Superman Returns One thing that bothers me about Superman Returns

In Look, Up in the Sky, Gene Simmons says that Superman is the ultimate American immigrant story. Gene Simmons is jewish, and also I believe, the God of Thunder.

the term "saviour" does not automatically mean Jesus Christ.
though it can refer to Jesus, the definition is "one that saves from danger or destruction." therefore, Superman is a saviour.
thank you, thank you,thank you.

superman saves people. therefore he is referred to as a savior. not jesus.

Warning: This thread is about religious.

Ok.... I'm Christian who believes in Jesus. There is one thing that bothers me a lot.

"Why the World doesn't need a savior": That bothers me A LOT. Why did Bryan Singer put some religious in Superman Returns?

Really, IMO... Superman is not Jesus Christ. I'm really disgusted with this. No offense. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE, HUGE fan of Superman but he is not Jesus Christ.

The other day, I saw a recent issue of ocmic book,it has Superman with RED ANGELS up in the sky. That pisses me off. I'm sorry, but that pisses me off and bothers me a lot. "SUPERMAN IS GOD! HE IS A JESUS CHRIST OF SAVIOR!" Geez.

Seriously, why did the creators made Superman into Jesus Christ Wanna-be? Honestly, I think it's pathetic and stupid. I ONLY believe in Jesus as always. Superman is not God and Jesus Christ.

It's not that I hate Superman Returns. I REALLY LOVED this movie a lot. A LOT.

If this thread is out of control, feel free to close the thread. Thanks.
Superman was created, as you probably know, by two Jewish fanboys in 1938. No doubt Siegel and Shuster deliberately included themes about Jesus in their original books; the various writers and artists over the years have simply amplified it. True, it can cause confusion for those not familiar with Christ and the Truth He provides, but I believe that is where the responsibility should be split in half, between Superman's current writers and the parents of the kids absorbing his stories.

As for the film, I have two opinions.

1) The "Savior" line really ticked off my uncle as well, but I didn't really have a problem with it. I'm a Christian as well, but to me that line served two purposes. In the context of the story, it showed how helpless and bitter Lois felt, and as for reality, it helped demonstrate the emotions of those who have lost faith in the real Savior of Jesus Christ. The payoff of that line ("every day I hear people crying for one") could be taken in the same context as well.

2) The only note that sincerely got to me in the film was Lois, Richard, and Jason's "family" being considered "normal". That is, the fact that she (presumably) slept with Richard a short time after Superman's departure, and yet in 5 years never marries him because she's waiting for the Man of Steel? I like Richard as a character, because he shows more love for Lois than himself, but the unmarried status bugged me a bit. Kudos to Singer for having Lois refuse to kiss Superman out of loyalty to Richard. I found myself cheering more for him than for Lois at times; James Marsden was a great addition to the cast.

...wasn't Jesus Jewish?
Well, the term "Jewish" has two distinct meanings. One describes the descandants of the Jewish race, while the other represents the choice of some people to abide by the Jewish doctrine. In Jesus' case, He was considered to be Jewish by race, since He was believed to be Joseph's son. As for faith, He actively went against the Jewish religious leaders, so I think Christ's stance on that is relatively self-explanatory.

Actually to be Jewish you are meant to have a Jewish mother. 'Cos that way it's known for certain one parent is Jewish as there were no DNA tests back then.

Well, Jesus was also known as Mary's son to the people of that time period, so the same distinction still applies. Jesus was Jewish by race, not by faith. Otherwise, He'd have agreed with the Pharisees, rather than speaking against them. That's one of the main reason why current Jews (in general) refuse to acknowledge Christ as the Son of God...because He actively preached grace, rather than the "earn your way in" philosophy.

Rant finished; back to the Man of Steel, since this thread is about that subject.

I wasn't arguing he wasn't Jewish. And actually he lived a Jew, died a Jew and was buried a Jew. Not to mention for awhile his followers preached in Synagogues until they were kicked out I believe (I don't know the details about that). Which is in the Bible if I remember right. So they formed groups that became churches. Then there's splits and those that became orthodox beliefs and non-orthodox beliefs or heresy. What was the topic?
