Ozy's Accent

Oh wow I havent seen that clip first time yaaaaaaaa, on another hand my feelings about Matthew Goode being a poor choice for Ozy have been confirmed. I know I have only seen a few minutes worth of clips but to me he is not Ozymandias.

I'm trying to avoid actual clips from the movie and I have been successful so far. But I've seen a ton of pics, and I never had a good feeling about Goode as Ozy. I'd obviously have to watch the film to give my verdict on him but I don't like what I have seen so far. As far the rest of the cast, I like.

You really think that? It seemed obvious to me from the get go...

In the book it seems that way to you? I'm talking about in the movie it will, to people not aquatinted with the book.

The book left me guessing till about the last few chapters when everything started coming together. If you knew Ozy was the villain the first time he pops up in the book, then I applaud your detective skills sir. Bravo.

Same here his the only one I flat out hate, I was a bit unsure about the guy playing Dan but have come round in regards to the actor. Sadly I cant say the same for Matthew Goode.

I thought that showing him with such an innocent symbol (his action figures), staring out at a thunderstorm in contemplation was a give-away. From then it was a case of "What's he going to do?" for me.

Ah, I see. I figured that was just to set the tone. Raining and sad, then Rorschach leaves after playing with the ozy figures and leaves one all twisted and bent out of shape. i thought this was just to say Ozy is worried even all his money and fame can't keep him safe.

well you'll be surprised because after Rorschach he was the best performance. Dan does a very well job also. Laurie not so much.

Oh snap how could I forget, cant say I am surprised I wasnt expecting much from that actress.

You've seen it?

I love it. It gives him the slight "cultured air" he needs, but it doesn't exactly make him sound stuck up. He's almost like a quiet rockstar.

Yes, Ozymandias in the comic is so innocent and trustworthy and genial and...

Oh.

Some of you need to actually READ the comic. Read the words and look at the pictures at the same time. Allow the words to mix with the images.

It's no wonder some of you think Veidt's all wrong in the movie if you have the wrong impression of the man from the comic to begin with.

I dont think Laurie was poorly acted. I think it is what it is...she's not insanely different from the novel, I think shes more likable actually..In my opinion. I think everyone should wait and give her a fair shot to see what they think about the acting. What didn't you like about her?

Everyone stepped it up and she didnt. Her acting was mediocre. Yes it works but during the mars scene her mediocre acting brings down Manhattan. She can fight and be naked though. Young Kovacs was good, Sally was good, Big Figure was good, the veidt assassin was good. Those minor roles stepped it up why couldnt she? I would have rather liked Osterman's gf (which her name i cant recall at the moment) to play Laurie better.

just my opnion i guess. just didnt like how she brought down manhattan.

Laurie is the emotional center of WATCHMEN. That's all I want. And I don't need an Oscar caliber performance for that. All I care about is that Laurie feels real...like she's really in these weird-ass situations, unsure to handle them, upset about them, I don't care if she's uber-dramatic or if she hits every emotional beat dead on every time, because in real life, people don't. I just want her to be real. So far she has been, she's been the most "real" of the cast.

then I honestly don't think youll be disappointed.

I don't think The Guard could possibly be dissapointed with this film.

That's good to hear. Some people were worried that she was going to be the weak link in the cast after watching her clip with Laurie. Is her acting as OTT in the rest of the movie as it was in that scene?

I wouldnt go as far as to say OTT but she plays her role. In the novel Sally was a bit OTT, in a sense bitter and thats exactly what you see in the film.

yeah people need to stop *****ing about goode everyone i hear say he is damn good in the movie

yea we dont need anymore threads or arguments. If Rorschach wasnt in the film than he would be the best role.

Nothing to do with his actual acting or the accent, but I just wish Goode would have physically prepared for the role more, get some more muscle. Maybe he did though, and I just can't tell. Christian Bale gained muscle for TDK though, obvious without his shirt on, but still looked skinny otherwise. Eh, who knows.

Matthew is just a naturally thin guy, but at 6'2 I can definitely picture him thrashing some people. Plus he left to film watchmen right after filming Brideshead Revisted, which left very little time to pack on the muscle.

I saw it, I don't have a problem with anyone's acting. I explained some of my favorite things about each character and their moments in the critics thread. Everyone has some very strong moments. I'd say that adrian and laurie are very much similar to their on screen versions.
