That's the name of this year's Marvel event. It's by Aaron and Deodato and is about the original (and better) Nick Fury leading an investigation into the murder of [BLACKOUT]Uatu the Watcher[/BLACKOUT]. Other characters that are featured joining Fury are Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Punisher, Doctor Strange, Emma Frost, Ant-Man and Black Panther. It's 8 issues over 4 months, so it will double ship (no surprise there).

Hmmm, other than Deodato's art, there isn't really anything there that draws my attention. I'll wait for more info, but so far I'm not impressed. Aaron's take on AvX and Battle of the Atom were horrid, so his running his own event doesn't bode well in my opinion.

It does for me. Thor is one of Marvel's top NOW era books and his WATXM was creatively strong until AvX interfered in what was going on there. I think he's more than capable. I'm glad that it has the original Fury as the center piece and not the SLJ knock off. He sucks. We already had a Fury, there was no need for another to (once again) cater to an audience that is small to begin with.

Agreed - good that its the original Fury. I see the Punisher mentioned there too, hopefully Frank gets to kick ass! :unishr:

Yeah I like the idea of having him there. It's an interesting mix of characters plus the big 3 on top of it.

I got a question: how many months you figure before they bring the Watcher back.

They've killed/resurrected so many people that it actually disgusts me at this point when they say a character is dying.

How do you kill a watcher? I thought they were unkillable.

Oh, I agree that his Thor was phenomenal while I read it (due to finances, I stopped after the Godbomb arc). And while W&tXM was great at first, it died after AVX and is only just now getting readable again. He's about the same to me as Matt Fraction. Sometimes amazing and sometimes full blown sucktitude.

Start a year with an event, great
How many events do you suppose they will publish this year?

They usually are doing 2 a year now. One is the major event and the other is someone's pet project.

Remember 2 years ago, when the Marvel point One issue came out, there were a couple of intruders that snuck into Uatu's lair... stole something, and then left... I bet this "death" will have something to do with that...

I'm not going to get it... maybe in a cheap trade form down the road if I hear it's good, but I'm happy they're doing something "proactive" with the Watcher.

:yay:

Never read it, interesting possibility

Jason Aaron revealed a few more "Original Sin" details during a Marvel.com live chat with fans Wednesday, including further insight on the tie-ins planned, which the writer says will take a different approach than past major Marvel events.

"This will be a different sort of mix between main story and tie-ins than Marvel has done in the past," Aaron said. "The main 'Original Sin' series tells the story of the murder and the investigation. The tie-ins will deal with the fall-out of that murder and the secrets that come out because of it. So they're two different sets of stories, basically."

Though there will be tie-ins, Aaron made it clear that "Original Sin" looks to achieve a goal frequently sought with company-wide events -- standing on its own while having an impact on the larger shared universe.

"If the consequences are big enough, they'll always affect the Marvel U as a whole," Aaron advised. "And the consequences in this one are pretty big, especially for certain characters. But 'Original Sin' is also a story with a very definite beginning, middle and end."

Speaking more of the characters involved, Aaron reiterated than along with the obligatory major Marvel names -- "Thor has some big scenes later in the series" -- "Original Sin" will also have less expected players and combinations, divulging that Gamora, Moon Knight and the Winter Soldier will travel to space together, and that he's enjoying writing scenes between Punisher & Doctor Strange (who will be traveling to other dimensions), plus Emma Frost & Ant-Man (Scott Lang, as confirmed during the chat).

"There are different investigations. We'll see a lot of those characters I mentioned breaking into smaller groups and going out to different corners of the Marvel U," Aaron said. "All of the characters were all chosen for this story for very specific reasons."

Declining again to name any specific villains showing up in the series, Aaron commented, "I'll just say that there are villains involved, right out of the gate. As for who they are, I'm quite certain no one's going to guess... It's an interesting little group of bad guys."

Aaron also confirmed that while the story starts with Uatu the Watcher's murder, he's not the only death planned for "Original Sin" -- when asked if the Watcher was the only casualty in the event, Aaron answered simply, "No." Also, when praising the work of series artist Mike Deodato, Aaron said, "He's doing the work of his life on this story. Drawing every Marvel character you can think of, loads of crazy action and more weird dead bodies than you can count."

The writer reminded fans that the Watcher was keeping more than the secrets, further increasing the stakes for Marvel's heroes: "There are items of power missing from the Watcher's base, as well as all those secrets. Remember the Ultimate Nullifier? You'd hate to see that fall into the wrong hands, right?"

CBR News was able to sneak a question into the live chat, asking if any Watchers other than Uatu play a part in "Original Sin." "Can't say," Aaron replied. "If those guys know what's good for them though, they might wanna keep their distance until this thing blows over."

I don't think the Watchers were ever unkillable. They're just so advanced that they can easily stay hidden or defend themselves from other races. This event is supposed to involve beings called "the Unseen," which sounds pretty much like a race that's evolved in direct opposition to the Watchers. That's a big retcon, but it kind of makes sense; no organism ever really exists in nature totally unopposed.

As I mentioned in another thread I've been warming up to this (a bit unsure about them killing the Watcher though) but it'll be great to see Fury and Frank interacting again and the idea that some of the secrets revealed "are good" has me interested.

Here's hoping this is an entertaining romp with a strong start and finish.

In one of the interviews--I think it's one Marvel's site--the writer acknowledged that said comic feeds into "Original Sin." This story bounced around several of their retreats, until they finallly decided to go ahead with it.

What the hell are people like Fury and Castle doing being involved in something that's as far outside their realm as the death of a goddamned Watcher?

Fury is leading the investigation. Watcher must have had some info on secrets that the killer(s) finds. Since he's Mr. Secretive himself, I'm sure there's a reason he doesn't want it out there. He probably recruits Frank because he's a soldier and this is a mission. It's always interesting to see how Frank reacts to being someone's pawn for any reason.

Hypothetical twist....

The Watcher committed suicide after seeing something so horrendous that he couldn't bare to see it threw. What could drive the one who's seen everything ever to such a fate? Intrigue!

I made all that up fyi, but that'd be interesting if it went that direction :)

Fury's still out of his league here. This is way more than international terrorism.

And Frank being a soldier means nothing. He's way outgunned.
