Our "Space Princess": David Corenswet IS Clark Kent/Superman!

I suspect it's mostly genetics. According to People Magazine, this is Cavill with Mum and two of his brothers.

His brother on the right looks like that meme of Mr Incredible after he becomes 'uncanny'

Of course, there is a strong genetic component. The guy had a widow's peak before even bulking up for Man of Steel. If I recall correctly, anabolic steroids mostly just speed up the process for those already genetically pre-disposed to male pattern baldness.

The original post was just a silly little play on FC's dislike of Cavill and love for SuperDave with a little bit of mockery of Cavill's ridiculous hairstyling in Argylle thrown in.

Also tends to age you up heavily

Take a look at Alan Ritchson as Reacher from Season 1-2. He's pretty open about being "natural" in S1 but actually on TRT in S2 and he literally looks like he's aged 10 years.

I'd genuinely argue Cavill had that to a lesser extent, from MoS to BvS.

Yeah, that is complete baloney by Ritchson about being natural in season 1. His whole explanation for why he needs TRT now makes no sense. (He also makes the crazy claim that he built his physique by just working out 3-4 days a week and eating whatever he wanted for 10 years. And that if you that and don't look like him, there is something wrong with you.)

He claims that working out for season 1 killed his natural testosterone, but it doesn't work that way. The only way that happens is if you use steroids for a long time and they kill your natural production, so that when you go off, it doesn't rebound, requiring you to be on TRT for life.

Agreed.

What I genuinely think it is, is that Ritchson was just on TRT for S1 (as he probably has been for years, like a lot of male action stars) and wasn't taking anything extra for Reacher. Then for S2 he got on the full gear to bulk up even more and maintain it because he's a 40 year old man trying to maintain like 240 pounds of muscle mass.

Which further led to his face puffing up and making him go from looking early 30s in S1 to flat out mid 40s in S2, along with him basically being incapable of putting his arms fully down. It's somewhat sad because he genuinely looks uncomfortable in most S2 scenes.

****ty media expectations of what male athleticism is/looks like strikes again, I guess.

Fingers crossed that Corenswet just looks natural and normal here. The visible massive bulking up in a fairly short window of time is concerning on that front.

I'm okay with him being on the larger side, but I don't want him looking like he came from a Liefeld comic in terms of bulging muscle monster with a 20 pack.

If you're gonna make him big, I'd say go all in on the Tim Sale style bulky look (within reason). Best of both worlds that hopefully doesn't mean Corenswet ruins his health.

There is risk that SuperDave has used the same enhancements as other actors, but he was cast 8 months ago. That is a pretty good amount of time for him to pack on some extra muscle. He is also still a pretty young guy who already had a decent foundation of muscle, so I can seem him believably bulking up quite substantially without chemical assistance, just as Christopher Reeves did.

And when you consider just how skinny he was to begin with as well as just how unflattering that old school spandex was, Reeve's physique was really impressive:

Still probably the best live action superhero physique of all time. Genuinely.

That's what happens when your trainer is literally Darth Vader himself.

Although my favourite will always be Bale in Begins.

Yeah, my mind tends to change just about every other day between Begins Bale and Reeve. I think Reeve slightly has the edge for me as Bale has openly said his diet wasn't particularly healthy for Begins as it was basically just a lot of bulking season style eating after Machinist (which I'm pretty sure is also why he slimmed down quite a lot for TDK/TDKR by comparison). Reeve's is far more inspirational in the sense that he legitimately just got his physique through working out like no tomorrow and just...eating a protein rich diet. It just feels more achieveable, to me (or at least appealingly achieveable)

I don't think Bale's Begins physique in and of itself was un-healthy. It was the yo-yo dieting after The Machinist. He had to pack on as much as possible for the screen test. With TDKR and TDKR, he was still yo-yoing for roles, but he was not pushing himself as hard for medical reasons.

Part of what I really like about the Begins physique, especially during the first act, was that he was not unrealistically shredded like a lot of the Marvel guys are. He was muscular, athletic, and a little soft compared to the typical superhero look. That to me is more realistic and achievable.

I wouldn't mind for Corenswet to go that way, for that Sale and Quietly look.

Yeah, his physique itself wasn't. But it was achieved unhealthily, so with regards to comparing to Reeve's physique, I think that's why I ever so slightly regard Reeve's more highly because that was achieved healthily as far as we're aware. Bale's said in interviews he essentially did bulking season style eating for Begins whereas his diet for TDK/TDKR was far healthier. As I said though, you can ask me tomorrow and I'll probably think Bale's is better given how highly I regard them both. Bale's for the exact reason you're outlining.

I actually think I'd rather see something closer to Pattinson in The Batman, just at a weight that seems healthier, for Corenswet. Emphasis on quite broad shoulders and a bold chest to give him that bulkier silhouette, but not shredded to the point of dehydration.

To Gunn's credit, Chris Pratt has by far one of the most natural physiques of MCU actors on the Guardians movies, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I feel the physiques Hemsworth and Evans had for their Marvel characters fits those characters perfectly. Thor is supposed to look like a god from another realm. Captain America is radically transformed from a 90lb weakling into a superhero by comic book science. If their physiques were "realistically achievable", they wouldn't fit those characters at all.

I want someone to make Youngblood into a movie and film it like Liefeld drew the comic. Every character would be on roids, they would each have leg belts with pouches, and you would never see anyone’s feet.

And? It’s still unhealthy for there to be a standard set that actors do that to themselves as well as perpetuating horrible male beauty standards. It’s an awful thing. Hemsworth especially looks like a ****ing steroid mutant. It is totally irrelevant that it ‘makes sense’ in universe.

This is one of the funniest posts I’ve seen on here in a while. :tearsofjoy:
