I won't write a review of Batman v Superman, because I don't feel like doing that at the moment.

However, I have to say that going in with zero positive expectations, I walked out pretty satisfied. Perhaps because I expected the worst. I actually enjoyed the film, which I never thought I would given that I hate Snyder's films and his style over substance directing.

There are plenty of head scratchers and things I didn't like. Things that are not in line with the characters we know and love. I wouldn't say it's a great film, but certainly not horrible. It was an enjoyable ride. A solid 7/10 for me.

OK so I wrote a review over at the Batman v Superman place, so I might as well paste it here:

I usually hate Zack Snyder's directing - he's most often style over substance. Batman v Superman, while no exception, is however an enjoyable movie to my surprise.

That's not to say it's a great movie. As many others have said before me: it suffers from plenty of flaws. There are times when you think "Is this really in line with this and that character?" and it doesn't feel right all the time. Certain things in this movie make me feel conflicted. On one hand, I feel like Snyder and Warner Bros have painted themselves in a corner. On the other hand however, this movie left me excited for the future of the DCEU. It has the potential to take exciting and creative paths in order to answer some of the questions that this movie leaves you with. It certainly has to. It feels like Warner Bros and DC will have to push themselves hard. I feel like the outcome certainly won't be a copy of the MCU. Let's hope the execution won't disappoint.

Speaking of the future of the DCEU, this movie shares one problem with Iron Man 2 and Age of Ultron. Many times Batman v Superman try to use too many ingredients in one cake, looking too much ahead instead of looking at the now. It feels like Snyder and Warner Bros are in a rush with introducing the DCEU, which makes the execution of it in this particular movie feel stressed and not thought out, also causing some harm to the story that is here and now.

This movie also shows Snyder's over reliance on flashbacks and dream sequences. We saw it in Man of Steel and we see it to the same extent here, except in some cases weirder. Not worse though. I actually enjoyed the dream sequences plenty, but at times they feel either out of place or like cheap exposition. Some of them leave more questions than answers, which definitely is intentional.

Contrary to many others from what it seems, I actually enjoyed this movie. I know that I said that I usually hate Snyder's style over substance directing, but I have to admit that I was constantly impressed by how great this movie looks. This stylised look fits the DCEU like a glove and makes it stand out from the MCU. The action looks amazing. I do have one complaint regarding the action. Like in Man of Steel, the finale is too over the top for my taste. I know, we're talking about gods among men fighting. But the smaller scale action scenes were definitely more enjoyable to me. The grand finale was too much. Other than that, the action was phenomenal.

I also didn't feel like pacing was as bad as many others do. The editing is a little off, admittedly, but I didn't have any problem following the story or most of the characters' motivations.

It's not a very smart movie. It takes some liberties with the characters that I wouldn't take. It loses its mind at the end with some very rushed ideas and decisions. But overall, I enjoyed the ride. Perhaps I'm not as harsh on this film as I would be on Marvel films since I'm more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan. Batman is my second favourite super hero though, and I've grown to like Superman a lot as well. I hate Man of Steel, so I guess this movie did something differently and right to me.

7/10.

I'd have to give BvS a 7/10 myself. There were several problems with the story, and the dream sequences were pointless and annoying, but they got a lot of stuff right. Affleck is certainly now my favorite live action Batman.

 Hey Oz! Glad you enjoyed the movie. And, I appreciated reading your review.

Unfortunately, I had a sour experience with BvS.

ya the editing and pacing was odd at times still i as i said the other day lex was weakest point and i so dont like synder comments about dctv actors and what he did with jimmy oslen.

Long time no see man! :D How are you?

Thank you! :) My scores are seldom set in stone however. I loved Age of Ultron on my first viewing, but have grown to think of it as a disappointing title.

I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy it! :( Even though I liked the film, I can easily see that it's a divisive one. Snyder definitely took some liberties and made some odd creative choices.

Haha, yeah, long time. I'm doing good and it's great that Spidey is in the MCU...very exciting times. How's everything with you?

Nor mine. I've had several scores either go up or down after my initial viewing but I'm not sure it will change with BvS like it did with ASM2. Like ASM2, BvS is a mess of a film, imo on top of how it handles the characters and the negatives are just too strong to ignore. I almost didn't want to post my score in the threads over there just to avoid the whole 'Marvel vs DC' garbage.

Am I a DC fan? Not as much as I like Marvel characters but that doesn't stop me from enjoying quality when I find it nor does it mean that I don't find some/certain DC characters interesting. IMO, BvS isn't a good film. Period.

But I certainly won't hate on someone for liking the film--I'd have preferred the film to be something great though.

I don't know how many of you all follow comics, much less DC, but I for one am pretty excited for the upcoming Rebirth relaunch. I've hardly been touching DC for a while, but there's a lot grabbing my attention coming up.

BvS SUCKS.
And I'm a defender of Man of Steel, BvS still sucks.
I started watching thinking of nothing, and for once, the hatred a movie receives is NOT hyperbole, it's there, and it's genuinely articulate.
I was about to talk about Superman as well so:

Who else is in LOVE with the new suit?
Nice looking suit.

Posted this on the JL forum but i wanted to share this with my fellow Spider-Threaders, i wrote a somewhat draft-script of the Justice League Part One, it's not a professional script because i ain't no writer and it's missing some things (Mera, Gordon and other things), so i'm leaving it here for those who want to read it, but warning, MASSIVE SPOILERS:
[BLACKOUT]The movie itself starts with a heist type mision, a man is taking out people on LexCorps, the guy is blending in the shadows like a ninja stalking everywhere he goes, as he steals the data from the databases of the company and it retrieves it to a man in shadows.
This man in shadows opens the files, this being both the different metahumans that have appeared through out the years, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash, Aquaman and a new recent file for the Green Lantern. But as a separete file there is on their information as these heroes actions had been documented on the last 10 months since the death of Superman, including files that have information on their villains.
Elsewhere, in cascket it hears a sound like it was break open, this cascket being on the city of Metropolis, as people come closely they see that the cascket is now empty, this being the cascket of the Last Son of Krypton. As we now see Clark with the few strenghts left entering the Black Zero who he had during the 2 years between MOS and BvS turned into his ''home away from home'', obviously the Fortress of Solitude, as he enters a regeneration chamber that allows him to rejuvenate and absorb the energy from the sun. As it ends, Clark leaves the Fortress and travels as a drifter circa the location of Alaska.
During the 10 months, Bruce and Diana had been trying on recluting the members of the JL, these being Victor and Elias Stone plus Barry Allen, as Bruce aproaches Victor and Elias on both helping his son with WayneTech gadgets and equipment and Diana pursuing Barry as to allow him to help more people that he could on solo, at the same time this man on the shadows has been looking on the villains files, these being villains like El Hechicero del Clima, Marco Mardon, Cersi Colchis, belived to be the greek godess Circe, mercenary, gun for hire and pirate Black Manta, the Black Hand enemy of the Green Lantern, Killer Croc villain of Batman.
To this group of villains, they believe they had been recruited by Alexander Luthor, the guy who created that monster 10 months ago and caused the death of Superman, but as they suddenly realize, the man in the shadow starts a video on a screen, although we don't see it, you can see in the faces of these diferent criminals what clearly happened, Alexander Luthor is dead. As the man reveals himself, we see in him a very nice, clearly costy Armani suit, cuflings and a golden watch, well put tie and a clearly bald dome on his head, it's Luthor, Luthor Sr. Lex had sent some men to kill his own son, making it look as he was killed by the inmates, Luthor is so powerful himself that he could have work in the shadows not only to cause the events of the death of Alexander, but also to had made it look like he died time ago, he had recruited this villains to takedown the JL, basically Luthor believes that these gods among men, well to put it simply: He believes himself as the greatest humanitarian, the guy who will save the world but he also doesn't believe on this ''superheroes'', basically although not that noticible, you can see that he thinks they are stealing his thunder, and Lex ain't having that.
But continuing, Luthor has assembled the ''Legion of Doom'' or the Secret Society of Supervillains, and the League is also forming their team, but what about the big blue boy scout?
Well, Clark is currently as previously said, on Alaska (or any other place really), he has been a drifter for some days and he has been taken in by a kind man, this man clearly recognizes Clark, although he has a beard, he knows that Superman himself is on his home.
Clark after the events of BvS is desilusoned, he belived on trying to save everyone yet after the media causing doubt on him, the battle against the Batman and Luthor kidnapping his mother, he know thinks one thing: Superman and Clark Kent did die 10 months ago.
The kind man gives Clark some food as they see the news talking about the increase on superheroic figures having appeared on the recent months, Clark doesn't believe anymore in those things, but the man does, he believes that someone is able to stand for something better, to fight for truth and justice and to inspire people to be better.
But back to the League, they had already recruited Flash and Cyborg, as Batman is stalking the night and fighting some criminals, he is approached by a certain Lantern, as he is currently on Coast City, as Hal Jordan enters the scene. Bruce and Hal have a bit of banter, similar to something like Falcon and Cap in WS but less friendly and more like two guys who know about each other but not really now personally, as havoc starts.
