TASM 2 and IM2 seem to be making a comeback, could this go the way of the best of 2014 poll and yo-yo between winners?

I hope so myself, I don't think TDW should be winning this even though all if the movies on the poll are flawed and certainly far from the best of the genre.

Watched 300: ROAE again on BD tonight, the picture is stunning, and yeah it certainly doesnt match original, but its still a decent watch and not a bad companion piece to the original, I thought that and Sin City 2 would be getting more votes.

I'd say there's a great number of films left off this list that I'd rate lower than the 3 leaders in the poll, especially the top 2.

Well the reason they are left off this list is that they are more seen as improvements over their predecessors(and sometimes I agree that they are as well). Before Cap2 came out I'd have rated IM2 as the best superhero sequel ever made. Not that I think it's an improvement over the original(it's not) but I'd say all the other ones that DID improve upon the originals did so because those originals weren't so hot to begin with(X1, SM1, etc.).

Dude I'm totally confused by your posts, maybe I've just misread it.
This thread is about sequels that weren't so good, not sequels that were improvements. So, wouldn't we ignore sequels that were improvements
anyway (regardless of what the originals were like ) which would explain them not being on the list ?

Your statement that Iron Man 2 was the best superhero sequel ever, doesn't seem to make sense (again, maybe I'm just not reading you correctly).

Now if you think IM 2 was a great sequel, because that's your opinion, fair enough. But generally the consensus seems to be that it was a bit of a let-down (probably why it's on this thread, because the original was awesome).

Also, by making that statement, you are suggesting that IM 2 is a better sequel than Spider Man 2 - again, if that's your opinion, that's cool, but otherwise the consensus seems to be that Spider Man 2 was a good movie in its own right, and a sequel that improved upon the original - which makes it a better sequel than IM 2.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I can't follow your logic -which might just be me misunderstanding you- could you explain that a little more please ?

Maybe you could give some examples of films that should be on the list that aren't.

What I mean is that movie A can be not as good as it's predecessor and movie B can be better than it's predecessor and yet have movie A still be better than movie B. That's why(with the current exception of Cap2) I rank IM2 well ahead of any other superhero sequel despite personally thinking it's not as good as IM1. It's just that when you start that high even a lesser sequel is still really damn good. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Thanks for the explanation, that is very courteous of you - people often get snippy when you question their ideas, so your good humoured post is much appreciated.

I still can't agree with you on IM 2, because I found it a massive let-down after the brilliance of IM - but that's just personal taste. It's like Favreau struck gold with IM, which is a tie for best superhero movie ever, in my book , with the Dark Knight (and that's saying a lot, as I'm a DC fan, and don't even really like Iron Man, but that film gets everything right, on every level)

In those terms, Dark Knight rises was a somewhat disappointing sequel to Dark Knight, but not on the order of Iron Man 2 following Iron Man. Again, personal taste.

So what films would you add to the list ? For me, the Crow:City of Angels would certainly be a case of great first film and dreadful sequel.

Teenage Mutant ninja turtles (the first one back in 1990) was an okay film
but the sequel "Secret of the Ooze" was beyond awful (it even had Vanilla Ice in it).

Cheers.

Thats fair enough, thats your opinion, I wouldnt put IM2 anywhere near X2, Spiderman 2 or TDK or even Batman Returns for that matter, it was a let down as a sequel to me, but not really a bad movie.

But, at the start of the thread I did state this would contain sequels that generally arent considered as good as their predecessor, which the in general, IM2 isnt, so, I am sticking to my own rules at least :yay:.

I am very surprised Sin City 2 Never got 1 vote, it wasn't as good as the 1st movie no, but of the movies on this poll it was one of the better ones in my view.

I liked the first film very much when I saw it yet I had zero interest in the sequel.

I think the people who saw the sequel were in the main people who liked the first movie though.

^My problem with SC 2 was that at times it was just dull, the 1st movie always stayed entertaining, but I found myself being really bored during some parts of the sequel, and considering it was 20 mins shorter than the 1st movie thats not a good thing.

I did still enjoy it, but it was lacking compared to the 1st, hence its inclusion on this poll.
