i dont see this movie being a bomb you have giant robots vs monsters! If this movie doesn't do well, we'll also never see a big budget Guillermo Del Torro movie again for a long time.
Andrew Stanton (a 2 time academy award winner with an average box office gross of $700 M WW) will forever going to have difficulty getting financed for big budget live action films post John Carter. If Guillermo Del Torro has a similar bomb, it doesn't matter how much fanboy cred he has, he won't be financed for a long ass time.
Studio is spending a lot of money on Del Toro here on a risky project. Understandable they could call rank and demand 3D here.
Still, the 3D gimmick still sucks no matter how much filmmakers claim they are doing it right and spending the money and preparing to do it the right way.
^To be honest going the Bay way actually would be the way to sell it. I know we don't WANT to, but that puts asses in seats.
When it comes to the general public, you have to know how to 'play' them because they're easy to please. Main reason: They lack imagination. Most people do, and if the biggest games out there is Call of Duty. But if you put something more imaginative or different, it is looked upon as being weird or bad. But sometimes quality does fall through that stereotype, like Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, or Bioshock.
No, the main reason they're "easily pleased" is because they're not overly obsessed fanboys who spend most of their lives on message boards nitpicking films to death. The GA actually have lives and jobs and bills and kids. Dealing with all of that I don't blame them for wanting to escape for a few hours with some mindless and fun entertainment.
I think it's hilarious how many internet dwellers talk **** about the GA. Yes there are morons out there but not every member of the GA are idiots.
I don't disagree with you because I am paint in broad strokes but no need to be THAT aggressive. I don't think I was talking nonsensical crap either. And it's not like I don't get POed about internet dwellers who can be as guilty but just at the other end of the spectrum.
I'm curious about the face of the robot on the poster: Are his eyes the sunglasses-like visors or the two slits.
I'll still see it in 2D anyways, I'm not a fan of 3D, but I do hope they do a good job with it.
I just figure December, with The Hobbit, it will be a huge blockbuster, and putting Pacific Rim on it will get the buzz going.