Bruce calls the other members of the League, as they go to the havoc, there is the Legion of Doom causing it, everyone fights their own respective villain, GL v Black Hand as they battle supposed magic vs alien ring constructs, Circe v Wonder Woman, two figures from Greek backgrounds, Weather Wizard v Flash as they battle basically creating different things like thunder or blizzard vs being able to run at the speed of sound, Cyborg fighting against Black Manta, and then suddenly a familiar aquatic beign appears, as Aquaman joins the battle, pursuing Manta due to crimes comitted against Atlantis, Cyborg is taken down due to a virus created from Luthor known as G.R.I.D, causing Vic not being able to control his technological parts and to basically be under Luthor's control.
Clark is seeing the whole battle happen on TV with the man who took him in, although doubting to enter the battle himself, the man brings him something, telling him to stand up for what he thinks he is right, giving him a familiar blue suit, although this being more cloth like, the crest having been altered to this more stylized look and given a belt rather than different colored parts on his suit, his cape now having the El Crest on it sporting a yellow bright color, as Clark leaves the town and goes to the now evacuating Coast City.
As we return to the battle, the League is currently losing, basically the classic trope of a superhero team up, the villains working better at the start than the heroes, as they attack different members at a time, the battle causing damage arround the not as much evacuated city, as some group of civilians are about to get crushed by rubbel, we hear a sonic boom and a very familiar theme, we see a blue blur moving not only the rubble but also the group of people, as the League sees.
The group of people thank the familiar man, but now it's clear that this isn't a work for Batman and Friends to help the people and take down the Legion of Doom, this, is a work for Superman.
Part of the League has been captured, this being Cyborg, Elias Stone as he was kidnapped by some of Luthor's men during the battle, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern to surprise of many, the only ones being left are Bruce, Barry and Clark. Supes wants to go and take them down and to save the members of the League, as also Barry, but Batman stops them saying that he has planted a tracking device on one of them to find their lair and secret location.
The continuing part of the middle act and start of third act consist on both Luthor torturing the members of the League and intimidating the members of the Legion of Doom, and Batman, Flash and Superman interacting as they talk about Superman sudden return, their morals and differences and as they try to find the League.
Eventually they do find the members of the Justice League, as it ends on a final battle which is taken to the city, but we see every member of the League fighting against another member of the Legion of Doom, Wonder Woman fighting against Weather Wizard, Circe vs Flash, Batman taking out the Black Hand, Aquaman taking the battle of Croc to the sewers, Green Lantern taking out Manta as technology and martial arts fighting battle against constructs and imagination, Superman trying to deactivate with Silas the G.R.I.D program while he tries to incapacitate Victor
One thing that i want to keep on clear is that the battle aren't just constant punch, swords, water or constructs but rather the different members of the League taking out inteligently the members of the Legion of Doom, Wonder Woman finding a way to counter attack the weather attacks, GL banthering against Black Manta enough to distract him and take him out, Aquaman using water kinesis and using part of Croc's animal side to defeat him, Batman planning out how to take down Black Hand and to avoid his magic, Arkham style, Flash using his talking skills as to distract Circe, and another thing: every member of the League is saving people while the fight is happening, they are superheroes, that's what they do, save lives.
At the end, the League obviously wins, but certain dome head is missing arround, and the one who is going after him is Big Blue himself. Supes finds Luthor, and we get a classic scene between them, Luthor is powerful enough so that no one can now that he orchestrated this, as much as Superman wants to, he can't punch his way out of this, and he won't, basically leading into future stories with a Luthor who everyone believes he has returned from the dead after his son was killed and is taking back the company, placing a story on how he was treated on a disease and that's why he wasn't arround.
The story book ends as we see two things, the start of a Wayne Enterprises conference and the League talking with everyone in costume except for Bruce as he explains has something so that it looks like Batman is there at the same time (simple throw away line), the group discusses as Superman has changed his costume for one made in the Black Zero, although it has some traits of the one he used during the battle, this being clearly lighter and less alien looking, plus having the modified crest the other one had, Aquaman is now using a more formal wear and shorter trimer hair, Cyborg's body has been changed from this symbiote looking metal body to the more defined one. As the movie ends, it is discussed how they are going to name themselves, as the conference starts and they discuss names, Barry says: ''What, like some bunch of Superfriends?'', Superman ending the movie and the conference hosted by Bruce Wayne claiming them as: ''More like a...Justice League''[/BLACKOUT]

