Paul Dano is Edward Nashton aka "The Riddler"

Not sure why there is such angst and anti attitude against having a multi-capable, skilled European talent who can write music, sing and who has acting experience to be cast in a large budget picture to help boost its profile.

The way I look at it is this, and this is not intended to critique the past, but with Justice League bombing and the lackluster reception of BVS, Batman's popularity and reputation have taken a serious hit. To really help revive it and rejuvenate its muscle, spirit and luster, sometimes something or someone totally fresh and bold is needed to help jump-start the curiosity into this bankable property in today's minimally attentive society. Bringing in someone like Ed Sheeran in a multi-faceted way, to take on a major acting role, write a mega song (Batdance helped create such a euphoria around the original Batman), but also do something unique and even perform it if only briefly in the movie. It would be something unique, individual and if done right, would be such a high caliber point in comic film history. The media would be all over it and it would really help boost the property to help attract so many new fans to help sustain it going forward.

I still remember Batman singing in one JL episode which was hilarious and so well-done and comedic; something unique like this could be done by Ed Sheeran as Penguin or another villainous character in the movie. Look I'm glad Paul Dano got cast, he's a pretty talented actor but Reeves missed something here I feel by not looking beyond actors and assessing multi-talented stars.

Personally speaking, it has nothing to do with Ed Sheeran and everything to do with Paul Dano. Like this thread should be, in theory.

You’re trolling right?
Are you the same guy that was running the Miles Teller stuff into the ground?

Moving on, let's get back to the spirit of this thread: Paul Dano is a terrific actor and he's going to crush it as the Riddler. Dude was in his early 20's when he starred in There Will Be Blood and went toe-to-toe with the one and only Daniel Day Lewis.

I can't wait to see what he brings to the table as Riddler.

What are you on about. Miles Teller is not talented and is apparently horrible to work with on set. He also called Joaquin Phoenix “Joaq”... unacceptable

but anyways back to Dano since that is this thread, I really hope they show him to be more of a tech wizard who uses technology really successfully against Bruce

I am hoping for a Ledger-esque portrayal by Dano, in the sense that it elevates the character and the film, while garnering alot of attention. Frank Gorshin set up this character on-screen, initially, and I have been waiting a long time to have Riddler done right in a film. I wouldn't even mind seeing Dano work traces of Gorshin's movement and, even, laugh into his version of the character. I can't think of anyone better to take this character on than Paul Dano. I have always liked him as an actor.

1. Miles Teller is an actual actor, which Ed Sheeran is not....Ed Sheeran is a musician who's made a couple acting cameos and such, in which he showed he shouldn't quit his day job.

2. He's not the only person to call Joaquin Phoenix "Joaq". From the sound of things, his friends and such call him "Joaq" like you might call someone named Edward "Ed".

I’m sure it’s beeping actively discussed what’s with the last name change? Lol

You sound upset which I didn’t mean to cause. I was just raising a point that having an actor and singer like Ed Sheeran would a really interesting spin on a villain and the material so far. From what we are hearing, we’re going to get a verrry different kind of Batman in terms of approach, cast, and tone. Pattinson describing it as frightening, rReeves with a hard noir feel. So I thought it would be really cool to try to emulate the zeitgeist from 89 by having a tremendously talented pop star and actor who could also be in the movie and do a guest role or major villainous role

that’ll be my last post about this on this thread since I don’t want to detract from how awesome Dano will be as Riddler. I’m really really pumped to see what his approach will be. Will he be more calm and cold or slightly hammy but darkly evil. He may even be more sympathetic

I was nervous about the casting of The Riddler because of all of the utterly atrocious suggestions, but I am loving the idea of Paul as Riddler. He has been constantly growing as an actor and I believe that he is going to do one hell of a job. Can't wait to see how he looks. Bring on the cold calculating redheaded death trap killer!

Dano was a favourite around here about 10 years ago when we thought it was a possibility that Riddler could be in TDK sequel. It’s like he was born to play this role. It was always in the cards, just a matter of when. I feel like now is even better because of the added experience Paul has as an actor (and the right world where a Batman director is a fan of the character). Dream casting IMO.

There are many musicians that have crossed over into film and become great actors.

That said, Ed Sheeran should never be allowed to act. Or sing. God, will he just ****ing go away already?

With Dano cast first and Seth Rogen bandied about as an actual option for Penguin, I'm thinking between the two, Riddler's set to be the much more prominent villain in the story. It wouldn't be the worst thing, but I hope I'm wrong.
