Old MCU Fantastic Four Discussion Thread

Moving on, I doubt we’ll see Doom in this universe. It’ll probably be like how we won’t see Osborn in this since he’s been used in 2 reboots by now. Super Skrull would be my pick, given his personal history with the team, since he did murder the Storm’s father in cold blood. Would be redundant since we’re getting a Skrull villain in CM but I don’t care.

That would be the dumbest thing to do in the world. He's Marvel's most prominent villain, and everyone wants a good version of him. They'd be foolish not to use him. Now, if you want to debate whether he should be in the 1st FF movie, we can have that discussion. But to say we won't get him at all? Foolish.

Seriously I cant tell you how many greatest villains of all time list I've seen and doom was at the top every time. Fox was sitting on a goldmine of a character but were too inept to know what to do with him. On a side note, with the news about marvel giving characters a limited series. Maybe we can get doom In that fashion instead of his own movie.

I'm wondering if this deal goes through, will Magneto somehow be worked into the Scarlet Witch show also. But I love this idea you pitched

I have to wonder if this was what HBarnill meant, because the literal reading seems sort of crazy.

And I don't want Doom in the first film - not because of the Fox failures, but because I would like to see them build to that. I wouldn't mind a reference or introduction to Doom in the first film, but I don't want him to be the primary villain.

Ironically I had posted a similar idea in the xmen yesterday but for a wolverine series on hulu.

My initial idea (revised)
Well I'd stick it on hulu since the Disney service will be all family content. And It could seriously work that way for a number of marvel characters, Especially ones that can skate by on a lower budget like magneto, gambit, or multiple man, shadow cat or nightcrawler to name a few.

For wolverine I'd give it a decent sized budget and use the CGI as sparingly as possible. And because I'd make it an anthology thats connected and I'd pepper in wolverine villains in different seasons. Saving that big budget for the characters who need it like omega red or lady deathstrike. I'd have him wear his brown costume in some seasons and in others just flannels. I'd devote one season specifically to a comic accurate horror inspired weapon x origin where wolverine is the monster in the shadows hunting down Dr. Cornelius. I'd have one for his Japan era. One in the old west or maybe during the civil war heck The cold war can feature omega red.
Each season would have a new director that could bring the appropriate tone. I'd set it in different decades and all and over the world. I'd limit the seasons to maybe 6 to 8 hour long episodes so the story is direct and to the point. And so the actor isnt completely consumed by the show and he could pop up in xmen movies or his own stuff.

But I know its a pipe dream lol

The Fantastic Four need a cartoon.

The brand is tainted and Marvel needs to rebuild it back up again after Fox almost destroyed it. Before the film there should be a cartoon, a good one, that brings interest back into the property. It alone won't guarantee a films success, but it would go a long way in regaining interest. The team should also appear in video games, that's another place to regain interest. They don't have to get their own game before the film, but they should appear in other Marvel games.

Marvel needs to work on highlighting the property when they get the rights back. Really push the Fantastic Four property and get rid of the stink the Fox films created. The new comic should only be the beginning of what's to come.

I'm sure as soon as it's possible they'll guest star in one of Disney's running cartoon series. Then they'll have toys again, and maybe their own cartoon after a while.

Okay. I don’t know about all that. I was thinking Fury giving Latveria a passing reference.

Yeah, I have to agree with this. Doom will be the Loki of the next MCU phases.

I reckon Damien Chazelle would be a good choice to direct F4. Especially after the latest trailer for First Man. Dont know if he would do it tho. He seems more like one of those directors who wouldn't do a comicbook movie because its not artsy enough.

Oh yeah that would be heaps of fun! He’s such a good director and he knows how to make the heart soar. I wonder if he would be interested?

He’s expressed disinterest but he’d nail Mr. Fantastic’s more a-hole qualities.

Plus imagine Reed Richards and Tony Stark meeting

All of Marvel's heroes need and deserve great cartoons, but they won't be done justice under Jeph Loeb's reign. Marvel animation under Loeb has deliberately focused on attracting the 2 to 6-year-old male demographic, to the detriment of storytelling and characterization. Loeb stated that the serialized nature of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes made that show too complex for the toy-craving boys he hoped to attract, so he replaced it with dumbed-down programming despite its success. He's likely to do the same with any new Marvel cartoons if he's allowed free rein to develop them.

It's really ironic that the "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" tagline has been repeatedly referenced in the Avengers films. It makes the loss of the show sting just a little more each time.

Mole Man has never been one of my favorites. If the villain is not going to be Doom, then I would prefer someone like Annihulus. Heck, you can tie him and Blastaar into the Quantum Realm somehow. Same can be done for Psycho-Man. I don't hate Mole Man, I am just sort of indifferent to him.

I think Annihilus is too big for a first film though. Psycho Man definitely would tie into the Quantum Realm though, because he was part of the Microverse. Mole Man would be a suitable villain because it gives them a cool world to explore, is very classic, and allows more of the focus on the four and the family dynamics. With Annihilus and Blaastar, there seems to be too much to set up.

Not really. You easily can make a movie revolving around them. Off the top of my head, Reed makes a gizmo that opens up the Negative Zone from the Quantum Realm, these two escape and cause chaos fighting each other. FF fight them. Maybe even the 2 team-up later to steal Reed's gizmo to unleash their friends. Fairly easy to do. That's just 1 route they can go with it.

Mole Man just seems like a villain that they could easily feature in the first film. Annihilus/Negative Zone/Blaastarr are something that should be saved in sequels in my opinion.

I feel like Annihilus would be a pretty easy character to do if you just change the origin to have them go to the negative zone instead of space.

Inter-dimensional travel is an establish element anyways.

I love Annihilus as a villain, but I'm a little concerned with Ahhihilus (and/or Blastaar) as the first villain because I think it would be making a similar mistake to the one made in Man of Steel: The FF would be defending the world from a threat they, themselves were really responsible for.

Though if the story is less about a threat to the Earth from Annihilus and primarily an exploration adventure in the Negative Zone, that could work. But then if the FF are only saving themselves from the threats of the Negative Zone, they won't have really established themselves as "heroes".

Perhaps an alternative is to have some sort of threat coming from the Negative Zone before Reed gets involved, so that his opening of a portal is required to save the Earth as opposed to him endangering the world playing with things he doesn't understand.
