Our "Space Princess": David Corenswet IS Clark Kent/Superman!

THOUGHTS ON DAVID CORENSWET AS SUPERMAN

Pros:

- he's 6'4, so accurate Superman height

- He has blue eyes

- an actual American with a natural American accent

- from Pennsylvania (Smallville vibes: the rustbelt is very similar to the midwest)

- He can act (went to Juliard like Chris Reeve, Val Kilmer, Kevin Conroy)

- much more charismatic than wooden Henry Cavill, in interviews alone. I get Brendan Fraser vibes off him, which is not a bad thing for Superman, and a much better step in the right direction after the soul-less Zack Snyder version

- He's a fan of the classic version of the character (sounds like James Gunn is too, so hopefully between the two of them we will see the true costume with the red trunks and yellow belt and proper colors finally)

CONS:

- he looks like a discount store version of Henry Cavill. Which by itself isn't necessarily bad, but it does make one wonder if audiences will get that this is a different guy*.

* ...however, that's also a possible "pro" because it will mean that the studio will go to even further lengths to differentiate this version from Snyder's and make sure it is nothing like Cavill's version, from the story and probably from the costume especially so that audiences viscerally get that this is a reboot and not the Snyder version

I think Corenswet will do great. He's solid casting, and in the hands of a good director and writer who gets the characters, like James Gunn, even mediocre casting can work. So we are in good hands. I am optimistic!

I'm sick of hearing that Corenswet is a "discount store version of Cavill" or a "Cavill if you ordered him off wish". It's so disrespectful and people just keep throwing it around willy nilly. It makes it sound like he's a lesser person. This guy did nothing wrong to deserve that. He's not in charge of anything creatively, he didn't make the decision to get rid of Cavill. He's an actor trying to get roles, Leave him be.

Since he dyed his hair for the screentest (thanks hostage videos for making that evident!), I have a feeling it will be dyed for the movie. Hopefully just darker than his natural shade and not an unnatural-looking jet black, though. I feel like it was Superman-ready in The Politician, honestly.

I guess I'm on "Team Dye" (that sounds so funny), as I feel the darker hair completes the overall look. But at the same time, I recognize that every Superman actor can't be a Tyler Hoechlin, whose natural hair color is as close as you can possibly get to an actual jet-black shade. And like you said, black hair dye on Corenswet might look noticeably unnatural. So, a slightly darker shade of brown should suffice.

Grace Randolph compared Corenswet to a CW actor on her live stream today, if I heard that right. I'm guessing she's wrong, I've never seen him act in anything. And tbh, I like the current CW Superman soooooo lol.
Grace wanted Matt Reeves to cast Kit Harrington “John Snow” as Superman in the Reevesverse. So that tells you what she thinks of Superman. Also remember she really was pointing to Logan Lerman as the favorite for the DCU Superman. Like some in the GA, Grace would like a different take on Clark. She thinks David is fanboy pick kinda like Cavill.

Yeah but you could've said the same about Reeve and now you can't imagine him any differently. It'd just help Corenswet disappear more into the role, which is going to be transformative beyond hair anyway. If you can do black hair on Leo for Wolf of Wall Street, it ain't a stretch here.

I get what some people are saying though. You need to go for a more natural tone of black. Jet black hair like what Karl Urban has in The Boys doesn't look natural at all. It almost registers on a blue scale.

I won't whine if they don't dye his hair. I mean, it's about as dark as you can get while still being brown. But that's also the reason I don't think it'd look too unnatural if they just neutralize it. I'm good either way tbh. Just happy he won't have to use contacts!

Just because there's a precedent for doing something doesn't mean it's the best and only option available. Reeve, who initially dyed his hair black and later used wigs on account of his then-accelerating alopecia, looked fine with the cosmetic change, but I still think it's noticeably fake. And Leo's dark brown hair in The Wolf of Wall Street was arguably necessitated by the fact that he was portraying real-life broker Jordan Belfort. Like I said before, though, I'm all for Corenswet dying his hair a little darker. I just don't think it needs to be an unrealistic shade of black.

Supes with black hair that sometimes looks blue? Sign me up.

not personally familiar with this actors work enough to really get excited by this news just, yet

intrigued to see things moving forward on the project for sure
(so, any casting new at this point is certainly a step in the right direction)

only became aware of them through the fan-cast (an I recognize how rear it is for fans to actually get their fan-cast in the role, so, excited for those who got who wanted him in the role)

and he looks the part well enough an I'm sure with the right material could/will do fine in the role

once we start to get a clearly idea of what that material will be, an I like what see is when I'll start getting excited

What sort of out fits do you want to see Clark in? I am finding it difficult to find a good formal outfit for Clark that doesn't make him look like a Supermodel. Should Clark but a bit aloof/playing it up when it comes to his more formal attire that he is under dressed say compared to Bruce Wayne.

The interview that sold me on Corenswet as Superman:

Again, much more charismatic and natural than Cavill was. No hate on Cavill, he was dealt a raw deal with having to play the worst version of the character in live action (second only to Hoechlin's man-child version) and he's a nice guy in real life from what I can tell, but Cavill has been a wooden, charisma vacuum in everything I've ever seen him in.

"John Williams music following me around." Gotta love a guy jonesing for a role without a hint of subtlety.

I'll be honest. He looks the part, seems to have an easy charm. I haven't seen him act, so I've no idea of how fit he is for the role beyond what he said about playing the character back in 2019.

As I said before this will live and die on what Gunn writes and puts on screen. I'm sure if Gunn manages that, Corenswet will do a fine job.

I think he should dress casually unless he’s going to a work event or doing an on-camera interview. I could see him wearing some nice sweaters or polos to the office, but I’m largely expecting a continuation of the modern Kent wardrobe: a flannel shirt and jeans.

I guess you missed all of the other things I said in my post?

I would literally never have thought about his hair being dark brown and not black. Doesn’t feel like it matters.

I used to think that as well, but about eye colour & did it really matter, but it always irked me Dean Cain had brown eyes.

It doesn't have to be jet black like Christopher Reeve's, which I think was a wig if I recall & did look quite strange in a few shots.. but it must be at bare minimum dark brown IMO & if you look at the shots of Corenswet when his hair isn't wet or plastered in product, it looks way too light.