I don't like neither MOS nor BvS. I really love Nolan's first two Batman movies, watchmen and Batman returns. I'm a big batman fan and i really wanted to like this movie even knowing what hit or miss Snyder is.

That said, it's a mess. Not a Fantastic 4 mess but a mess nevertheless. Throws so many balls in the air and catches very few of them. If the movie had focused on the different views of America's greatest icons and presented valid reasons for their methods and conflict this would be a great film. Instead we got two brooding killers (harsh but you know it's true) that hate each other just to advance the plot and reach to point B where Luthor does it's evil plan. No groundwork, no payoff and no vision for what the film should be.

5.5/10 from me.

So I mentioned this over general thread. But wanted to bring it up over here. That kid Matt lintz who tested for peter before tom scored the role. He is going to be at a show near my area at end of the month. So would any one want me to ask him anything about testing for spidey.

Couple years ago I ordered all the TSSM episodes on DVD from Amazon. Since, it has released in blu-ray. Finally ordered that and should be getting it Wednesday. This should hold me over until Civil War haha.

Well done! I got my copy back in February. :woot:

Sweet. Can't wait. Those creators knew what they were doing. Such a shame it got cancelled. USM cartoon blows in comparison.

Just watched the Vulture episode of USM last night before I went to bed. It was really, really bad. Basically it was a depressed, mopey, significantly younger version of Adrian Toomes and it just didn't work.

I will say however that some of the ideas/concepts USM presents make me want to see 'em adapted in better hands, 'cause while it can be argued some story/character changes is not _____, they certainly interest me.

On Netflix right? I've seen it like three times because I keep turning it off 5 mins in, and want o believe it gets better but it doesn't. I think Spidey calls him "emo" in it, too. Real bad.

And I agree. There's that Carnage episode in S1 or S2, I forget, but I enjoyed it for the most part.

Yeah, I tried watching the Vulture episode recently after the news he'd probably be in the solo film. Terrible. I wouldn't even consider that the Vulture

I watched every episode of USM from the first two seasons and then some episodes in the third season...it was my attempt at giving the show a fair shot. It was painful. Like truly difficult to make my way through all those episodes. I couldn't even watch them back to back as most of the time I had to pause and return several times during one episode.

I quite liked the first episode or two but it went so downhill that the hill may as well have been a cliff. Definitely not a fan

Anybody here Mondo fans? Into the whole contemporary pop art revolution? Bottleneck, Hero Complex, and Gallery 1988? All that stuff.

The Marvel movies usually get a lot of art done for their movies but Spider-Man never got any good art out of it with the recent movies. But now that he's in the MCU, he's bound to get some Mondo treatment or something of the like. Can't wait!

For anyone who wants to see cool Marvel art:
GreyMatterArt.com

And the fact that Spider-Man has to pause the story in each episode to either recap or explain what's already been established gets old really quick and becomes obnoxious.

I get that kids may not be able to get everything if they haven't watched every episode from start to finish but come on.

Spectacular managed to have recurring characters and not have to set aside five minutes to explain what was happening. It's astounding the drop in quality

I was severely disappointed with Batman vs. Superman. I saw it recently hoping my opinion would be different than the critics, but it wasn't :/ Huge fan of the Justice League and its characters due to the animated series growing up, so this really sucked for me. I just hope the Flash movie isn't a wreck. Hes my second favorite hero after Spidey. If anything, at least I love the show

^ Which is back on tonight!!! Geez, what a show. So good. The Flash and Daredevil are the best adapted comic book TV shows out there.
