Our "Space Princess": David Corenswet IS Clark Kent/Superman!

I was reading an article on another site that was going over suggestions for potential Superman actors. Most of them were names already thrown around on here but one in particular I hadn't heard yet so I am bringing up up just to throw a new name around. Charles Melton

I don't know anything about his acting, he is 32 and 6'1"
Only seen him on Riverdale, but evidently he was good enough for Todd Haynes to cast him opposite Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman.

So, I have never seen the show Riverdale, but I'll go through Superman casting suggestions and I swear...
Eli Goree, from Riverdale.
KJ Apa, from Riverdale.
Ross Butler, from Riverdale,
Charles Melton, from Riverdale.
Camila Mendes as Lois, from Riverdale.
I'm just thinking, "How many freaking people are on the show Riverdale?" Haha

It's on Netflix if you're in the States. Good old fashioned how can we make this show more insane with each passing season wholesome television. :o

Not to disregard anyone's suggestions. They're all perfectly fine. But I think many are being a tad too literal with the whole "mid-20's" thing. The actor doesn't have to be that age.

But then I reread Gunn's remarks on Twitter on the matter, and I found them quite antsy, even defensive. Something is there that I think many have missed (and I have submitted a piece on just that).

Someone mentioned him before, and I remember wanting to look into him more but then it slipped my mind completely. Just happened to come back to me the other night.

Aesthetically, he checks a bunch of boxes for me. Reminds me of a younger Patrick Warburton; tall, with more of a strong build than an athletic one. Put him on a 6,000 calorie diet and you could bulk him right up to resemble an oxlike farmhand. When Gunn describes Superman as a "big galoot," this is exactly what I envision him looking like.

Spencer House also follows the tradition of being an unknown up-and-comer. He's probably not going to give you an Oscar-caliber performance, but he seems moldable for an actor-friendly director like Gunn and he has certain innate qualities that scream "Clark Kent."

Wish he had blue eyes, but dye his hair and eyebrows black and I could get by with him having darker eyes.

If we're fancasting purely based on looks (since I have legitimately haven't seen any of his acting) I'd say that he's perhaps my favorite.

Watched a bit of his show on Hulu. I think Gunn could work with him.

He's my favorite "unknown" choice not named David Corenswet.

Not my favorite pick, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they look at Ansel Elgort for this. Reliable talent, right age range, bit of a throwback vibe.

Please, no more actors headlining DC projects who have been accused of assaulting women.

Also, Elgort might be 18 feet tall but he always looks like a strong wind would knock him over.

I guarantee you he won't even cross their minds. Why would you even think that.

Ansel Elgort is such a void of charisma that he single-handedly almost destroyed West Side Story. One of the best movies of Spielberg's entire ****ing career which is one hell of an anti-accomplishment.

Why would they cast this dude (awful allegations against him, doesn't look remotely like Superman, too well known, etc) when they have quite a selection of unknowns to choose from?

Ezra has already given WB enough of a headache, they certainly don’t need a slightly toned down version of that mess.

Also, true to the comparison, Elgort seems more like Barry Allen than Clark. But even then, still no.

Yeah so I’ll clarify/apologize for putting Ansel Elgort’s name out into the universe…

I don’t want him in the role, I just wouldn’t have been surprised if his name was coming up. He’s got the resume and decent critical acclaim but isn’t quite a superstar, young but not too much of a Peter Parker/college hero… he checks a lot of the studio boxes.

I’m not really familiar with his allegations, I’d just assumed he was in the clear when he headlined West Side Story. If he’s gross, even further reason to hope a casting director gets as fired up as you all, haha.

In actuality, I haven’t personally seen the right actor on screen yet —perfect recast for me would be someone in an Abrahamic überman mold that really honors that part of the character’s roots and distances the character from Cavill’s version.

Both Hauer-King and Corenswet are intriguing so far, although they’re both maybe a tad delicate looking for my ideal Superman. I’m planning to check out their acting soon to see if they have any chops.

EDIT: Probably older than they’re looking at (although he played a college-aged Mark Ruffalo as recently as 2020), but Philip Ettinger seems to have a great blue-collar vibe. Maybe a little intense, but who’s to say he couldn’t play against type.

Not my choice but I figured I would do a face swap on this image and see how it turned out. Elordi as Supes.

Haven’t actually watched the show he’s on, but purely on an aesthetic/age level, Gabriel Basso seems to have it going on…

I thought this guy was Iron fist at first glance.

This is what I was referring to.

Why James Gunn's Superman Is More Likely to Be Played By an Actor in His 30s Than His 20s

I'm hoping for a Clark with these kinda vibes. Not the smartest guy, the coolest guy, the prettiest or most successful, but a good guy.

The perfect Ken doll type (Wolfgang Novogratz, Charles Melton, Austin Butler, etc) is what I'd want for Luthor and/or Brainiac instead.

Not a fan of Elordi being cast as Superman in general, and most of the manips of him as Superman aren't very good, but WOW does that manip make him look good if he is cast. Still just a manip, but looks wise he could pull it off, which surprised me.

I understand the whole Clark as every man , but have to laugh when no one seems to have the same argument for Lois not being a supermodel or knock out looking. Clark falls for her because of who she is, not because she is just a walking Barbie doll.

These AI manips don't work for me because of how heavily they modify the natural features of the actor. When all is said and done you're basically looking at a made-up person with a passing resemblance to the actor on which they're based.

Hell, put a picture of me through an AI and even I could be made to look like Superman by these things.

I think the Elordi discussions are puzzling to me because people seem to think he looks like a farm boy and to me he really doesn’t? He looks like an underwear model. Which is fine. But people keep saying he looks like “the average guy” or something

I feel like that's how some people describe any candidate that doesn't have the blue eyes. :funny:

But yeah, same. He looks 100% like a model to me.

How many references this Movie will have with All Star Superman Comic? since James Gunn announced the Superman Legacy Movie with All Star Superman Comic Cover as reference i think it is very obvious that Superman Legacy will be inspired by All Star
