Best white house attack movie since Air Force One and one of the few really gritty movie of this sort that carries a lot of weight, it's a really dark and foreboding movie - but given it's content, that's the way it's supposed to be.

Man Lockout was so much fun. I wish it got a sequel. I had a blast watching it. But yeah there was a CG car/bike chase, which was just terrible. Im surprised they even let it in the theater

hollywood is (successfully) testing how fake looking cgi they can have in movies. and they are winning. more and more people are getting used to the cheap fake looking effects. they are not caring anymore. the ticket is the same yet the movie looks bad.

you would like to have a r rated action movie? than make it a small scale movie.

It's not that I'm getting used to it. It's just that I see about two to three new movies a week in theaters (this week is way more than that -- FOUR in theaters and this sometimes happens about eight times in any year or more), and an additional thirty movies a month from the library PLUS three to four hours of TV a day or more AND then there's pirating viewing online. That rather than jump up and down screaming, "worst effects ever!" I have a much broader palette to judge off of, which isn't a dis. It's just, I see people leaping up and down to conclusions on films that are in the very middle of the scale as being the absolute worst. That tells me chances are high they didn't see the films with effects under that moderate area.

The CGI didn't bother me at all. And for those who say it's the "worst effects ever" in a movie like this - seriously - go watch 'Lockout.' Effects have never really bothered me unless it looked like a Playstation 1 video game. Out of the millions of movies I've seen - in terms of effects, I'd say it was moderate. They weren't bad at all, they weren't great, they were serviceable or in the middle range of all of the movies out there.

Nah youre way too forgiving. It's pretty bad though Lockout's CG was amusing. But I think it's due to transforming Louisana into the Capitol. I think they underestimated the time and budget to handle something like that and the rest of the CG had to suffer.

That being said this is fun schlocky movie.

I don't see myself as forgiving because I put it in the 'moderate' zone (I'd say 5-6.5/10), whereas others who clearly haven't seen as much would think "omg worst effects ever!" because they haven't seen that much. So due to their rather limited viewing, they would jump to that conclusion - "worst ever" when it's really just the worst that they have seen. Whereas someone who has seen more would see that as being kind of screwy wherein the effects are 'moderate' compared to everything else. They're also rather typical for the budget and kind of film. Again, not a dis, since I'm not the 'average' person in any sort of means in those regards since I see practically everything as a requirement for what I do. So, to those who have seen a thousand - it could be. But, when there's literally millions out there, to those who have seen a million or more it levels out the playing field more.

You're bad CGI!

Seriously, I rarely go 'worst ever' but yes, I'm very adamant and stubborn about this one film. Again, I still enjoy the crap out of it and I understand it's a lower budget film.

As said, to me whenever anyone says that it just goes to show how little they've seen - in comparison to what's out there overall - but, then again the number I have seen isn't the norm at all. The normal movie goer doesn't see as much as I have seen, because I even watch poor movies to see what they've done wrong - I have to keep up with everything for my field, so they probably would have that view towards certain films. Not saying your opinion is wrong, it's just among the worst that you've personally seen. What I'm saying is compared to the millions out there, it's moderate. That's not saying good or bad, but middle of the line and serviceable.

You can lay the blame at Millenium Films here. They have an effects studio that specializes in cheap ass rush jobs.

Just finished watching this and WOW what a movie this was! I can't for the life of me figure out why this movie didn't do better because this is one relentless, action-packed film. I could perhaps see how maybe this was too dark for some people because there are some really really dark moments in this film but all in all I thought this was an excellent "Die Hard in the White House" kind of flick.

Yes, the CG is pretty bad but the movie is so damn gripping that you really don't even care. Gerard Butler is BADASS in this and Aaron Eckhert plays the best president since ID4 and the actor who plays the main terrorist is one evil s.o.b. This is what I want and expect in action films and again, I really don't understand what problem the critics had with this; I'm thinking this was just way too intense for them because they do NOT pull punches in this but in the end it all pays off and the good guys win. Yes, its not original and we've seen this kind of thing before but these days its not what you do its how you execute it and this was executed incredibly well imo.

Awesome summer flick! :)

(P.S. I'm now dreading to watch White House Down)

I finally saw this over the weekend and I loved it. I guess I wasn't expecting much because it seemed to come and go quickly in the theaters and there didn't seem to be a lot of hype around it. I'm really surprised it didn't do better.

It was a fun, cheesy action flick just like I enjoy. Sometimes it's fun to watch a movie and be able to shut off the critical thinking part of my brain.

It actually did do good at box office.

World Wide - 161 mil (98 mil domestic)

White House Down: WW - 131 mil (71 mil domestic)

And really glad to see the better made white house action film came out on top.

I remember at the press conference I told Gerard Butler that Channing Tatum better watch out.

This movie definitely did not go easy on the bloodshed, especially the taking of the White House. It makes you wonder what kind of defense systems the White House really does have.

Pretty good movie. Surprisingly, Gerard entertained me. Villains were great, too, and it's always good to see Aaron Eckhart. Very nice.

Butler played a game of F off with Channing Tatum, Tatum went first.

Watched this again last night, no way Fuqua wasn't trolling.

This wasn't a bad experience. Not well written, but fairly well made, and the throwback elements are appreciated. Incredibly cliché though, with a couple of really good scenes, solid, surprisingly bloody action throughout, and of course, Gerard Butler being a badass. It's entertaining enough thanks to Butler's aforementioned badassery, but also sometimes for the wrong reasons. The movie lost me about the time the government started caring about preserving the President's life in relation to the possibility of nuclear annihilation of the entire country. Luckily it got me back every time Butler was onscreen. I was hoping Morgan Freeman was behind it all. That's one cliché I could have handled. Alas.

I have to say, i was pleasantly surprised by this movie. There's plenty of cheese of course, but overall i enjoyed it. Had a great time.

just seen this and what a bad ass 90's die hard throw back so much fun to be had here

the action was bloody and brutal

they really made you hate the villains and want butler to get revenge

and gerard butler gave a great performance

People, you have to wait until both films have completelly left the theaters, because right now White House Down has surpasses the grossing of Olympus has fallen. Just watched Olympus though, the effect kind of bothered me, the film was ok but this is one of those films you need to watch in good quality because most of the film is dark.

I didn't really find it that brutal or violent, i thought the villain was going to torture the people with the codes in worse way than just beating them until they talk.

Grosses don't mean anything by themselves, they have to be seen against budget and White House down is a massive bomb with a 150 million dollar budget and 200 million worldwide in receipts. It has lost an enormous amount of money.

Olympus is a hit meanwhile with a 70 million dollar budget and 160 worldwide. Olympus has definitely won this round.
