Apocalypse Oscar Isaac IS Apocalypse

I think despite the look, its all about the characterisation in the end. QS looked awful in his magazine shots before DOFP, then in the movie he was great, as me and another poster have said.

Then look at Malekith in TDW, I thought his look was brilliant and based on that thought he would be a great villain, then in the movie he was really poorly handled. So get the characterisation right and the look wont be an issue in my eyes.

I come expecting Apocalypse, all I got was a low-budget power ranger villain.

I would imagine Oscar Isaac didn't take this role to look like Oscar Isaac.

If we lose Oscar Isaac in the pursuit of the character Apocalypse, that's a good thing. It's called acting.

Acting has nothing to do with the visual. If we lose Isaac in the performance, that's great, but I really think they went overboard with makeup.

Why on earth did they go blue? Has anyone maniples him to have grey skin but keep the lips blue?

but can't get it in movie called Apocalypse.

This is what's so baffling; Singer is directing both movies and presumably had the foresight to already plan the next one. Why does the villain look completely different (in spite of the age depiction)?

The height and skin color wouldn't bother me if it weren't for the fact this barely looks like Apocalypse that I know and love. Not even in a hyperbolic sense, I genuinely see no resemblance to his comic book counterpart.

that's true, characterization is much more important
but the visual is always there too, in the back of your mind
with QS, I thought "wow, his scene was cool, and could've been even cooler if he didn't look like a glam-rock-new-waver"
and Malekith it was "oh it's too bad he's lame, because he looks so damn cool"

so, more important? yes
but this is a visual medium, and we are visual creatures

Overall I like the look they're going for. Apocalypse's costume clearly looks like a blend of ancient and futuristic visual motifs, which is what I want in the character. A lot of the technical details in his armor definitely remind me of the character's comic book appearance.

The one thing I'm a little unsure of is the facial makeup, which looks a little strange, especially with the head gear and metal tubing around his head. But then again, Apocalypse is a strange character to begin with, so it may just be that I'm not used to this design yet and it will take a little getting used to. Visually, Apocalypse is probably one of the more complicated characters to translate to live-action, so some strangeness is probably inevitable. I'll wait and see how it looks on the screen.

They should have went for mo cap. Worked for Thanos. Here Appcalype looks like a poor mans Ronan.

The look in Apocalypse's eyes is definitely a plus. The eyes look very EVIL, and they suggest a very malevolent master planner. Oscar Issac's facial expressions in these images certainly suit the character.

Marvel are great at getting the look right for their villains but their characterisations and impact are negligible, Loki aside.

His armour is indeed. Great I think the issue is mostly with his face and size

He looks fairly high budget.

He look okay on the EW Cover, it gives him the height that people were claiming he lacked in the leaked footage. However in the other photos he still looks underwhelming. Hopefully with VFX added the face and his presence looks better.

But at the end of the day, I'll take a threatening villain and great performance from Isaac than comic resemblance, to an extent.

However, either make him look like Oscar Isaac, or the comic book counterpart, this is neither so far

In the Rogue Cut commentary Singer and Ottman say that that End credits scene was a very last minute spur of the moment thing that was thrown together because Singer had been reading Chariots of the Gods and has a fascination with the idea that aliens built the pyramids. So he through that End credits scene together. They didn't spend a whole lot of time on the designs of that scene. That's why the design of Apocalypse in that scene is so minimalist and bare minimum.

Also that scene takes place 3,000 years before Apocalypse. That's a long time so some change in appearance is to be expected. All that's really different is he has a different outfit and a helmet. He can't wear that robe he was wearing in the end credits scene for thousands of years. Even immortal overlords probably get tired of the same look, and like to change it up once in a while.

I think Poc's look is just too hard for current effects or something. It's a valiant effort but it's a long way from the awesomeness of the character's real look. Of course this doesn't mean he can't still be a great X-villain.

Aside from this cover in which he looks a bit better,in the other pics I've seen he really does look like that power rangers villain.

Even though I like Apoc's look, I have to disagree with this. I mean if they are able to make Thanos screen accurate, there's no reason they can't do the same with Apoc, or any other similar looking villain like Darkseid and such.

What do you mean completely different?

For one thing, he looks different because he's wearing different clothing.

For another, he's what, thousands and thousands of years older?

Third, he was blue in DOFP, he's blue here.

If you see no resemblance to his comic book counterpart, you're not looking very hard.
