It'd be nice if I had more confidence in Wolfgang Novogratz's acting abilities, because damn:
He has that affable, "golly shucks" quality that I quite like for Superman. But going by the limited amount of stuff I've watched from him... I don't know. They
HAVE to get this casting right, and I don't know if this guy has the experience or the talent to to shoulder something with this much enormity.
In light of that recent (and almost certainly fake) rumor the other day, just on the incredibly minuscule chance that it's on the money, I circled back around to this guy. And yeah... He's
got the Look and the Vibe. But given his current filmography resume, there's not much present that gives a solid indicator that Novogratz has the chops to match yet.
I will say I do really dig Wolfgang Novogratz's look though. I hadn't initially noticed it myself until I started seeing direct comparisons online, but he does have a rather notable resemblance to Christopher Reeve. A bit of Dylan O'Brien in the mix too, sure, but man... once I properly saw the resemblance to Reeve, the more it's stuck with me.
Granted, I previously gave David Corenswet some flack for potentially looking too similar to Henry Cavill, but I think part of why Novogratz's resemblance to Reeve doesn't bother me nearly as much is that regardless of which Superman you prefer, Reeve did a
far better job naturally exuding that "Golly Shucks" attitude than Cavill ever did. Cavill may technically have "looked" more like Superman from the comics, but he looks like a statue of marble. He looks
too perfect, ultimately lacking that humanity and affable charm that Clark innately projects that brings the whole thing together for Superman.
Corenswet, as others have already noted, is a lot closer to the mark here than Cavill ever was. But I dunno... If- and this is an enormous "If"- Novogratz were to be cast in the role, I'd have to assume that he'd have earned it by proving to those involved that he's somehow got the range and chops to deliver and hasn't quite had the right project to showcase his talents yet.
