.

With those pros go one big con: The general light comedic tone of Ant-Man is not what I want from FF.

But Reed has said he wants a tone closer to Avengers. I don't think he'll cast someone like Paul Rudd for Reed, so I'm willing to make that leap of faith and hand him the keys - with the idea that Feige and others at Marvel will be helping him and backing him up and making sure he doesn't go off course.

I don't do much fan casting but I was thinking of Christoph Waltz and thought he could make a cool Doctor Doom, thoughts?

I think he was already Blofeld. It's kinda like asking for James Earl Jones dubbing a dude in Renaissance plate armor.

He didn't impress me as Blofeld at all. I don't want him as Doom. Get someone else.

Also, I think he appeared even shorter than Daniel Craig, and it's not like Craig is even a tall guy. We don't need Doom looking so short.
