Speaking of Mole Man, which I would love to see done with a serious effort like Marvel does, how would you guys like subterranea handled?
I think a good option would be to have some sort of underground portals that lead to another dimension/planet, rather than a literal Hollow Earth interpretation.

Rick Hoffman for Moleman

No, they can be done. It just takes some imagination and creativity, and not adopting that kind of attitude, which is exactly what Fox did with the likes of Kinberg or Story. It's also what all the FFINO defenders did.

The last film was no good exactly because of all the changes made to them, particularly the last one with Trank and Kinberg. The Story films were better than the 2015 effort but lacked good writing and the right director. The 1994 film lacked the budget and was from a time when comic movies were not even considered worthy material for a proper big screen adaptation. There was never any intention of releasing it anyway. These films were made not because there was any real passion but simply to retain the rights. That's what happens when that is your primary driving force instead of actually making a good movie.

It's easy to make blanket statements that none of them were good for one reason that they can't be adapted and are too cheesy, when there are many other factors for each individual time these films were made that you need to take into account.

The Incredibles could be considered cheesy. Audiences loved them. That's what happens when you think the FF can't work and make all kinds of changes, and then someone else comes along and does the very thing that people love the FF for.

THIS. Imagine if the only Batman movies were the Adam West one, Batman and Robin, and BvS. By that poster’s logic a good Batman movie just wouldn’t be possible.

The 2015 movie had one of the biggest director self-destructs behind the scenes in history. The Story movies are from that era of execs not getting exactly why people love the characters - the era of Elektra, Ben Affleck Daredevil, etc. And if you consider the Roger Corman FF a real movie, time to reconsider what side you’re on.

Watch Ant-Man and Wasp. Janet is a scientist in that movie. I have seen Big Hero 6. But you analysis still doesn't address my question: where is the drama in the FF? Big Hero 6 is not the FF. The FF won't be students at a smart school. So again, related to the property we're actually talking about...where is the drama?

She could have a healthy work-home balance and be wanting to go home with Reed after or see Johnny or whatever, while Reed wants to stay in the lab all night to the point of half the time literally forgetting to sleep. Easy to say “oh she loves science too, she’d be into it” but not all passions are equal and if Reed’s passion is an obsession it could hurt his personal life. Day after day of that over years?

Or they could take from some real comics - they’re both doing some sort of science. Sue’s got the standard ethics of a modern scientist, Reed’s the one constantly pushing it into unethical, almost mad scientist points. Not cause he’s evil, just so focused on the scientific results. Like an old school scientist back in the days just not caring about ethics - see Stanford Prison Experiment.

Reed’s the guy in the comics who coldly put his son in a coma despite Sue’s screams cause purely on paper it was slightly advantageous. Reed’s the guy who gets the F4 exposed to something that’s slowly killing them Iron Man 2-style, but goes “I’m so confident I can figure out a cure that I’m not even going to tell them they’re sick.”

And obviously he should show to be a loving husband and a true hero, but this stuff is all true-to-comics, Sue could be a scientist and could absolutely have drama.

Sooooo, now that it seems that his schedule has been freed up, how about Henry Cavill for Reed Richards?:D

Heck no. We don't need yet another uncharismatic superhero performance. I don't think he's a good enough actor. He could've elevated Superman despite the writing but he's been pretty bland. Just watch everyone overshadow him. Next to someone like Lily James or Seth Rogen, Cavill would fade into the background.

I think, similar to Ioan Gruffudd in FF, it's not his acting ability but the writing and the way he's being told to play it. I remember Cavill from The Tudors, and I thought he was pretty good in that.

Cavill has a **** ton of charisma in the Man From Uncle. His Superman is not his fault, but Zack Snyder's. He would be a great choice for Reed

I wouldn't be surprised if they just avoid Subterranea all together. Make him a handler for monsters from other planets and dimensions connected by SWORD. He learns to communicate with them. When they're ordered to be destroyed or otherwise harmed, he leads them on a revenge fueled rampage to freedom, not letting anyone stand in the way of creating a new home.

That Thing statue on the couch looks better than any Thing design from the Fox Fantastic Four movies.

Sort of unfair to compare a statue to something that has to move. But I do hope we get something resembling that in live action.

Well he looks pretty good as Reed there.

Well I guess there is TMFU. That was a bad movie though. Really boring, but Cavill was decent in his scenes as Napoleon Solo.

But if he were picked for Bond, then probably Reed would be out. He probably doesn't want to be in another comic property after Superman.

I don't want portals, I quite like the idea of this uprising waiting to happen underground.

I wish fancasts stopped choosing 30 year olds for Johnny...

Anyway, I hope HERBIE is a part of the film as the teams ai robot.
