Maybe I am in the minority here but I actually don't mind the look and like it.

I read a recent interview quote from Singer who said that Apocalypse will look like he does in the comics. While this is certainly one interpretation of that look, it is clear by the images of this movie so far that Singer is at least TRYING to go with classic comic looks (e.g., Psylocke looks EXACTLY like the comics, Magneto is finally in red, etc.). For example, those classic lines on the sides of Apocalypse's mouth appear to actually be there in the high-res photos, albeit less pronounced than in the comics. So I guess let's see the final product...

there are definitely a lot of elements that are call backs to his comics look, and I give Fox credit for finally trying for accuracy
but it just doesn't all quite come together right

Like the Sentinels, is a VERY different interpretation of something from the comics.
Is it very different from the Apocalypse we seen in the comic and the 90's cartoon? Yes.
Will everyone like it? It's a 50/50 chance, but we will find out next year.
The more I look at the high-def pic (not the EW pic), the more I like it because it brings out a mystery of what he will do or how he will look throughout the movie.

But, that's the thing, it's not.

The Sentinels were very clearly inspired by other media, just not the "classic" version. The Mark I was a version of the Evolution Sentinel, with classic purple color. The Mark X was clearly based on Nimrod.

The same goes here. Plenty of identifiable influences. Just not as close to the "classic" look as many were hoping for.

I know and if anything, the movie sentinels (2023 version) are actually kind of better than the comic ones.

And lets be honest, did you think Singer was gonna actually follow the "classic" version without making a few changes?

aww hells no!
Honestly, I thought the "past" sentinels looked cool, it was just the future ones that left a whole lot to be desired

And hey, I don't envy costume designers, production designers, and make up artists on CBM's, at all
There's the teeniest fine line of what can be changed and not make half the audience hate it

In this case, I just happen to think they tripped over that line with Apocalypse

I thought the future ones were scarier. Their faces opened up and they didn't look like they were wearing a toque.

Maybe the minority on here, but the majority of my friends I've shown the pictures to all thought he looked pretty cool.

ehh, they just looked kinda bland and ugly to me, like something you'd see on Krypton in a Zach Snyder film :P

i keed

anecdotal, don't mean much, everyone I've talked to thinks he looks dopey, so it's seemingly pretty split

Yeah like it or hate it. Apocalypse's look is going to divide opinion all the way on this one and probably after the films out also.

Hopefully the movie will put all the controversy to rest, ala Quicksilver in DOFP.

I hope so too, although I feel Apocalypse faces a tougher challenge being, one would expect, a much bigger part of the story than QS was in DOFP.

But yeah I'm hopeful Isaac can put in a performance that makes his appearance the only thing to really question.

I like it too. It's something new and different, but it incorporates most of his look's key elements.

Yep. And by now, we should all know that the X-franchise (with the exception of the extremely accurate First Class X-uniforms) doesn't do comic accurate. But we can always count on them to incorporate elements from the comic.

After seeing how the movies depicted the looks of Magneto, Mystique, Sabretooth, Toad, Lady Deathstrike, Pyro, Callisto, Phoenix, Juggernaut, Agent Zero, Riptide, Sebastian Shaw, Silver Samurai, Quicksilver and the Sentinels... Apocalypse not looking like a carbon copy of the comics isn't a surprise to me. I am just grateful that he's not wearing civilian clothes or a business attire.

I will just add that if Oscar Isaac brings it like I think he will (based on the SDCC trailer and his standing as a great actor in general) all this talk about "should the make-up be more gray or blue?" will be an afterthought. And I write this as someone who still winces at the missed opportunity to give him a more protruding lip outline.

Seriously, we may look back in a few years and think he was a better villain than Thanos. There is no guarantee to this at all, just based on what Isaac looks to bring and what the Marvel track record has been thus far, including Thanos being nothing more than floating chair for three years so far.

Wasn't as bad as the representation of Galactus, but it was current Apocalypse bad.

Sadly you have a point.

No, it wasn't.

If your agreeing it wasn't Galactus bad, then thumbs up. If you think its not as bad as Apoc, then your saying Apoc is horrible because Juggs was horrible. Juggs is close to the Hulk in size. In the movie he was smaller than half of the pro wrestlers in the WWE. Were talking about a film in the year 2000 that is using "Lou Forigno Hulk" aesthetics. Its embarrassing. Every movie should be visually stunning with the technology we have now.

So, should we use mocap to give actors the comic book physiques as well. That is pretty much your arguement.

What about a good story? How many visually stunning movies failed in that department?

Sounds that way. Smh.
