I don't think its the Autobot symbol...because they'd have to do the same thing for Megatron and the Decepticon symbol doesn't look anything like him. And why would the Autobot symbol be modeled after Optimus when he isn't the oldest Autobot? Its been stated that Ironhide is older than him.
And its no desperate need to believe that Bay is making Optimus look like him. Its just a wierd coincidence...its fun to point out. Why try and turn it into some big debate?
Because, compare the two:

And the above picture.
It's clearly Optimus' eye and the producers have even said so in the past if anyone wants to look it up.
Just because in the comic the Autobrand was based on the first Autobot, doesn't mean Optimus is the oldest Autobot.
Or to put it another way, rather than it typifying the oldest autobot, why wouldn't it typify the most noblest of them all instead? The one being that truly sums up what it means to be an Autobot, instead of some throwaway character that no one ultimately cares about?
Again, why the sudden resurgence of "it's G1!" when for the last few months detractors have been saying it has absolutely nothing in common with G1.
You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Oh, as far as the Decepticon symbol?

If you still think Bay has that much pull (over Spielberg AND Hasbro) I can't help you.
I can understand some people hating Bay, but let's stick to reality. It's borderline obsession by some detractors when it comes to Bay.
Anyways, just pointing it out since this was debated pretty heavily when the eye teaser poster first came out. Not looking to turn it into a big debate or anything, just trying to keep things from becoming the next JFK conspiracy
