Percy Jackson and The Olympians : The Lightning Thief

the changes in the movie were TERRIBLE. if they were worried about pacing they could have shown large sections of the movie as a montage. the movie comes across as extremely hollow with absolutely NO character showing any growth or character developement. there is no character journey for anyone they all start and end the movie essentially the same person. a epic fail

At least, I got to see the Clash of the Titans Trailer. It looks so badass. I can't wait to see Medusa in it in action. The Medusa in this Movie was completely disappointing.

the movie is eye rollingly ridiculous at times. seriously, who didn't think the second you saw that generic woman in the emporium that she was a star trek red shirt just so they could show the power of medusa :whatever:

well I will look forward to CotT and try and push this horrible movie far from my mind.

Unless im taking my son,i usually stay away from PG rated films in theatres. Everything about PG films is toned down, the action, the language. Then the awful kiddie flick trailers that are attached to PG films, are cringe worthy(three talking animal films are coming soon, and each one looks terrible,COME ON HOLLYWOOD!!!!!)
The aforementioned about the contents of PG films is not the case with Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
A good blend of,Clash Of The Titans,Chronicles Of Narnia and The Wizard of Oz
The three leads in the film were likeable ,Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) Son Of Poseidonhis best friend Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) though Jackson seemed to be channeling Eddie Griffin,at times, and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), a daughter of Athena. Two sexy cameos from Uma Thurman(Medusa) and Rosario Dawson (Persephone) werent bad either
The special effects really help the movie along, the money is up there on the screen, hopefully FOX will throw this much money at the next X-Men flick.
I would have liked more of a back story on Percy's parents, and not enough is done with the God's of Olympus, they were mere bookends in the film. There is some strain in the film, when it tries to mix in modern themes, then ancient themes, then back to modern themes.
I have always loved greek mythology so it's one of the main reasons i enjoyed the film
Scale of 1-10 an 8

And it also annoyed me how Percy gets beaten by Annabeth inititally in their first fight but then he puts his hand in the water and he becomes a total master at fighting.

Much mroe enjoyable than Twilight but couldve been made better.

That actually happened in the book. Not with Annabeth, but with a few different fights.

what annoys me about movies like PJ is they are made specfically for children, totally watered down and dumb as if kids are stupid or something.
the best movies can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike and treat both with intelligence, a perfect example is the incredibles.

I also didnt get how there was conveniatly(sp) 3 pearls in the US, one for each of them. It wouldve been better (imo) if there were multiple pearls around hte US (unless Persphone just has 3 visitors from the US) and they just went after the closest three not thinking about how it can only transport one person thus having to leave someone back.

and did they fuel their entire trip around the US on the gold? And who would leave keys in a rotating show car?

This movie looks like it was micro-managed to death.

Also, why does Grover keep using the crutches for the whole movie?

He walks differently when he's not on them. He stopped using them after they escaped the Lotus Casino.

He appears to walk normally when he's not wearing them at the camp. And then he even grabs them when they are trying to ditch the Lotus club when he made a point of ditching them while he was inside the club.

You can see how he walks weird when they are in Nashville dragging the security guards.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. It was not nearly as bad as some of you guys were making it out to be. I was expecting a **** train wreck and got a enjoyable movie.

I think the crutches also double as Grover's weapon, he did fight with them a lot...

I agree with Justabill^ I went to see Wolfman, but totally didn't google the time, and arrived only to find it started much later so we saw "PJatO:tLT" and wasn't dissapoined, it was entertaining

Yeah some things needed work, such as certain dramatic scenes, but overall the film was entertaining... and generally faithful with the book... I actually get why some of the changes from the book were made, such as the non-inclusion of Kronos or Percy fighting Ares

I rather liked it and so did the wife.
Could have been more faithful but... was still great anyhow.

I think its entirely possible to enjoy the movie if you haven't read the book, if you have read the book I don't see how anyone could it enjoy it there are simply too many changes.

I never read the book and I found the movie execrable and very poorly made.

Predictable, phoned in, and everything was telegraphed.

Thanks for speaking in such certainty for everyone that read the books.

its just called "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" in my country...

Re: Scene after the credits

Did anyone see it? If so, would you mind providing a description? Did it involve Luke?

Cheers.

I admit that the Movie was funny and that me and my friends laughed several times. But ultimately I thought it was a very mediocre take on greek mythology. I also didn't know that Sean Bean was in the Movie, but the moment I saw him as Zeus, I naturally expected a bit more from the Movie than I ultimately got.

It involves Gabe, Percy's step father

Here ya go:
Gabe comes home and Percy's mom tells him off then leaves. Gabe goes to get a beer and the fridge is locked with a note saying not to open it.

He breaks the lock anyhow and it ends with a closeup of Medusa's head on the shelf inside. Oh and once the credits restart instead of music you hear the 'turning into stone effect"

I liked it was not perfect mind you but i enjoyed it more then Wolfman. I know not same thing but a few times looked at my watch during Wolfman but never once Percy Jackson for i guess Fantasy is my area of entrist and i am a Dracula monster guy more so Then Wolfman.

No question this movie had its problems as its no Harry Potter but i liked the Kids in this movie for some reason.
I however think Zeus needed Zapped with his own bolt for seemed like a A$$.
7.5/10

I have to agree. It got progressively worse as the movie went on. They didn't even leave in a major plot point that if they decide to make a sequel is in the other books.

What's worse it looks like they cut scenes from the movie and made more changes. One of the previews there's a scene of Percy, by himself, going into the empire state building, asking for a special key, the reluctant doorman giving it to him and then he goes up to mount Olympus. That's how it happened in the book, but that whole scene was cut.

The other thing is there's a gaping plot hole because they didn't explain why Zeus thinks Percy is the lightning thief, in the book this is explained.

I didn't dislike the movie, but it certainly was hard to enjoy with all the changes.
