Oscar Candidate?

Which it may conceivably have a chance at winning, since Pirates of the Caribbean and Pan's Labyrinth have mostly visual effects.

POTC2 yes, Pan's Labyrinth i'm not so sure since i've not seen it yet.
Yeah, they'll put on "Oscar Nominee" rather than "Oscar Nominee FOR BEST MAKE-UP" :whatever:

Yeah, yeah, an oscar's an oscar, but for that big of a SFX-driven flick, you'd want the bigger "technical" nominations.
True and thats what Fox are aiming for. Heres their 'For your consideration' ad. Maybe a sigh of relief for those thinking they wanted a Best Picture nod.

Pan's Labyrinth has a pretty good chance--they used some pretty extensive makeup for both Pan and the Pale Man. And the Pale Man was one of the freakiest things I've seen in a movie in awhile. I think they only used CG for parts of the costumes for both. The rest was played by Doug Jones (the soon-to-be Silver Surfer).

Pan's Labyrinth ?
whats that
that wasnt in the list of 7 films short listed for best FX

Pan's Labyrinth is Guillermo del Toro's latest film . . . and they're talking about best makeup; not FX.

I assume the makeup judge-people will focus on Juggernaut, Mystique, Beast, and those other Brotherhood-Muties...

Thanks for posting those GREAT photos of Beast and Juggernaut. These are the two make-ups that the Academy have deemed worthy of consideration for an Oscar nomination. The "bake off" is tomorrow, and the results are announced next Tuesday! It would be fantastic if X3 makes it to the top three and gets a nomination.

Sorry guys, but I don't think X3 make up is great enough to be nominated, at least for the Oscars. The first time I saw Beast (that horrible pic, trying to be a beast) was a big disappoinment, in my case.

Hey, I'm not saying it's a LONG SHOT, but it is possible. The Academy has made some interesting choices in the past. One year, only FRIDA and THE TIME MACHINE were nominated, the same year MEN IN BLACK 2, LORD OF THE RINGS 2, and NUTTY PROFESSOR 2 came out. There was little note worthy make-up in FRIDA [the winner] and none in TIME MACHINE [the artists who did the Morlocks were not nominated], so who knows?

Which three would you guys pick?

the x men in the oscars!! tat will be cool! haha

It'd be great if X3 would get nominated for something. I feel that POTC2 and Pan's Labyrinth will pretty much take any awards in makeup/fx/etc (Pan's in becoming a critical favorite), but a nomination is great in itself as well

X-MEN made a good showing at the make-up bake off on Saturday, so let's see what happens next Tuesday!

I don't think the makeup job Beast was overall as great it could have been.He looks great in some shots and bad in others.
Although i dislike the costume i think they did a great job on Vinnie Jones with the fake muscles, hair etc.

They also did a terrifiic job with Mystique (not that hard after 2 movies) and the background muties. Its a shame you don't get to see the full detail on the big screen.

Salma Hayek will be co-announcing the nominees today. Scroll down for the....uhm...2 stories.:woot:

the music was good and the effects were as well, though its hard to get past that since the storytelling was lackluster.

Agreed. Can you imagine if X3 actually wins one of those gongs?!?:ninja:

I'm surprised Kate Bosworth got a (totally undeserved) Razzie nomination for her perfomance in SR yet X3 got nothing at all.How the heck did they escape that awards list?

I was surprised too to not seeing X3 on the Razzie.

I don't think the makeup job Beast was overall as great it could have been.

At least I see someone who thinks like me. As I said, when I saw the first pic of Beast, I was truly dissapointed. I think Kurt and Mystique were a better job than Beast. Beast seemed like a troll more than "Beast" of the X-men.

Only 10 categories will be announced. I wonder if they will go with any from the ones X3 is up to. Guess not...

X3 is out of the Oscars.

Visual effects: Superman Returns, Pirates and Poseidon.
Makeup: Click, Pan's Labyrith and Apocalypto.
